At least one Republican presidential contender isn’t running from his past.

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour was proud of his past as a “lobbyist, a politician and a lawyer” when he was asked about it Sunday.

“You said last year, you’re the governor of a poor state, you have a distinct drawl, and you have been — were a big time Washington lobbyist for a decade, Fox News’ Chris Wallace noted. “You said, some people would consider those handicaps for running for president, you don’t. Why not?”

“I’m a lobbyist,” Barbour admitted. “The guy who gets elected or the lady who gets elected will immediately be lobbying. They’ll be advocating to the Congress, they’ll be lobbying our allies and our adversaries overseas, they’ll be asking the business community, the labor unions. You just — that’s just what presidents do for a living.”

“You were one of Washington’s biggest most successful lobbyists for more than a decade,” Wallace pressed.

“Let me just make this very plain. I’m a lobbyist, a politician and a lawyer,” Barbour replied. “That’s the trifecta and I’m willing to have my record in front of everybody.”

If Barbour does decide to try for the Republican presidential nomination, he may have an uphill battle. Only 3 percent gave the Mississippi governor their vote in the this weekend’s Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll.

It’s a trifecta ! His bona fides scream “run for the hills, if ya know whats good for ya…”

A lobbyist, a politician and a lawyer: three very good reasons not to vote for this snake. And three reasons he will be a formidable candidate. If you’ve ever seen this guy interviewed, you’ll walk away very impressed at his verbal facility and his seeming reasonableness. (You may also have a bottle of snake oil in your pocket if you are inclined to buy his claptrap.)

  • Anonymous

And he brags about it too! He’s riddled with more “handicaps” in his bid for the presidency that we’re aware of, and probably loads more that we don’t even know about – yet. His “trifecta” is more of a “de-fecta.”

He’d better serve the nation by going back to Yazoo City and settling down into a swamp, or something.

The chances are that Ol’ Haley-Bob ain’t gonna be ‘lected president:

    (1) he will likely decline to respect the AMERICAN flag, since he obviously prefers the traitorous Stars-and-Bars, the flag of the Treasonous Confederate Christian Slaveholding Republic, and

    (2) even today, most Americans will decline to vote for a presidential candidate who sounds like Foghorn Leghorn

Well, the facts are: lobbyist, politician and liar.

He will soon go away to join the loyal dead of his 1859- 1865 failed racist Confederacy coup which he and so many other Rethuglicans today long to revive.

So long, bye, good riddens and if there is reincarnation, may you return to earth as fully what you were in this life, a rat.

In Haley, you have everything despicable about D.C. wrapped up in a double-chinned sack of Mississippi crap.

In Obama, you have a worthless clone trying desperately to emulate Haley.

  • http://www.facebook.com/derek.spisak Derek Spisak

All I know, as a Mississippian, Haley highjacked $500 Million in grant money meant for rebuilding housing damaged and destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and diverted it to a port that IMPORTS bananas.

To date, they spent $27 Million in “studies” and nothing has been spent to help the victims of Katrina.

After a lawsuit, the state has agreed to re-allocating $132 Million to the housing needs of the victims and has yet to be doled out.

Ironically, Senator Wicker (a Republican) stood in front of Hancock Bank on Friday to spout that the GOzone funds have been spent wisely and are important... to renovating 3 damaged BANKS!

I would think that big government would be intruding and that the Republican Senator and Republican Governor would find this an issue with government interference. Why isn’t the bank insured? Or are they fully insured and are just “milking the teats?” (per Alan Simpson).

These guys deserve to be ignored… lying bunch of lying liars.

At least all the funds should be re-directed to helping the innocent victims of the storm and the government’s response which has only lined the pockets of those least in need.

One might also ask whose friends got to spend the BP “marketing” money as well that was held closely by the governor lest it be “frittered away” by the Gulf Coast tourism agencies.

In the vernacular of the internet “OMFG!” I was going to say I can’t believe he said that, but in retrospect I guess I can. At sometime in the near future when you look up “douchebag” in the dictionary you’ll probably see Haley Barbour’s picture.

I’d rather be a little more objective in my comments, but it’s hard to be objective against pure demagogic bullshit.
