LONDON — Ex-secretary of state Colin Powell called on the CIA and Pentagon to explain how he was given unreliable information which proved key to the US case for invading Iraq, the Guardian reported Wednesday.

Powell’s landmark speech to the United Nations on February 5, 2003, cited intelligence about Iraq leader Saddam Hussein’s bioweapons programme gained from a defector, codenamed Curveball.

But he has now admitted that he lied to topple the dictator, in an interview with the Guardian.

“It has been known for several years that the source called Curveball was totally unreliable,” Powell told the British newspaper.

“The question should be put to the CIA and the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) as to why this wasn’t known before the false information was put into the (report) sent to Congress, the president’s state of the union address and my 5 February presentation to the UN.”

The defector, real name Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, told the Guardian that he lied to the BND, Germany’s secret service, by claiming in 2000 that Iraq had mobile bioweapons trucks and had built clandestine factories.

During Powell’s speech, Janabi was described as “an Iraqi chemical engineer” who “supervised one of these facilities.”

“He actually was present during biological agent production runs and was also at the site when an accident occurred in 1998,” Powell told the UN.

Janabi was exposed as an unreliable source when the BND visited Bassil Latif, his former boss at the Military Industries Commission in Iraq, who said there were no trucks or factories.

However, the BND continued to cooperate with the trained chemical engineer, and the false statements were eventually passed on to senior US policymakers by the intelligence services.

The resulting conflict claimed more than 100,000 civilian lives and ruined the political standing of the then US president George W. Bush and his defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Hans-Christian Stroebele, a Green deputy in Germany’s federal parliament, told the Guardian Janabi had arguably broken the German law which forbids warmongering.

What happened Colin, did you just come out of an 8-year coma?
Everyone now knows that you lied when you swore to the UN that there were WMDs in Iraq. The question is why you are admitting it now and demanding answers now when it makes almost no difference anymore.
    Or is that the reason?
We could have used a backbone in the Chimp administration.

He also should have asked why he was given a vial of powder to wave around like it was anthrax, when the US knew that the anthrax in Iraq was a liquid and not a weaponised powder

You have been played a fool stupid ass.

  • http://www.balmorheaprogressive.blogspot.com/ BaileyWuXiang

This is bullshit. They’re trying to build a case that was initially proffered by Cheney — that the invasion was based upon “bad intelligence” provided by CIA. By scapegoating CIA and getting Tenet to resign (only to give him the Presidential Medal), Cheney distracted the public, along with a hop-along media, from the fact that his cabal of neocons at the Office of Special Plans at the Pentagon was purposely and maliciously manufacturing the causus belli against Iraq; to say nothing of 911.

If Colin Powell runs against Obama they’re going to have to bring in water trucks and street crews to clean the trousers of teabaggers.

If I remember correctly, he even got out his big crayola and drew pictures of this “trojan horse” because there were no photos of the wmd’s.

What a joke…Powell knew it was BS but like many they have photos of him worshiping demons and having sex with children at Bohemian Grove.

You are being played if you think Powell didn’t know all this.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_KLF5SUA5RDYXG54WWF5SHMVRAI X

Fuck you, Powell. Everybody knew this guy was a fake long before you lied to the world.

We had weapons inspectors, legitimate defectors, spy planes, helicopters, etc. all over Iraq, telling us everything we needed to know. We had people inside the presidential palaces, for god’s sake. Everybody agreed: THERE WERE NO WEAPONS.

In the run-up to the Iraq war we had the best intelligence that has ever been available in any similar situation in the history of the United States of America. The intelligence was as close to unanimous as possible: THERE WERE NO WEAPONS. EVERYBODY KNEW IT.

You are just another bitch on history’s list of war criminals. I wish there were a hell.

  • kimsarah

Exactly. He apparently hasn’t sought out White House advice on this. Why look backward, when he should instead look forward?

I know history is supposed to vindicate “W” – but it’s actually starting to “vindicate” Saddam Hussein.

(the reality is that the “Bush Regime” wasn’t that different from the “Hussein Regime”.)

  • dula

I remember a 60 Minutes special where Powell’s staff admitted they told him that the “intelligence” was all manipulated to fix the facts around the policy. He knew.

B.S. aye – Talk about jumping the shark. Just when the threadbare cover story of WMDs for the illegal preventive war was on its last thread, Powell tries to pass the buck once more in an attempt to resurrect his sorry reputation from the ashes.

Powell was the guy who knew and the public perceived him to be the one who should know the difference between junk- and real-intelligence – especially when it came to Iraq. He was Bush 1′s point man in the Pentagon for Desert Storm and was the instrument that ended that war in the way it was ended. Who else would be better qualified to judge the merits of the information available on Iraq? That’s exactly why he was recruited to do the snow-job at the U.N.. Watching that show, it was clear to me (with some experience) that the photos and information presented did not prove WMDs – certainly not on the level of say, the photos of Soviet missile sites in Cuba that triggered that crisis, yet they were being presented as evidence to make an illegal preventive war appear to be a legal preemptive war. Even I reluctantly concluded that although the evidence presented fell far short, Powell must know more than he’s saying or he wouldn’t be putting his reputation on the line.

I was wrong, he’s a slug, and he did put his reputation on the line, but for a knowing lie. He’s done! Finished! If he won’t go away willingly, get the hook because this is just the kind of people we have to keep far away from the levers of power.

Yesterday, anti-war activist and former CIA station chief Ray McGovern was arrested, manhandled and later beaten and thrown in jail. He had stood in silent protest during a speech by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during which she called out foreign governments and condemned them for the very things going on under her nose while she spoke. She kept a smile on her face the entire time, never giving pause to what was happening to McGovern close by her podium — not even a second thought or a glance. Total hypocrisy. This video is about to go viral.

Either Powell did not know that the “evidence” for was was specious, thereby revealing that as a top General of the United States he was a completely incompetent fool; or he did know and intentionally lied to Congress and the American people for the purpose of promoting war.

Which is it Powell? Incompetent Fool? or Egregious Liar?

  • http://www.balmorheaprogressive.blogspot.com/ BaileyWuXiang

And now he’s giving it the Cheney Spin — that they didn’t know the intelligence was bad. Hell, they manufactured the intelligence out of whole cloth, including the Yellowcake Forgery.

  • http://www.balmorheaprogressive.blogspot.com/ BaileyWuXiang

Unfortunately, that regime continues under Obama.

  • Anonymous

We knew this was a lie in 2005 because we were allowed to see the CIA report that Congress had already seen in 2004.

Did it stop them? Did it make a difference? Of course not, because GWB/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice/et al were in office and were already using intel they knew was fake as justification for a war of choice. Trying to pin the “warmonger” badge on someone else after all that we know now is an insult to the intellect of us all.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/LEUDUVF5EGJZRZETF3KV53P7BQ Thomas

The reason he’s demanding answers is simple. He’s covering his ass when the war crimes trials start in 150 to 200 years from now. Before then, it will be said that nothing can be investigated due to national security concerns.

  • Anon 7777

Mr. Powell your time for courage, convictions and questions have long past. You are now stuck in the the line up with the rest of your war criminal friends. You are a liar, a disgrace and a war criminal. Either grow a pair and tell the truth about what you know or shut the hell up with your cheap soap opera surprise act about WMDs lies.

  • Anonymous

Powell, we have satellites that could see a marble on the ground. You were showing cartoon drawings of what was supposed to be mobile biological weapons laboratories and you didn’t know they were probably just box trucks for totally legitimate purposes like Saddam was telling you?

That’s damn funny, because I knew. I will never forget you showing those mechanical drawings. That’s when I knew everything you were saying was outright contrived bullshit.

“They must know more than they are saying.” This was the rationale I kept hearing in the runup to the war. After the Gulf of Tonkin, The Maine in the Spanish-American war, and now Iraq I would go as far as saying that you simply cannot believe your government in it’s reasons for war.
I do think Powell was in the bubble on the runup and believed in the information. There may even have been rumors that never surfaced publicly that seemed credible at the time and contributed to the frenzy. Politically I hope he and that entire crew are done, they proved themselves worse than useless.

  • Anonymous

Though nothing will redeem Powell’s reputation after lying to the nations of the world, the fact he is trying to hold anyone accountable demonstrates a far higher degree of integrity (shame?) than Rumsfield, Cheney and Co. or anyone in the present administration.

Where is Rep. Peter King with his axe to grind? This dipstick admits to lying to get us into an illegal war(and Bush/Cheney/et all made sure to use his lies) which costs many of our soldiers and Iraqis lives not to mention the huge costs. Why isn’t King pushing to have him investigated? Yet Wikileaks puts out the truth and King is jumping up and down and wants Assauge’s head. And Colin Powell, who seems to have been living in a bubble if he didn’t know about this(which is suspect), should tell King to stop going after Wikileaks and get his act together on curveball instead.

The Banksters obviously desire Powell as one of their next stooges so he has to act this charade and pretend he didn’t know Curveball was a complete fabrication. What a low-life. Many died because of him.

I’m so tired of this whole discussion. Why doesn’t someone who was there just tell the world that all the pre war intel was fabricated by bush insiders who were drooling over the prospect of a war? We all know that info was cherry picked and spun to make it look dire. We also know that almost no one was willing to question anything we were told because anyone who did was called unAmerican at best. These guys planned and executed their strategy and way too many Americans weren’t willing to allow themselves to think they were being lead down a destructive path. These little angry blasts now only rub salt in the wounds and solve nothing. I’m waiting for people like Tenet to give back the medal they gave him to shut him up and finally tell the truth about what happened. Maybe then the justice dept. would get interested in pursuing the criminals who have trashed this country’s economy and killed thousands of people for oil and because saddam tried to kill bush’s daddy.

100,000 Iraqi civilian lives? More like 1,000,000 Iraqi civilian casualties . . . . not to mention the $2,000,000,000,000.00 poured down a rathole in the desert, enough to fund Social Security for 75 years. If the Obama Admin had an ounce of guts or integrity, Bush and Cheney would be in chains in Leavenworth.

Doesn’t matter who lied to whom–except, of course, it does matter to the dead and their families (American, Iraqis, and those in the “coalition”)–no one is going to be held accountable. Nope. The only way we can get the Bush/Cheney bastards is by trying them for torture. Our DJ won’t do it, but we can only hope that the rest of the world sees fit to move forward on that. The “I didn’t know!” and “He did it!” defense is going to work on this horribly unnecessary war…the torture, however…

Bullshit-Powell is asking the wrong question here:”Why didn’t the CIA tell us Curveball was totally unreliable”??? The right question should have been:”Why didn’t any of you idiots verify from other sources on what you are being told?” Oh-wait a minute-there were opposing voices-Joseph C. Wilson comes to mind and he was branded an unpatriotric liar plus his spy-wife was outed by the Bush mafia for their troubles. Give it up Colin-your ex-boss and his thugs WANTED this war right from the start.Any half-assed imformat was good enough as long as it supported the cause.

I clearly remember the inspectors being allowed access wherever they wanted and finding nothing. They even had the option of increasing the inspection force from several hundred to several thousand. Bush deliberately pulled them out and ordered a preemptive invasion of a relatively harmless country. The Bush/Cheney engineered invasion was the biggest fiasco that this country has been involved in in a couple of hundred years. With all the people killed as a result it should also be considered as negligent homicide if not an outright war crime.
Powell went along when he should have known better. He’s either not as smart as we thought or he’s a liar like the scumbags he was working for.

I remember watching him show “photos” of “sites where these weapons used to be made” showing some abandoned places. We used to have a humorist who presented a photo and added a “funny” title. So once he displayed a photo of a ruined house and the title said “house in which Enrico Fermi split the atom”. The presentation by Mr. Powell was about the same level. I could have made that show, or anyone. Now he pretends not to have known – I hope noone will believe that.

  • Anonymous

This was also what I understood to be the case — that his private remarks to staff made it quite clear that he didn’t believe the intel, nor did he want anything to do with the deceptive presentation to the UN.

It would seem the truly pertinent question General Powell should be asking at this way too late stage should be directed to his bathroom mirror, and that is, “Knowing what I knew at the time, why on Earth did I go ahead and permit myself to be used by BushCo (people I disliked and distrusted) in such a way?” And if ‘professional loyalty’ and/or ‘just following orders’ is the best answer(s) he can come up with, I’d say he needs to be concerned for his soul.

Maybe I’m a sap, but I can’t feel anything but pity for what I suspect was once a very decent, if not great, man.

The State Department doesn’t have it’s own people telling the Secretary what’s happening in other countries? I find his denial of knowing what was really going on to be unbelievable.

I’m curious to hear what Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Powell’s former Chief of Staff, will have to say about this admission. Of all the sorry crew of the Failboat Bush, Larry Wilkerson was the only one with an ounce of honor and honesty. I wish he would tell us all he knows. It would be, without a doubt, damning.

Good for Powell. This ruined his career.

Powell is still trying to pretend he was given bad intelligence and couldn’t possibly have known that what he was saying was Bullshit. Sorry Colin, you lose.

I don’t know shit about chemical factories or the manufacture of biological weapons but I literally fell out laughing when I say those stupid drawings you presented that day at the UN. No one could possibly manufacture biological weapons on a truck bed with two tanks and a couple of pipes running between them. And it shouldn’t have taken a damn 4 star general to have questioned the validity of those drawings. That you didn’t think to do so is an international shame and casts a pale over the intellectual capabilities of every general in the Army, which may be why we are constantly hearing what geniuses you all are now.

And if you didn’t have the good sense to ask someone in that little office in the Pentagon who was feeding you all this bullshit: “How in hell is this stupid contraption supposed to create anthrax?” you don’t have a damn leg to stand on as far as covering your ass now!

In addition, you and your crackpot crew of Pentagon goons who supposedly worked according to the propaganda spread at the time 18 hours a day for 5 days under tremendous pressure checking each piece of evidence and information to make sure that there were multiple sources for it all, couldn’t debunk one thing that you were given. The only thing you refused to do was hold up one of those aluminum tubes that RIce, Cheney, and his personal spokesperson at The New York Times, Judith Miller had all claimed proved that Saddam was “reconstituting” his nuclear weapons program, and that was only because you knew that even on television someone would certainly know those tubes couldn’t be used for water pipes, let alone centrifuges.

Yet, within 24 hours nearly every piece of evidence you presented was debunked by bloggers with nothing more than internet access, who had almost no special knowledge in military intelligence. When you can explain that inconsistency, I’ll think about cutting you some slack, but until you can explain that you can forget about playing dumb.

Sat on the stage with Charles Wang (former CA head and convicted crook) and talked about ‘character’ while name dropping the famous folks he knew. He gets paid millions to be the GOPs favorite Black guy. Covered up the My Lai massacre, helped get his son (Michael Powell) to be head of the FCC where he tried to weaken what little freedom of the press we have by allowing Murdoch to buy all media in a specific market.

It’s disgusting the way he is treated with honor and respect and as a hero… as if he actually did any fighting — he’s just another self serving GOP scumbag lining his own pockets at the expense of others…

Republican Presidents that lied and turned against the People.

    Nixon lied about breakin.

Reagan lied to the American People about the former Soviet Union’s economic standings. The Republican Party later turned this lie into a myth that Reagan brought down the Soviet Union. The truth is the cold war was already over during the Nixon administration, the Soviets knew then that they won’t hang on and even told Nixon. Reagan lied about selling weapons to enemies, lied about trickle down.

Bush Sr covered up Reagan’s lie about selling weapons to enemies by giving everyone pardoned. Bush Sr lied to the American people by pretending the April Glaspie tape didn’t exist. Lied by pretending Iraq’s massive miliatry movement was a surprise, how can you not know a movement of that size is going on?

Bush Jr lied this nation into a war, the yellow cake lie, the curveball lie, the Iraq 911 connection lie, the trickle down lie. This guy has so many lies. His AWOL lie.

John Boehner third in power and already he lied about the amount of jobs created under the Obama administration.

Why do the common man in America vote for these Republican serial liars?

Now Powell wants to pretend that he didn’t know? How stupid can you get. They gave him a drawing, a test tube filled with water, a bag filled with baking powder, a tape with nothing but a garbled voice and a script. Come on this is bullshit, props and a script? Is Powell kidding? Or was he snookered?

The blue print was a plan developed by Perle, Feith, Wolfowits at the request of Bibi Nethanyahu known as “the C;ean Break” check it out on Google which has it from A to Z.

This Blueprint for the new Bush policy had actually been drawn up five years earlier by three of his top national security advisors, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, and David Wurmser who were working for conservative pro-Israel think tanks. James Bamford explains, “the centerpiece of the recommendations was the removal of Saddam Hussein as the first step in remaking the Middle East into a region friendly, instead of hostile, to Israel. Their plan “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm,” also signaled a radical departure from the peace-oriented policies of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated by a member of an extreme right-wing Israeli group.”

The report was “a kind of US-Israeli neoconservative manifesto” according to journalist Jason Vest. and came under the heading of “The Axis of Evil”. Attacking syria was on the agenda so was nuking Iran.

The principal guys that developed this strategy all worked for Donald Rumsfeld who obviously did not think Powel should know anything.

You knew it was a lie Colon, you just wanted it to go away into the night like you did after being it’s version of Ronald McDonald. Go fuck yourself, or better yet buy a house in Iraq and move there asshole.

  • Mr. Neutron

So, all evidence had to be tested by the simple method of seeking corroboration from other sources. This method was used across Whitehall, and in the Ministry of Defence and the Cabinet Office in particular, and was the basis for the Joint Intelligence Committee assessments of the WMD threat, several of which I contributed to. In the years I worked on the subject (1997-2002), the picture produced by this method was very clear: there was no credible evidence of substantial stocks of WMD in Iraq.

And it was this method – clearly – that was abandoned in advance of the war. Instead of a careful cross-checking of evidence, reports that suited the story of an imminent Iraqi threat were picked out, polished and formed the basis of public claims like Colin Powell’s presentation to the UN security council, or the No 10 dossier. This was exactly how a false case for war was constructed: not by the deliberate creation of a falsehood, but by willfully and secretly manipulating the evidence to exaggerate the importance of reports like Curveball’s, and to ignore contradictory evidence. This was a subtle process, elaborated from report to report, in such a way that allowed officials themselves to believe that they were not deliberately lying – more editing, perhaps, or simplifying for public presentation.

David Kelly and I discussed this very process – which he abhorred – a few weeks before he died. His revelation of it to a clumsy journalist, who called it “sexing up” (not a word that I think David would have used), was to trigger the events that led to his tragic death. Others of my former colleagues in the MOD and Foreign Office have freely admitted to me that this is precisely what took place. Yet, for all its subtlety and secrecy, we should name this process for what it was: the manufacture of a lie.

Donald Rumsfeld: “We saw from the air that there were dozens of trucks that went into that facility after the existence of it became public in the press and they moved things out. They dispersed them and took them away. So there may be nothing left. I don’t know that. But it’s way too soon to know.” ~ March 30, 2003

Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi (Curveball): “He says ‘there no trucks’ and I say, ok, when Dr Basil Latif says there are no trucks then there are none.” ~ to the BND (German Intelligence)

The Bush administration ignored evidence from the UN weapons inspectors that Curveball’s claims were false. Curveball had identified a particular Iraqi facility as a docking station for mobile labs. Satellite photography had showed a wall made such access impossible, but it was theorised that this wall was temporary. When United Nations Monitoring Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) inspectors visited the site on February 9, 2003, they found that the wall was a permanent structure and could find nothing to corroborate Curveball’s statements. Instead, the inspectors found the warehouse to be used for bird seed processing. (Wikipedia)

If average people on the street knew the “intel from curveball” was fake (as was well documented in other intel reports), Powell pretending that “the intel was wrong” is just another assertion of the lie that “Bush didn’t know it was wrong”, and is cover.

There were two reports done a few years ago. The first was to find out “was the intel modified” (did someone give Bush false intel).. the answer came back “no, the intel handed to the President was authentic”. The SECOND question was “did Bush lie about the intel he was given”.. that report was held until after the elections, and was not presented to the media/public with any fanfare. So, I ask.. if Bush did NOT lie, if this report proved Bush acted in good faith, why wasn’t this blared non-stop on FOX? Since we never really got to see what was in the report, and since the media (who runs cover for the ruling elite and the neo-cons) never made noise about it, we have to presume the report says “Bush lied to the people”.

Sure wish someplace like Raw would track that report down and stick it out there for everyone to see.

Interesting to note how Stepin Fetchit (the stage name of American comedian and film actor Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry) parlayed the Fetchit persona into a successful film career, eventually becoming a millionaire, the first black actor in history to do so. We see this sort of negative opportunism again, today, with hip-hop thugs using such racist and misogynistics terms as “nigger,” “bitch” and “ho” thrown all about, apparantly to create a certain sort of persona in the never ending effort to make a buck.

When African Americans like Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, and even Barack Obama, show up in the public arena, very arguably performing according to the negative stereotype, it seems a little hypocritical to pull the race card to forestall any real discussion of the criticism. After all, it’s not as if Harry Belafonte, and others, have not made the same claims.

He was a known entity at the time of his nomination to the court and he has provided just what was expected of him and his wife.

Powell knew about Curveball and how other countries knew his words were lies. But Curveball knew the US wanted a way to invade Iraq and he is now living comfortable with the back door money he received. Powell is now looking good to the Tea Party/Republicans as their man to beat Obama. Powell once had the respect of the Military, America and the World until he carried Bush/Cheney’s lies and asked he be trusted at his word. Now Powell in known all over the World as an open face liar and a puppet of a War Criminal.

Way to go, Colin! You’re only…let’s see…8 years late! For a conservative, that’s damn near punctual.

  • Anonymous

Now, now Mr. Neutron, you can clearly hear (albeit using a little imagination) Mr. Powell mutter after what you quoted.

“every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources. These are not assertions. What we are giving you are facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence.”

    Then he continued almost unheard:

” {cough}.. based on one guy’s stories we just happened to name {cough} CURVEBALL… and if you believe me you’re all exactly the fools I take you for {clears throat}”

  • Anonymous

Well the cover up and distractions continue. Remember this? In 2003 Powell as quoted as saying, “I’m not reading this. This is bullshit.” Of course history shows he read it to the UN anyway. So Powell’s demands are just more of the same – bullshit.

  • Anonymous

In this case, we need to look backward to go forward and get rid of these corrupt phonies running our government. If Powell was lied to, I believe it,,,Bush shoved him in a corner during his entire administration as he didn’t want Powell getting more recognition than Bush.

After the book “Bush At War” came out I bought it and read it. If more people would of read that book they would of known how Bush was treating Powell. HE USED HIM FOR A PAWN!!! Finally, Powell got smart and resigned!!

Now, since that book and Bob Woodward has come out with others, I can’t really say I am a fan of Woodward anymore. But he was allowed to sit in on those meetings during Bush era. After the book I don’t believe they were as kind to him about sitting at the same tables anymore.

  • Anonymous

Yes, I remember that,,,and I remember how he was coerced by Rumsfield and Cheney,,,not to mention Rove and Bush….He had a gut feeling and he should of walked out right then and there but he probably would of ended up in someone’s trunk. We have no idea what goes on with these high powered players in government..what should of happened is those sitting at their computers typing about it should of had a march on Washington. Now it’s time for National Hearings!! They think they are smart coming out with these books but what they don’t realize is that they are burying themselves!!! People knew all along but STILL voted them in? Or was it true that the elections were stolen? Will we ever know?

Since Mr. Powell is out of the Washington “loop”, he can now demand answers to the flawed Intel, that he knew was not solid enough to support an invasion, but as a Secretary of State, and SOLDIER, he put his allegiance to his Prez before his duty to the Republic.

i.e. if you was the assistance manager of a large corporation, maybe i should use the word “business”, that word “corporation” is a real turn-off these days, and you was making stupid money and living the high life, enjoying the American dream, and one day you found out that the business president was defrauding the company and making extra unreported millions.

What do you do? Turn him in knowing of his fraudulent habits or keep quiet? Powell knew of the consequences of “defecting”? solely in the name of righteousness sake for the people, that was too risky a move even for him. I would imagined that Mr. Powell thought many a nights of his and the administrations treasonous behavior and unjust policies, and decided that he was not going to slap the hand that pats his head. What Powell is demonstrating now is known as “belated atonement” to ease his conscience. Not enough at this point.

You wont feel comfortable here then because we are not afraid to call it as we see it. Huffington post has always been a terrible place to get FACTS!

It’s too late now, Mr. Powell. You should have followed your intuition when you made the speech, confirming that Hussein had WMDs. Its too late to return to the dead. The thousands and thousands of soldiers are gone forever, leaving families behind to grieve, and wonder what might have been had their sons and daughters lived.

And no less than a million men, woman and children killed in Iraq, all designated as “collateral damage” by Americans. Iraqi citizens, too, left behind grieving relatives. It’s too late, Mr. Powell. You and the media should have done your homework instead of drinking the iced piss that Bush told you to drink with each meal.

Colin Powell is a loser, a bag man and a war criminal. Now, what else would you like to discuss, Mr. Powell?:

  • Anonymous

Cheney no doubt made Curveball a rich man telling us what Cheney wanted to hear. But Powell must have known that he was in league with lying warmongers.

  • Anonymous

Bull! Step-N-Fetchit is not a racial slur as much as it is a description characterizing a certain type–a sycophant, a yes man, and a water carrier who does what he’s told to curry favor. That’s exactly what Powell was when lied before the UN. What’s more, in my opinion, Powell is a whore who sold himself and in the process helped slaughter a nation. They don’t come any more despicable.

Colin Powell another Republican taking personal responsibility for his lies!

We can take comfort in knowing that Nemesis is just waiting to get her claws into Powell. It’s inevitable sooner or later though sooner would be better.

  • Anonymous

If someone tried to throw you under a bus wouldn’t you resist? Of course you would but Powell didn’t resist,
he willingly crawled under the bus like the worm he is and told the driver (Bush) to step on the gas!
    The man is filth.

  • Anonymous

POWELL FOR PRESIDENT! Impossible? Don’t count on it. In a nation run by whores, fools, and lunatics anything is possible.

  • Anonymous

Nemesis is coming for us all. Those who know why, have and are right now, suffering the guilt and shame of the insane destruction of an entire society for absolutely nothing. Pity those that currently don’t know, but soon may, because the shock of this immeasurable sin against all of humanity will test to the maximum both their faith and sanity.

  • Anonymous

“Nemesis was the goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. She was a personification of the resentment aroused in men by those who commited crimes with apparent impunity”

I’m afraid I’m just not important enough for Nemesis to bother with but Powell should make the lady lick her chops.

Here’s where the REWARD for lying and doing the ass kissing really resides.
Their son, Michael Powell, was the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from 2001 to 2005

The perps will NEVER be punished…never. Want to know why? Because the neocon cabal who pushed, prodded, and propelled us into the Iraq debacle were almost entirely pro-Israel Zionists who betrayed their own country for Israel’s sake and as we all know, Israel is sacrosanct, untouchable, inviolate, and above criticism.

Yes, I’m prepared to deal with the usual idiotic screams of “anti Semite!” reserved for anyone daring to
criticize the all-powerful Israeli power block and its choke hold on our government.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for him?
What?? It’s not his fault some other idiot lied to him – and he believed them ??

He should stay quiet and hide away in the woodwork like brother-roaches do; hope some other honest decent thoughtful well-minded folk don’t get it into their heads to try him for wars of aggression and war crimes..etc.

  • Taleisin

This is just theater. All he has to do is stick to the script. He is protected by all the checks and balances, and will be fine. The system works.

  • Guest

True. Unless the PTB need a scapegoat. Hell, if unavoidable events made bush jr. usable he’d be gone. But yes… stick to the script and everything should work out just fine, and if it didn’t the fleischers and the foxmans of the world would be called out of retirement and the spin would begin again until the noise on the networks and on the blogs overwhelmed reason.

One more thing. When I lived on the upper west side of Manhattan in the neighborhood of Columbia, over a decade ago, I had a neighbor named Saul (can’t remember his last name) who looked uncannily like your avatar. I mean it’s a dead ringer… exact, even the glasses!

I knew there was something terribly familiar, and it took me a while, but it finally dawned on me.

  • Taleisin

I was talking to my son on the phone just now about your comment. He laughed and said the Avatar describes me perfectly, (but I am better looking). I am only pushing 50 but my knees give me a lot of pain, so I am grumpy before my time.

I just googled your old neighborhood. It blows me away that so many people can live in one little place.
Brisbane has 1 000 000 and is the size of Los Vegas. And that is crowded to me. :)

  • Guest

A lot of musicians artist and dancers used to live in that neighborhood. It wasn’t uncommon to hear singers preparing for a show doing scales. A lot of people but not uncomfortable. People in NYC are very tolerant and a melting pot.

  • Taleisin

I saw you were near Broadway. I used to be a musician as a young fellow. I imagine it would have been very inspiring to me then to be so close to all that excitement. As an older fellow now I am prefer to sit out in the bush and listen to the birds. Whereabouts are you now?

  • Guest

SEMO…that’s southeast Missouri. Long story. Teach crazy teens dance at a competition dance school in West Ky. Feel like I’m talking to Saul… my neighbor I told you about. Won’t be here forever, although the Missouri sky is BEAUTIFUL.

  • pspusp

http://bit.ly/eKB4Pq scary thing is if this guys runs for office he might just win. will have another liar in congress again

  • Taleisin

I haven’t been able to find much about Semo.
A dance teacher? Very cool. I have heard of the Missouri sky, would love to see it. I am in Brisbane. 2 Hours north, I can escape the city lights to see an awesome night sky.

  • Guest

Yeah, I was based in NYC since the early 80′s and have danced, directed, choreographed, and performed throughout the world. I had a yearly gig in West Ky. since ’91. I would go down to Paducah and teach at a competition school. In ’04 my beautiful upper west side apartment was blocked by an apartment high rise and I lost my view and was plunged into darkness 24/7.

When I went to Paducah for my yearly gig I decided to stay as my performing career was winding down and I had always fantasized about whether or not I could make world class dancers, here’s one of my kids I have trained over the past 6 years, enjoy:

  • Taleisin

I am sorry to hear about your apartment.
This girl is lovely to watch. Energy and presence with the bones of a rubber chicken. Her love of the dance comes through and so does her teacher’s. The joy you have given this girl will inspire her children one day to follow their passion too. You do good work. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • Guest

HAHA! Rubber chicken… Thank you. You have one of the best avatars I have ever seen. Hearing you say things like rubber chicken and looking at your avatar makes me laugh.

About your knees and the pain you experience… can you tell me a little more about them. I have fixed peoples bodies for decades and know a thing or two. Perhaps I can help…

  • Taleisin

I have torn up the pads in my knees and I couldn’t walk for a while. They operated, now I have osteoarthritis. I used to be a massage therapist but this is not a case of ‘healer, heal thyself’. I do stretches and strengthening exercises. I spend a lot of time sitting down, which shortens my quads and worsens my posture. So the cycle goes. The trick is living with it. Hence, grumpy old man.
I opened your email first up this morning, and I was thrilled that a stranger who, on the other side of the world, could turn out to be such an interesting person and share a little of her world and her heart with me. Thank you.

  • Guest

Ha! Like attracts like. You and Jaimie 11 are good people. I appreciate the both of you. I wish you the best.

  • truebluecoondog

Yes, I remember watching that UN Speech and it truly was a heart-sinking moment for democrats everywhere to witness the caving in of perhaps the one person in a position to represent us and call BS on the administration’s war. Very sad, indeed. I remember thinking, “what could they possibly have on him to make him publicly try to legitimize those pictures and drawings?” He was called upon to scare the American people into backing those criminals. Bad time to take orders, Mr. Powell.

  • Anonymous

Powell should be very wary about calling for accountability because of where it might lead us. Fortunately for him, no one is in the fighting spirit when it comes to these illegal acts carried out by the last Administration, and the likelihood anyone will be prosecuted for these war crimes is absolutely nil. However, like Bill Clinton’s stain on Monica’s dress, this will be the stain on Colin Powell’s life for as long as there is an America. I guess that’s punishment enough….
