Florida State Sen. Greg Evers (R) wants weapons allowed on campus because “it’s just a good idea that people be allowed to carry firearms wherever they feel the necessity to protect themselves.”

Florida’s Senate’s Criminal Justice Committee was considering the controversial bill Tuesday when Robert Cowie, whose daughter was killed last month at a fraternity house when an AK-74, accidentally discharged, delivered an unexpected appeal to halt the legislation, leaving many lobbyists in tears.

Senator Greg Evers thought his story was “moving,” but still plans to push for the bill.
