An Iraqi defector, codenamed Curveball, who allegedly helped convince the Bush administration that Saddam Hussein had a secret stash of biological and chemical weapons, has admitted for the first time that he made it all up.

Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi told The Guardian that he invented the stories to help topple Saddam Hussein, but was shocked when the US used tales as an excuse to go to war.

“I did that for a number of reasons,” he said. “Firstly because of my people, the Iraqi people. The old regime was a dictatorship and that caused a lot of problems for our country.”

“I had to do something for my country. So I did this and I am satisfied, because there is no dictator in Iraq any more.”

“Maybe I was right, maybe I was not right,” Janabi observed. “They gave me this chance. I had the chance to fabricate something to topple the regime. I and my sons are proud of that and we are proud that we were the reason to give Iraq the margin of democracy.”

It was just over eight years ago that US Secretary of State Colin Powell took Janabi’s claims to the United Nations.

The news also follows the release of former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s admission that there were no weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq before the war.

Tyler Drumheller, the former CIA chief in Europe, told The Guardian that Janabi’s confession was “fascinating.”

“I think there are still a number of people who still thought there was something in that. Even now,” he said.

Janabi’s lies were key features of arguments made by the Bush administration, namely that Hussein was moving biochemical weapons from place to place with mobile labs. He falsely claimed that he worked on a team that assembled the weapons, and that Iraq had plans to build even more mobile weapons labs.

On Feb. 5, 2003, Powell repeated the claims in a speech to the United Nations, in which he justified the invasion of Iraq.

Powell later described his speech to the United Nations as a “blot” on his career.

“I’m the one who presented it on behalf of the United States to the world, and [it] will always be a part of my record,” he said. “It was painful. It’s painful now.”

And when will the Dumbya/Cheney Regime ever admit they lied?

Never, because they’re lying scumbag war criminals and cowards.

  • Anonymous

Powell knew it was a lie … when he propagated it.

His attempts at “contrition” fail to acknowledge that.

… how come people LOVE to give him a “pass” on this ? Anybody know ?

  • gypski®

So, when will we ever bring our lying politicians to justice. They knew he was lying and should pay the price for what they have done to the countries and their peoples based on a pack of lies..

  • Dirk

A “blot” on Powell’s career? More like a foul, revolting shit stain.

  • Anonymous

How convenient, just on the heels of Rumsfeld’s and Bush’s books coming out, both trying to revise history and paint themselves in a good light.

If Curveball didn’t lie for the Bush admin they would have found somebody else to. They didn’t care if it was true or not. They just wanted their war.

Half a million dead people in Iraq for no reason because of the Bush admin. Thats one of the great evil acts in all of history. Do you see republicans taking “responsibility” for that after they beat that word into the ground to demonize so many groups. Do you see our corporate media reporting on that as one of the worlds great sins ?

Half a million dead people FOR NO FUCKING REASON. America is pure evil.

i recently attended a dinner party where guests i didn’t know asked me what i did for a living. i told them i was a lion tamer. made up some shit about the lion taming business (inside stuff like dental hygiene, do’s and don’ts of training protocol, etc.) I told them they couldn’t see my act cuz the circus was always moving, much like mobile laboratories in iraq.

if you believe the government believed curveball and his wmd story, when even he doesn’t believe it, i would like to continue telling you about my lion taming days. bush, cheney, rumsfeld, powell, rice, et al should be in jail for war crimes and war profiteering. at least bush can’t travel to europe for fear of torture prosecution.

Powell was just part of George Bush, Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld drive to invade Iraq. Not for the a better life for the citizens of Iraq, but for their own political agenda. Whatever the agenda was, Wolf and Cheney wanted the Oil, Bush, revenge because Saddam tried to kill his Father, Rumsfeld because he felt betrayed, Rums/US sold Saddam the gas, used to kill the Turks. The Bottom line, They are responsible for checking out lies, leaks and should have never committed the USA to invade Iraq, They need to held accountable. They knew the information was false and wanted WAR in IRAQ

It’s interesting to me how easy it is to see through claims and guys like this, even WHILE they are making headlines. Judith Miller’s stories were way too seamless, too nicely rounded off, like fiction, and we could see when they were being published that they were phonies. Real news doesn’t have nice neat Aristotelian beginnings, middles and ends. Same for the story of “Jessica Lynch” and the lying reports by Jayson Blair.

We need much better reading COMPREHENSION and critical reading to get us through nowadays, when there are no longer any standards for reporting and none among certain politicians. The right wing, for example, was up in arms, and the LA Times criticized Anderson Cooper for saying that Mubarak lied (he did). But the mainstream media has given an absolutely free pass to anyone who calls Obama a ‘liar’ (Joe Wilson, remember him?) while trying to undermine the other Joe Wilson who called it like it was, the former ambassador who figured out that there was no Niger connection and no ‘yellow cake.’

And the ironies include a number of legal precedents we, the USA, set at Nuremberg that directly call going to war based on lies a huge war crime, the ultimate war crime. Here is a quote from one of the judges at Nuremberg. The first quote shows the hypocrisy and crimes of torture by Dumbya and his clowns.

    Judge Robert H. Jackson:

“If certain acts of violation of treaties are crimes, they are crimes
whether the United States does them or whether Germany does them, and we
are not prepared to lay down a rule of criminal conduct against others
which we would not be willing to have invoked against us.”

“To initiate a war of aggression …is not only an international war
crime, it is the supreme international crime differing only from other
war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the
    whole”.

Well thats how cons will probably use the story. I can hear it now.

“Oh you see it’s not our fault. Curveball lied to us. It’s all his fault”

Kick the lying politicians and their linguists all you want but don’t forget to kick the stupid Americans who voted for Bush and who believed the lies coming from DC and Fux. The idiots who gave Bush a GOP majority in the middle of his first term were also complicit in supporting war with Iraq. Working together, all these people did was to kill thousands and waste trillions of dollars. They gave us the recent recession and the biggest hike in our national debt in history.

    Nice work, huh?

I think this is an attempt to rewrite history and clear bush/cheney of wrongdoing. I wonder how much money exchanged hands to get him to say this now. As I recall this guy was not very reliable and he was the lone con artist saying this and others were saying there wasn’t any wmd’s including the weapons inspectors as well as our own cia. I think bush wants his name cleared and he thinks this will do it. He chose to listened to this guy and dismiss more trustworthy opinions, even the cia told him he wasn’t reliable. This is just more crap from the bush adm.!

Cheney long before this flimflam man came along had already decided to go for the oil in Iraq.

As long as there was no attempt on the part of GW Bush and Cheney to vet out the tale of WMD, the lie just contributed to the pack of lies that Bush and Cheney did an excellent job of selling, to dumbed down Americans.

What is appalling is that, with carrying out an illegal war, outright lying, rendition, and condoning torture squads, George W. Bush and administration have escaped prosecution. It seems that lying and perpetual war is acceptable now.
If you are a politician, bank rolled and protected by the wealthy elite, the amount of hardship and misery you can deal out is unlimited.

  • Anonymous

This guy was the excuse Bush, et al, needed to go to war. In reality, all the top CIA folks knew it was a lie, but were not able to come forth in time or were threatened by the Bush Admin. to stay silent (see Valarie Plame).

I will say this again, because it bears repeating: Iraq’s only WMD were supplied by the Reagan Admin, by Rumsfeld himself, in 1985. It was our “contribution” to Iraq’s war with Iran. Iraq subsequently used these U.S.-made chemical weapons against the Kurds in the north of Iraq. Then, after the 1991 Gulf War, weapons inspectors and the severe embargo left Saddam with nothing in terms of lethal chem or bio weaponry. By 2003, any surviving WMD would have degraded to inert or a harmless state by lack of proper storage and handling in the intervening years. The CIA knew this, the UN weapons inspectors knew it and Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld knew it. These schmucks just wanted a big, expensive, US Treasury-draining event to achieve their evil plan to cut all social and welfare services in the US and enrich their corporate friends in multi-national Military- Industrial Comples businesses, like Halliburton, for instance.

    Hasbara spam alert
With Israel’s foreign ministry organising volunteers to flood news websites with pro-Israeli comments, Propaganda 2.0 is here

    February 14, 2011

The hasbara brigade strikes again! You always hear about Israeli attempts at media manipulation. Everyone knows it’s going on but usually the process happens through cyber insurgents like those involved with Giyus (and its media monitoring software, Megaphone). Now, we know that the Israeli foreign ministry itself is orchestrating propaganda efforts designed to flood news websites with pro-Israel arguments and information.

A reader of my blog has received the following email which documents both the efforts and the agency that originated them. The solicitation to become a pro-Israel “media volunteer” also includes a list of media links which the ministry would like addressed by pro-Israel comments:

    Dear friends,

We hold the [sic] military supremacy, yet fail the battle over the international media. We need to buy time for the IDF to succeed, and the least we can do is spare some (additional) minutes on the net. The ministry of foreign affairs is putting great efforts in balancing the media, but we all know it’s a battle of numbers. The more we post, blog, talkback, vote – the more likely we gain positive sentiment.

I was asked by the ministry of foreign affairs to arrange a network of volunteers, who are willing to contribute to this effort. If you’re up to it you will receive a daily messages & media package as well as targets.

If you wish to participate, please respond to this email.

I’m sure all the dead soldiers and the one million Iraq people killed along with thousands kidnapped and tortured by the US are glad to now hear it was all a lie. Many Americans hail the Bush Administration for removing a Dictator, well watching the Egypt people removed their dictator Mubarak. The entire Bush Administration knew this was a lie but used it for personal reasons. Powell has already apologized to Americans and the dead for his open knowing lie to the United Nations. While America once held to be the great honest nation to follow, Bush/Cheney changed that and we were known as War Criminals and open face liars. Alwan al Janabi was paid well for his information used by Cheney and now is making money telling his story. Rush out to get Bush and Rummy’s books to hear their made up please forgive me stories.

Even if this guy did lie, the UN still wasn’t okay with the U.S. invading Iraq. We went in there with basically no support except for a handful of states (that were still hesitant to support anyway but I’m sure we threatened/blackmailed them). Rumsfeld and Cheney probably pressured this guy to take the fall. They were already looking at Iraq BEFORE we went to war with Afghanistan. They knew for decades Iraq was sitting on oil pipelines and were plotting how to get their grubby hands on controlling them. WE put SADAM in power! Remember? WE USED to be allies and then, to the conveniency of these dick cheeses in office, suddenly Sadam was an “enemy” with “WMDs” who must be brought down. And don’t even get me started on Afghanistan. We shouldn’t have gone to war there either.

It’s ALL B.S. I feel bad for this guy. I smell MAJOR information being omitted.

  • Ignatzfattis

So, when is “Curveball” going to come to the realization that instead of being good for his country, his lie helped in no small way in the deaths and maimings of hundreds of thousands of totally innocent men, women and children?Oh, for what should’ve been -If it weren’t for Curveball’s lie, perhaps Saddam’s fall would have simply waited till now -with his succumbing to a popular uprising like Mubarrak. Any deaths incurred during which would have been on Saddam’s hands instead of ours. That would have been so much better -for Iraq and for us.And so again it’s proved that, while eternally tempting, “The End justifies the Means” is truely an evil fallacy.

Utter bull sh.t. The Bush administration knew Curveball was lying. There was no corroborating evidence but he was a useful and convenient liar.
They had an agenda so any evidence that contradicted their assumptions was hidden or ignored but never ever tested. As for Curvball he may have thought his lies justifiable but he was also well paid and protected by the Americans. He, like all the Bush administration, is a man without honour and I hope he is haunted by the hundreds of thousands of innocents that died because of his lies.

One reason Powell couldn’t run for President. There is ample video of Powell lying to the UN.
In any campaign, his opponents would smear him with that video tape.
“Let’s go to the video tape and watch Powell lie in front of the UN Security Counsel”

It’s sad that people like Powell will take the fall for cumbags like Bush & Cheney.

  • Ignatzfattis

Yeah Bush knew. Of course many people doubted the WMD story at the time, but I for one knew for sure that Bush, et al also knew it was a lie the minute the invasion started before Saddam had finished destroying his arsenal of al-Samoud 2 missiles -which he was doing, in compliance with our demand -up to the minute of our invasion at the rate of 6 per day. These missiles would have been extremely dangerous to our soldiers if armed with the WMDs we were all told existed, so logically I figured Bush, et al -who wanted to keep US casualties low in order to keep support for the war high -knew for sure that the WMDs did not exist before the invasion. From what I remember, there were about 50 al-Samoud 2s left -less than 10 days worth of dismantling to be done when we invaded. Those 50 missiles could’ve cost thousands of our soldier’s lives. Bush, et al knew the WMD story was a lie.

The CIA nicknamed him ‘Curveball’ for a reason – his information was so unreliable that The CIA disregarded his information. The CIA informed Colin Powell and The Administration – Bush and Cheney – and was ignored. The secret intelligence office inside The CIA that mishandled the information was headed by right-wing neo-cons from The Bush Administration. Feith, Wolfowitz, and others.

They only used information that fit their story. Because they were mostly Jews, this place into right-wing propaganda and conspiracy that they acted on Israel’s behalf to assure the destruction of an Israeli foe. Also, those same names are reported by Sibel Edmonds, considered a most reliable whistleblower by The FBI, to have helped Israel and Turkey steal and sell nuclear technology and know-how to Iran, Libya, North Korea, and other hostile regimes. That is right, folks, the nuclear bomb that Pakistan and N. Korea have? US technology and know-how. Google it. Or go to Brad Blog.

This confirms that George Bush, Dick Cheney, and supporters (including the entire Republican-TeaBag base) are nothing more than war criminals and supporters of war crimes.

David Edwards, seriously, can’t you give us a better analysis than that?

The Guardian published a story on this today, that you probably read to put together your fluff piece as well.

Curveball’s lies, have been reported on many times before, and it has already been demonstrably shown, that his lies were easily ascertained as such, even by his original interrogators at the CIA, who have even said as much.

This new media blitz, which you are sucking up like an amateur media analyst, is clearly designed to serve the following purpose…

To present Curveball in a sympathetic light, to cast the designers of the Iraq War as being victims of his lies, and to wrap it all up in an “ends justify the means” package, while at the same time framing the “ends” as being pro-democracy.

    Come on RS!!!!!

Good gawd, these people can be indicted with press clippings (ie public utterances) their writings and copious amounts of evidence they lied and knew exactly what they were doing when they concocted their scenario of “WMD’s”. THEY gave me this chance? Am I missing something here? This guy needs to identify by name who “THEY” are. Did someone specifically give him the chance to “fabricate something” to justify invading Iraq? We all have our suspicions, but this guy sounds like he has some very pertinent insider information. And if so, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to read about his untimely death in the not too distant, so he should name names before THEY have a chance to silence him. Maybe it’s nothing, but I think there should be some clarification as to precisely who he is referring to.

All that fact that Iraq had weapons of mass distractions(biological, chemical ) it was a lie,a cover up just to attack Iraq for different reasons then a lot of people think, more complicated reasons for the average American to understand ,the American citizen is premeditated brainwashed since birth .And this guy who is saying and taking full responsibility is a huge BS the fact that he provided the information to the US Government about those weapons of mass destruction is another lie like everything what’s going on this country right now. They payed him to come out with those statement to take the blame of from our Government.I bet he got a fat paycheck or whatever he is on the Government Payrol.

  • Anonymous

When are we going to get the same admittances from those in the Bush administration who packaged and sold this man’s false claims as proof that we needed to attack Iraq. There was plenty of evidence that his story had already been debunked by German intelligence, who were the only people yo actually spent any time with this guy.

The reason this story was able to be circulate an use is that Cheney an Rummy constricted their own little four man operation in the Pentagon and their job was to go over the raw intelligence reports and pay no attention to whether or not those reports had already been debunked, the point was to resurrect and rethink all past intelligence as if it might be true in order to find some evidence somewhere for the kind of actions that the Bushees believed Iraq was taking or had already taken.

This kind of garbage peddled to news outlets far and wide was the result of that specific policy. And yet the FOX Entertainment Channel is probably ignoring this story and running one of their occasional stories claiming that WMD were actually found in Iraq because that’s just how they roll.

An yet even with all this we are still there, we have already constructed the biggest little American embassy in the whole damn world there and we won’t be leaving anytime soon!

One other thing, Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi is still lying out his ass, the Germans, according to a long and detaile article that ran in “The Los Angeles Times” on him and his interrogation by the Germans, told the CIA that he was a drunk and delusional and not to be trusted and they said that he was probably a publicity seeker or he was being paid to say what he said. But they were convinced that nothing that he said was true. Colin Powell’s statements before the UN were nearly all debunked by various bloggers in America and England within 24 hours of his speech.

At the time this occurred I was posting on the Netscape Boards before Netscape was bought out by AOL and I made numerous posts laughing about what I called “Saddam’s Mobile Meth Labs” because I suspected without any real scientific evidence that the only thing that could possibly be cooked up in the contraptions as they were drawn and presented at the UN presentation was meth. Actually I was overstating it, now I realize that the hoax was so decrepit and farcical that not even meth could have been effectively manufactured in those tank and tube contraptions.

What a crock that they prop this Curveball guy up as their excuse to invade. Sixteen different intelligence agencies under Paul Pillar who coordinated them all and submitted them in a one page summary to Bush, told Bush in that summary that Iraq was NO imminent threat and that Iraq was at least ten years away from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Powell’s a liar who deserves nothing but public scorn and withering ridicule for his UN debacle, when he showed far more loyalty to Bush Jr than to the Constitution the General swore to “uphold and defend”

Regarding his role in trying to cover up what happened at My Lai

    http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/090409.html

“Major Powell undertook the assignment to review Glen’s letter, but did so without questioning Glen or assigning anyone else to talk with him. Powell simply accepted a claim from Glen’s superior officer that Glen was not close enough to the front lines to know what he was writing about, an assertion Glen denies.

“After that cursory investigation, Powell drafted a response on Dec. 13, 1968. He admitted to no pattern of wrongdoing. Powell claimed that U.S. soldiers in Vietnam were taught to treat Vietnamese courteously and respectfully. The Americal troops also had gone through an hour-long course on how to treat prisoners of war under the Geneva Conventions, Powell noted.

“There may be isolated cases of mistreatment of civilians and POWs,” Powell wrote in 1968. But “this by no means reflects the general attitude throughout the Division.” Indeed, Powell’s memo faulted Glen for not complaining earlier and for failing to be more specific in his letter.

“In direct refutation of this [Glen's] portrayal,” Powell concluded, “is the fact that relations between Americal soldiers and the Vietnamese people are excellent.”

Only committee chairmen are fully briefed and the members on the committee are given a much abridged version. And none of the members of the committee or the chairmen can act on their information or speak a word of what they were told.

The information given the Senate/House Intelligence Committees by the Bush Administration included the very very very suspect testimony of Curveball as factual support for the invasion.

They were “briefed” but the briefings were fairy tales concocted by the Administration.

Okay .. my take on this is that they forced him to say this because it give the Bush administration cover … they can continue to claim they were told by inside sources that Saddam had WMDs. In fact they knew he did not and used any excuse or lie to enter an illegal war.

see link below ‘profile of the sociopath’ and see if you can draw any conclusions.

    http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html

    # Glibness and Superficial Charm

    # Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

    # Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as “their right.”

    # Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

    # Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

    # Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

    # Incapacity for Love

    # Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

    # Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others’ feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

    # Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

To this day, Obama and the Republicans perpetrate wanton murder in honor of this man’s lies.

And yet some say that there is still legitimacy in the laws and institutions of the United States of America.

What drivel. Surely it’s obvious to the dimmest wits that something far stronger than a few criminal prosecutions is needed here.

It did not need access to the intelligence to know that the Empire’s claims about Iraq were lies. Everyone in the world except the Empire’s attention span-challenged, media-brainwashed populace knew they were lies. There was no excuse, ever, to believe anything this crook said. I hope the people of Iraq get their hands on him someday. Being skinned slowly is too good for him.

If he lied to get us into war on false premises, then why is he not in jail and why did we give him asylum, unless the Bush Administration was in on the lie?

Bush is save because its against the Law to hang a Retard.

  • Mr. Neutron

Welcome to the planet – did you just get here last week ?

Everybody knew the Bush Administration was lying to get a casus belli, it was just PR for the clueless Americans. The 2003 “State of the Union” speech was pure Kabuki theater, getting the rubes ready for War. Those “mobile bio-weapons labs”, for which Powell furnished nice cartoon sketches, were already checked out by UNSCOM and UNMOVIC – they were mobile labs for producing hydrogen for weather balloons – you don’t put frakkin’ canvas walls on a bioweapons mobile truck.
Those “aluminum tubes” were well known in Europe and in the UN to be rocket parts – nothing to do with “uranium enrichment”. The “chemical munitions” “discovered” right before the illegal invasion was harmless goo, since it was decades past its shelf life. The “unpermitted rockets” discovered in Iraq before Shock and Awe were declared to have too long a range – because the Americans fired them empty, to get that longer range. When loaded, the rockets were exactly what the UN allowed. The whole runup to the War was purely for domestic consumption for the ignorant Fox News crowd – why do you think 10′s of millions of people were protesting this illegal invasion months before it was launched ? Anyone paying attention and with an IQ above 99 knew exactly what was going on in early 2003, but how can you stop an Administration determined to go to War ? Millions of people knew Curveball by name, and knew he was bullshitting just to get money and out of Iraq – before the Invasion ! Germany was saying publicly that this guy was a liar and alcoholic, with obvious incentives to spin lies (they were paying him for his “intelligence”).

No, too late to blame a scamming Iraqi – the whole fucking US country is to blame for this illegal Invasion – people that supported the War were either willfully ignorant, or too stupid to be allowed to vote.

  • Iconoclasm

Whats more fascinating is the fact that we killed so many INNOCENThuman beings who were simply citizens under the rule of a man that started out a U.S, asset abd we are STILL there!!!

We should all follow suit with the Egyptian population and force these criminals out and indict Bush, Cheney, Rummy and Obama, or the blood will always be on our hands!

  • SuccumbingToSanity

and even then Cheney,Rumsfeld,Wolfowitz,Dubya,Powell and of course Christopher “neocon apologist dumbass with a posh accent” Hitchens will be walking around without a care nor face any legal action.

What an example to set for ‘freedom and democracy’ America!!! What a fine example!

Mr.Powell was forced to protect Bush and quit when everyone else was kissing Bushs ass, Mr Powell understood he was being used and got out of the Bush gang as soon as he could, I respect his dissension.

I respect Mr. Powell and would vote for him to be president sooner than I would Obama,

Mr.Powell is a great man that we should all respect.

Duped. The ‘world’s only super power’, duped. The New York Times and all the rest of professional media, duped, by a two-bit con man. A nothing, a nobody. We pay all that money to maintain this facade, for the best intelligence money can buy, for the strongest military and we were had by a punk Iraqi who wanted to settle scores with his leader. Many progressives were saying all along it was all a lie, and plenty of Americans and British marched and demonstrated against the drum beat for war, but their voices were ignored; we will still have people come forth to repeat the lie and rationalize the deaths of millions and the displacement of thousands on this Iraqi nobody’s admitted lies. Says something about us doesn’t it? Now my question is what else are we being lied about and by whom, and how long and how many deaths will have to pass before we realize that? (Hint: why don’t we ask Frank Gaffney who covers up his insanity and subsequent banishment from some conservative circles because of it with Islamophobia) Sometimes, when we release this progression of hatred and rage upon people different from ourselves, we are our own worst enemies.

  • overdoneputaforkinit

What if a whistle blower / insider / turncoat described that they planted explosives, and described how it was done and all the details? Would that be proof enough? Because that is what I would like to know.

How about the high-tech nano-thermite particles found throughout the WTC dust? That dust is the evidence they couldn’t gather up and ship out of the country ASAP like they did the steel.

Sorry, but when I saw Powell give his presentation in front of the UN, I could tell he was spouting BS, and that HE knew it. And I was just a citizen at home watching it on the teevee. You can’t tell me that the leadership of the Democratic party didn’t know it as well, and that they share a lot of the blame for pounding the drums. Bush and Cheney et al. are the war criminals, but anyone in Congress who voted for the resolution to give war powers to Bush are accomplices. I’ve always thought that Obama didn’t pursue investigation and charges because too many top dems would have been implicated.

Why do you think conservatives are against properly funding public education (or, sometimes, against funding it at all)? If we had a better educated populace, we’d all be able to think critically and see though their lies and specious arguments. They have to cultivate ignorance to stay in power.

Mr. al Janabi is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of his people. His death count dwarfs Saddam Hussein’s. Refrigerator trucks masquerading as mobile weapons laboratories. Many Americans knew Colin Powell was full of shit when he opened his mouth at the United Nations. Question is: “Where are the indictments?”

Curveball was the fall guy all along. His revelation proves nothing. The bush admin knew all along before he took office he was going to send our 4000+ soldiers to die in vein. 1. This was doing Israel’s work. 2. This was a strategic setup for the defense industry. 3. This was how they intended to rape america of it’s rich resources. I know it’s off the subject but while im on my soap box, Anytime John Boehner says the american people, just put rich, white, and wealthy before it. Then you will truly understand whom he is referring too!

I am glad that he is happy he did the right thing. I mean after all he only killed a few hundred thousand of his own people, forced relocation of about 5 million more, destroyed families and and killed children.

As for the US, we had people like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Hadley, Wolfowitz, and of course our dear Mr. Bush was masquerading as a president at the time. None of them made any attempt to confirm this information or this guys credibility. And they massacred over 4000 of our own soldiers on what we now know as lies. In fact everyone knew it was lies to start with when the inspectors said there was nothing there. If you read the book the 1% doctrine you will know that Powell was pressured into this by the war criminals that worked with him.

United States will never be clean until Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and a whole cadre of others are in prison. But we know that’s never going to happen. All we can hope for is that they are arrested while traveling around the world.

All of this killing in part based on one man’s lies. And yet he seems happy that there is no more dictator because he can totally ignore all of the dead relocated and broken families

Maybe you could explain how my above post is somehow nasty and like the people I despise?
    What exactly is the problem?
Is it wrong that I have passion? Is it terrible that I have strong feelings?

And how the hell do you know who I despise? Are you the hall monitor?
If there is some problem with the above post, you’ve got some strange problem.

Sweet, sweet lies. I know a lot of people like you who hide their head in the sand and believe whatever they’re told by the establishment and require NO HARD evidence. If they’re saying it IT MUST BE TRUE.

The My Lai massacre. On March 16, 1968, US soldiers from the Americal Division slaughtered 347 civilians–primarily old men, women, children, and babies–in the Vietnamese village of My Lai 4 (pronounced, very appropriately, as “me lie”). The grunts also engaged in torture and rape of the villagers.

Around six months later, a soldier in the 11th Light Infantry Brigade–known among the men as “the Butcher’s Brigade”–wrote a letter telling of widespread killing and torturing of Vietnamese civilians by entire units of the US military (he did not specifically refer to My Lai). The letter was sent to the general in charge of ‘Nam and trickled down the chain of command to Major Colin Powell, a deputy assistant chief of staff at the Americal Division, who was charged with investigating the matter and formulating a response.

After a desultory check–which consisted mainly of investigating the soldier who wrote the letter, rather than his allegations–Powell reported that everything was hunkey-dory. There may be some “isolated incidents” by individual bad seeds, but there were no widespread atrocities. He wrote: “In direct refutation of this portrayal is the fact that relations between Americal soldiers and the Vietnamese people are excellent.” The matter was closed.

Did you catch the part in Curveballs video that the German’s are not treating him fair these days. They took his phone away (guess he had free service). He made up the story for the People of Iraq. When asked “Would you do it again, considering over 100,000 Iraq’s died and millions wounded. He said yes, he would do it for the People of Iraq again” So why in the hell is he living in Germany. Go back to your Iraq and continue helping them. Reminds me when they ask Cheney or Bush, knowing what they know today, would they still invade Iraq. Without a blink, Yes, Yes, because Saddam was a bad man. Give me a break

Budzilla beat me to it-Donovan wrote it circa 1966. Thanks for reminding me how old I am. Grrr…. However, it wasn’t “hippies out to make it rich”, it was beatniks. Hippie didn’t really gain much usage until late 1966, early 1967. An interesting time that seeded much of what has been going on on the Left for the last 40 years. Sigh.

Why isn’t this scumbag behind bars?

He has the blood of thousands of US soldiers and hundreds of thousands of HIS OWN PEOPLE on his hands. His folly has siphoned billions of dollars from the US Treasury, completely destroyed his own country, shattered the lives of countless Americans and Iraqis, displaced millions more of his former countrymen, and empowered the theocrats in Iran.

He, all the Bush-Cheney neocon gang, ALL OF THEM, need to be prosecuted for war crimes.

It seems to me that this “confession” provides yet more proof that they are all complicit in one of the worst Constitutional violations and international provocations in decades, and must be punished for it.

There was no faulty intelligence. The intelligence said “no WMD in Iraq”.. I know because I was following the story in 2002 while the Bush Admin LIED about the intelligence and the intelligence folks were TELLING us the Admin was lying.

Not everyone believed the lies Cheney fed to the MSM then referenced as “evidence” .. not everyone trusted the Liar in Chief and his Iran-Contra thugs. And we didn’t fall for the bullshit because we LISTENED to the ACTUAL intelligence guys, not the shills on FOX and the rest of the MSM talking about “unnamed sources blah blah”.

Kerry, Clinton, Clinton, Pelosi, Reid, and all the rest of the Dems that “believed it” were idiots who FAILED to do their jobs. The facts were available, but they took the Liar in Chief at his obviously tainted word. You’ll note that SEVERAL members of Congress did NOT vote to let Bush illegally invade Iraq. Why is that, do you think? .. they did their JOBS, learned the facts, and knew the Shrub was lying his ass off.

Doesn’t matter if Curveball now admits his lies.. The intelligence reports given to the President in 2001 and 2002 did not support the claims. Our intelligence networks NEW there were NO WMDs in Iraq. They TOLD the President that. And the war criminals ignored it all and illegally invaded anyway.

  • Mr. Neutron

My first question was rhetorical too.

Obviously I’m still mad over the way the diffuse US ignorance was manipulated, yet again, into a bad national decision. At least the Cheney/Bush plan to steal the Iraqi oil through Production Sharing Agreements didn’t work out. I hope the next iteration of the League of Nations is more successful later this century, when China is the Superpower.

  • Mr. Neutron

The Cheney Administration believed what it wanted to believe, and ignored what it wanted to ignore:

    http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1845
On February 24 [2003], Newsweek broke what may be the biggest story of the Iraq crisis. In a revelation that “raises questions about whether the WMD [weapons of mass destruction] stockpiles attributed to Iraq still exist,” the magazine’s issue dated March 3 reported that the Iraqi weapons chief who defected from the regime in 1995 told U.N. inspectors that Iraq had destroyed its entire stockpile of chemical and biological weapons and banned missiles, as Iraq claims.

Even after explicitly told all these weapons were destroyed, hawks in the Administration and Media pretended the exact opposite – such as Powell’s completely fictitious February 5 presentation to the U.N. Security Council.

The people who took the US to War did so because they thought it would be highly profitable (for them) – the reason the US always goes to War.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I remember watching him speak to the UN live; it was painfully, painfully obvious that he was lying through his teeth. It almost looked like he was suffering physical trauma from the words coming out of his mouth. There was no real enthusiasm and he gave off a clear aura of “this is humiliating to say, and I can’t believe we’re having this sorry puppet show.”

Obama didn’t and never will investigate this because there is no difference between his party and that of Bush and Cheney. There’s nothing to investigate; they’re all part of the same corporatist machine.
