WASHINGTON – In a dramatic departure from longstanding policy, the United States intends to support a United Nations Security Council resolutions censuring Israel for building settlements in Palestinian territory.

The Obama administration told Arab governments Tuesday it will back a draft resolution saying the Security Council “does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity,” according to Foreign Policy magazine.

The language, which was confirmed to Foreign Policy by two Security Council diplomats, calls the Israeli settlements “a serious obstacle to the peace process.” It says the Security Council “condemns all forms of violence, including rocket fire from Gaza, and stresses the need for calm and security for both peoples.”

The Obama administration has used similar language to criticize Israel on settlements, but has not supported any such UN resolution condemning Israel. Doing so would constitute a significant US policy shift towards its ally.

But the US also intends to veto a stronger non-binding resolution by the 15-member body denouncing the Israeli settlements as “illegal.” The new language was part of a compromise put forth by Susan Rice, the US Ambassador to the UN.

The earlier resolution was offered by the Palestinian Authority and garnered nearly 120 co-sponsors, all Arab and non-aligned states. UN diplomats told Reuters it would probably be approved by all Security Council members other than the US.

It says that “Israeli settlements established in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, are illegal and constitute a major obstacle to the achievement of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.”

The US has unilaterally vetoed or declined to support dozens of UN Security Council resolutions condemning Israel during the last several decades. For the US to support even the less harsh language is a remarkable development.

Palestinian leaders reportedly rejected the US offer on the new resolution, seeking instead to push for a vote Friday on the original language designating the Israel settlements “illegal.” It raised the prospect that the Obama administration would cast its first Security Council veto.

Raw Story’s Sahil Kapur appeared on RT’s “The Alyona Show” to discuss this story. This video was uploaded to YouTube, broadcast Thursday.

is this the long awaited start of America’s first and foremost rational foreign policy.. a ta overdue finally?

wow……color me skeptical. but love reading headlines like this.

I will believe when I see it. Still plenty of time for it to be pulled.

Don’t get carried away folks. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is buying this meaningless gesture even if they see it. Everybody, and that includes Americans as well, knows that Israeli terrorism is sponsored by US taxpayer Dollars and until you see those Dollars dry up, don’t believe anything that the US says or does. And now, with our friendly dictators and Kings in the Middle East facing domestic revolts, Israel’s “friendship” (read: mass murder of Muslims) is even more important to the US than it ever was.

So, don’t put too much faith in this gesture, even if the gesture is made. Oh, we’ll get there eventually, but we’re not at that stage yet. Some people are just stupid that way.

What about all the shit that THEY are doing to destroy this nation??? Their lobbyists in Washington; AIPAC, et al….their money influence, aka,(the dreaded FED),…their corporate scams and infringements against the american people and our politicians…turning the left against the right….owning the mainstream media.

They are CEO´s of many american companies..DOMINATING ALMOST EVERY facet of THE american life, shaping our reality through “Hollywood´s” proposed reality, while indirectly dictating our conscientiousness and morality, turning the culture into a decaying type of mini series of the confused american patriot.

Resolving themselves within the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX and influencing political decisions to the tune of “Billions of dollars” for their War agendas. Revamping of how americans should be more Christian minded in order to preserve moral character and values, setting the parameters, while using extreme measures to ensure the desired outcome, aka…race, hatred and divisions based on ignorance of religion and other´s unliken to them selves.

This security council denunciation is but…fanfare, theatrics, a ploy, which doesn´t mean anything and will not go the political distance. These master´s of manipulation and trickery are working overtime to continually side step the american people´s interest and have all but captivated the american mind, (all that´s left of it), in a spiral of “spin” news disinformation and FEAR through various government purposed “Acts”.

And TeeVee and radio propagandists, who aspire to aid them in the dwindling away of freedom´s and to deplete optimism of those desiring fairness and transparency by our elected officials who took an oath to ALWAYS put the well being of the people first. But I still say this. If WE know all this….and many, many of US do, THEN WHEN ARE WE GOING TO START CALLING THEM OUT??!!! Time is not on our side!

Maybe we will finally address the root problem of the ME.
Ya they have bulldozers right with the tanks so as soon as they wrongfully take Palestinian land they are building on it Immediately. They never intended to give any land back. Makes perfect sense make the Indigenous Palestinians leave so that Holocaust survivors, Jewish Bolsheviks and other immigrants can have a home.

Israel never wanted peace,it was all but lies and we knew it, The Zionist project was a genocidal & a land grabbing enterprise, it has nothing to do with the sake of the Jewish people. the Zionists exploited the atrocities of the holocaust to steal a land for its original inhabitants.

Why not also cancel the 3.1 billion the Obama budget has planned for foreign aid to Israel also. This is ridiculous to be giving them money when we can’t even cover our own bills. Of course, it’s like most things Obama does. Say one thing and act like you’re taking the right steps then do just the opposite afterwords. Such posturing is typical of hypocrites and liars.

  • Fedupin10

Wow, I must say, I never thought I would see the day the USG would go this far. Of course, Israel will receive this much like Republicans receive Democrats strongly worded letters.

  • Anonymous

This is the sort of position we find the United States in when we elect an inexperienced, weak individual as President.

  • Anonymous

This timid step towards sanity, if actually made by the U.S. in the Security Council will help put the world on the road to peace in the M.E. Up to this point America has pretty much pursued a policy aimed at ensuring total Israeli dominance of the region and called that a road map for peace. But as everyone knows the only real basis for peace in the M.E. will be when both sides are treated absolutely equally. Only when we can say Israelis are no better in any way or more deserving in any way than the Palestinians, will peace be possible. This may sound bland, but it would be a tectonic shift in American policy which up to now has been biased in favor of one side and against the other.

  • Anonymous

God, I would hope so but we have been fooled so many times in the past. Another smoke and mirrors campaign on the “non-binding” resolution?

amazing! never thought i’d live to see the day! the US has vetoed over 70 such censors over the years; even when they were the lone vote against such censures.

doubt this signals any trend… but if it does… watch out. if israel gets ‘cornered cat syndrome’… they sit there with over 200 major nuclear bombs and could take out the world’s 200 largest urban regions on a whim some night when shimon or netanyahu reads too much moses…

but i’ve always wondered… where does israel think it can drop those bombs in its own neighborhood? last i knew, there’s this stuff called wind and these things called aquifers? might get to see if the chosen of god can also glow green?

Is it possible America has grown one testicle ?
And this comment shows the lack of the other testicle …
“But the US also intends to veto a stronger non-binding resolution by the 15-member body denouncing the Israeli settlements as “illegal.” The new language was part of a compromise put forth by Susan Rice, the US Ambassador to the UN.”

Imagine if Mexico started building settlements (colonies ) in America …how long would they get away with it ?

“It says the Security Council “condemns all forms of violence, including rocket fire from Gaza.,’ ” and censures Israel for building settlements in Palestinian territory.

So now the rocket fire and the building will stop? We could do an Iraq like “surge” and bribe both sides, which might be cheaper in the long run.

That is because the U.S. is beholden to the AIPAC necon lobby. Unbelievable how ONE group can completely dictate the foreign policy of the world’s only superpower. That said, kudos to Obama for at least “censuring” Israel…that’s more than any of our past president’s would have done.

Read the King-Crane Commission Report drafted concerning Zionism in Palestine.

    http://www.atour.com/government/un/20040205g.html

    The King-Crane report stated:

    *90% of Palestine’s inhabitants were non-Jewish & did NOT want a Jewish state in Palestine;

    * If they are given Palestine, “Zionists looked forward to a practically complete dispossession of the present non-Jewish inhabitants.”

*The King-Crane Commission said that a Jewish state in Palestine would violate the Palestinian Arabs’ right to self-determination. They recommended that Zionists respect the wishes of Palestine’s inhabitants & find another place to plant the Jewish state.

*”a national home for the Jewish people is not equivalent to making Palestine into a Jewish State.”

*”nor can the erection of such a Jewish State be accomplished without the gravest trespass upon the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.”

*”the initial claim, often submitted by Zionist representatives, that they have a ‘right’ to Palestine, based on an occupation of two thousand years ago, can hardly be seriously considered.”

*”The fact came out repeatedly in the Commission’s conference with Jewish representatives that the Zionists looked forward to a practically complete dispossession of the present non-Jewish inhabitants of Palestine.”

There use to be an old saying, “As GM goes, so goes America.” This is not true. As ISRAEL goes so goes America. Remember Genesis 12:3 “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” The day they split Jerusalem and give part the Palestine, whomever is involved with it will come sudden destruction them . It’s WW2 all over again, blame the Jews for everything, soon blame America, Christians, etc. Many of the American People are moving to the side of G_D and Support Israel (they have a right to Live). However, this is not true for out current Administration. Pray, Pray, Pray for our country. Hope, It is always darkest before the Dawn.

Only those who are God’s in the Spirit will be considered part of Israel. Those who were part of literal Israel have been severed from the true Vine and must be grafted back on by obedience to His word. This is the only way any of us can be… part of the true Israel, that Israel which will inherit the kingdom of God. No one who is just a literal Jew has rights to the kingdom unless, like everyone else, he becomes a spiritual Jew, also. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed , and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3: 26– 29.

So who is the legal owner? Please tell me what legal document do we refer to that names the legal owner of these lands? Before 1967, Jordan illegally occupied these lands. Jordan then attacked Israel while they(Jordan) were illegally occupying Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem. You might want to refer back to The British Mandate under the League of Nations, The San Remo Conference, 1922. This legal mandate has not changed. The truth is that 75% of the land that was mandated for the formation of the nation of Israel under The British Mandate was illegally carved out by the British to form what is now the nation of Jordan. The truth is that the Palestinians already have been given a homeland…it’s called Jordan.

The only time Israel liked the UN was when the International Community re-created Israel within a defined territory. Since then, Israel has given the International community the finger. The following image gives you some idea how far Israel has expanded beyond the Land assigned it for a Jewish homeland in 1947.

    http://whatreallyhappened.com/IMAGES/Israel_stealing_palestine.jpg

At the time of Jesus 2000 years ago, Israel had not existed for 1000 years. The area was known as Judea and Samara in the Roman Province of Palestine in the world of that time. The Jews dispersed throughout the world after the Romans destroyed the Temple at Jerusalem. Israel is a re-creation of the Bible.

President Obama is the 1st President to have the fortitude to call Israel out for consistently violating UN resolutions. They hate him already. To expand existing “settlements” and build new ones on the very land that is the subject of “Peace” negotiations is not a Peace or Trust builder, but brings the world closer the fulfillment of this 2000 year old prophecy,

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
    Revelation 16

Armageddon is derived from Har Mediggo which was located in the Roman Province of Palestine when The Revelation of Jesus Christ was given 2000 years ago. Today, Har Mediggo/Armageddon is located in the Occupied territories.

This revelation was given 600 years before Islam appeared in the world as the third ritual, traditional, man made religion to the God of Abraham.

The three unclean spirits, devils and false prophet are active in the three religions to the God of Abraham, that by the design of the author of History, all meet in Jerusalem Today, where Christ was crucified.

We are seeing History unfold before our very eyes as most of the people of earth stand on the sidelines. I’ve often envisioned the TV news networks show the incoming missiles and then sign off when they have so much power to educate the people to prevent it happening before the fact. The way it is, the media has to cater to the desire of the masses for amusement and entertainment instead of Nation building.

In my community, attributes such as scheming, manipulation and deceitfulness are not about intelligence or strength. They are adaptive strategies, about survival, and, they ultmiately do not serve the common good.

As I said, Obama is an inexperienced, weak President who is proving to be a disaster for the United Staes on the international stage.

About time, although it doesn’t go far enough. Of course, as long as we keep handing them money, why should they care WHAT we say? They’re still getting their cut of our tax dollars, after all.

    Hey, Devil, how ya doin’?

At least (for the first time in recorded history) they’re saying SOMEthing other than yassa, massa. Let’s hope this President starts weaning Israel off the American tit. It’s about time.

I thought it was President Obama’s fault. Isn’t everything?

You need to distinguish the real from the unreal. Yes, there are many Americans who hold dual citizenship with Israel. Yes, many Jews support the Israeli state. No, all Israelis are not hateful monsters who kill Palestinians daily. Many Israelis work with Palestinians on achieving a solution to the problem that we, the Anglo-American colonialists, set up in the ME. American (or British, or any other nation’s) Jews are not responsible for the policies of the State of Israel. Neither are Israelis. Although there are some Israelis who are very hateful indeed, judging them all by the acts of those few would be like judging all Americans by the acts of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

Yeah, Here´s something to ponder if what this verse is referring to is true then who are the real israel-ites of the “the book”? the “good book” also states that these same “israel-ites not Israelis´s ” would be delivered into bondage (for not following the “law”), in to a land which is not theirs and there they would toil that land and bear the yolk of the bondsman for four hundred years (four generations), and which after that prophesy has been fulfilled, then shall the lord return to punish the inhabitants of the land for the sins against israel (his chosen people, aka the lost sheep of the tribe of judah), and himself.

this is what i can remember, but NOT the actual bible reference. so, what people is this reference speaking of?. i know that today´s “jews” have never been in this type of historical situation.

The latest news tip is that the US will veto the resolution.

Eric Cantor’s promise to Bibi Nethanyahu still stands. The tail is still in charge.

Amazing we can give them so much money and not take care of ourselves and Americans.

I quoted nothing from that website, and I just looked at it now after your comment. I only used the picture which I found in a Google image search for illustration purposes.

Every comment is my own. If you have any objection to the historical facts, spell them out. But you can’t because they’re historically accurate. All you can do is squirm and make a blanket smear.
