Late on Friday afternoon, former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann tweeted that his online “FOKNewsChannel” would begin operations tonight.

Around 3 PM EST, Olbermann posted, “Bulletin: FOKNewsChannel site, humble and presumably bug-ridden though it may be, goes live tonight. Puhhhhhhrobably. #FOK”

At just past 9 PM, a follow-up post announced, “Greetings, Earthlings: my website/blog FOKNewsChannel.Com will go live at 9:30 PM Eastern this evening.”

As it happened, however, Olbermann’s new blog site appeared a few minutes earlier than promised, with three sections — an extended editorial on “Wisconsin and ‘The Union,’” a section of “Snappy Answers to Stupid Headlines,” and “Worst Persons of the Day.”

In the first long piece, Olbermann reminisces about the job he held at “a strict union shop” when he was just out of college and how “the Wire Service Guild union was there when I really needed them and their pain-in-the-ass rules and the foremost of them was the boss couldn’t just fire somebody for being a pain-in-the-ass.”

“Don’t be expecting too much of my technical expertise here,” Olbermann had cautioned in one tweet earlier in the day. “Remember, I started my career on manual typewriters.”

Olbermann’s new venture was first announced a month ago. As reported by Mediaite on January 29:

“These days, of course, Olbermann’s perhaps best known as the “The Proprietor” of a new Twitter-based news organization called the “FOK News Channel.’ At least, he’s been billing himself that way since, well, yesterday. … The sidelined star added a second Twitter account ahead of Tuesday’s State of the Union address, dubbing it ‘FOKNewsChannel’ and quickly attracting more than 18,000 followers (or ‘Friends of Keith,’ hence FOK). According to the account’s bio line, FOKNews can be described this way: ‘Smokestacks Belching News On Twitter Since January 2011.’

“In a message to the account’s followers Tuesday evening, Olbermann wrote: ‘Later after the Society of Irresponsible People meets and we decide how best to use this for deviltry and mayhem, look out.’”

A really tiny point, perhaps…. but I’d have preferred that they’d have pluralized FOK, so that it was “FOKs News.”

Maybe they couldn’t get legal clearance, though.

Really? The Godaddy landing page? That means hosting isn’t even set up. At least get some hosting and an index file with a logo and twitter/facebook links, geez. Amateur.

He already said that any similarity to FOK’s (his version of the possessive case of FOK (not FOKs which I also prefer), which I guess he is entitled to, since he coined the word) to FOX is purely coincidental as FOK stands for “Friends of Keith” and presumably FOK’s stands for “Friends of Keith’s” so you have to admit that his version conforms to good grammar rules (I think).

I like FOKs better because I would pronounce that “fox” whereas I’d pronounce FOK’s as “foxes” which is also good, actually, but for a different reason. LOL

FOK News Channel has a ring to it, though, doesn’t it?
I love Keith. platonically and rhetorically only, of course.

Thank God there are people like Keith or the world would go out of balance due to the collective fat asses of Rush and Beck alone.

If we miss it live, we all know RawStory will post the video.

McLean, Virginia — I was hoping to see some information about Keith Olbermann’s new endeavor, but (as others have noted) all I see is the Godaddy landing page. I wish him luck and look forward to seeing him online.

  • Rabid_Liberal

‘Bout damn time! MSNBC hasn’t been the same since Olbermann left (fired?). But I still love to watch Rachel Maddow and to a lesser extent, Ed Schultz and Lawrence O’Donnell, but those two shows are still worth watching.

A proper name to pay Tribute to MSNBC would have been FOK OFF news. I wish Olberman the best of luck with his new Channel.

Methinks Olbermann jumped the gun on his announcement!

Welcome back, KO! I can’t wait to see your first postings!

    Give ‘em hell!

  • Anonymous

Yes, but anyone who mistypes foxnewschannel.com as foknewschannel.com gets Keith instead of the propaganda channel. Besides, it sounds faintly like f*ck news channel, which is probably what KO thinks of the propaganda channel anyway.

Hey, the guy said he started out on a manual typewriter–as did the rest of us in his age group. Lighten up….

  • Guest

Hope so. I can’t watch it live because I ain’t got no pitcher box here at the home place.

Once the site is ready for visitors it won’t ask for a password. I guess we’ll just have to be patient.

You could be in a coma for twenty years and if the tv is on when your eyes opened, I guarantee you would have seen it before.

I really like Keith and watched him regularly on MSNBC. Even though I listen to Big Eddie about 3 days a week (when he’s there which is becoming more & more rare as he struggles with stretching himself to thin) I rarely watch Eddie on TV. MSNBC f’d up in my opinion.
Didn’t realize how much I missed ol’ Keith’s writing style until reading his spankin’ new posting at http://foknewschannel.com

He hasn’t missed a beat. C’mon Keith, just hook up Skype & you’re good to go, we can forego the fancy graphics for now.

Well there is a God after all, yeah Keith!!!

Agreed. I just visited Keith’s new site, and came away informed and chuckling. And like you said, Keith could do web video in one way or another, until he starts appearing on Current TV in the late spring, but I’m just grateful to hear his insightful, sane, reality-based and incisive-wit voice once again, even if on a website posting without graphics. A commentary, headlines’ fun and a worlds worst segment… great.

    He’s great!

What is his psychiatric-disordered obsession with Fox news? Can’t he just stand on his own? It’s as if he has no life other than to be anti-fox. It’s a freakin cable opinion/news channel among a hundred or so. Without fox, the poor little man would be working at McDonalds! He should wake up every day thanking Rupert Murdoch that he still has a paycheck.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TX3MXXPF52BXCKGNLDNPADILPQ paul rogers

Yeah, parents are so dumb. They don’t have any idea what life is all about.

  • http://twitter.com/VaginaHedgeFund Lloyd Blankfein

Pffft… and thats the last we’ll hear of Olbermann.

He’ll always be in Amy Goodman’s shadow.. because he’s a clown, not a journalist.

  • Anonymous

No, he could have stayed at ESPN, but they went Nazi. He could have done like Dan Patrick with a TV/radio
show, maybe monday night football. he can stand on his own, paul, even if his website was called
    elmerfudd.com.

Remember when Bush was in office and Olbermann actually did good work? Oh, how I long for those days.

I dunno… was TV 20 years ago really as bad as “American Idle” and “reality” shows?

    (Yeah, probably…)

    Wow, Keith fell hard.

Keith: We miss you so much.

So you’d pronounce John’s as johnses?

Go Keith! Let’s see if you can siphon some of Fox’s audience away, and actually educate some of those sadly misinformed people.

    I’ve already forgotten Keith.

I really liked watching Kieth and Rachel and wanted to watch the Young Turks.
The only problem is this – I must watch them over the internet. I live in the very heart of the Russian Federation and there is NO TV reception for these programs. I have very good DSL and watched Kieth before he was thrown away by MSNBC.

Can anyone post the internet addresses for Kieth, Rachel and the Young Turk’s programs??

I would appreciate this very very much!

  • Anonymous

    Do you have this? http://foknewschannel.com/
You could probably search YouTube for more stuff and look for links from there? Google… etc.
Shouldn’t be too difficult. Good Luck!

  • JimmyJagov

    Yeah-That’ll happen.

  • Anonymous

I just looked at it. It IS Keith! And it tells us why MSNBC, for all its talent like Maddow, has lost its edge.

  • SouthernYankee

Is that Cenk’s permanent spot know or is he filling in?

  • SouthernYankee

Thanks I am going to head over there now.

  • H.P. Loathecraft

Don’t know. I don’t get MSNBC at home, I know him from the Young Turks on the former Air America.

  • Busto

    ‘Bout friggin’ time!!!

  • Anonymous

    No.

Yeah, they can be. My mother was a FAUX-WATCHER. Stopped speaking to her only child in 1974 because she was gay. She died alone in 2008. She didn’t have any idea what life was about.

Cheers to Keith – One sharp cool MoFo – Who can’t be bought (as he told Bill Maher when Maher asked…Keith replied”I have enough money —-I would never change and say things for money or for anything else”)…Unlike all the filthy lying greedy republicans at Fox whore “news” !

I hope Olbermann makes a go of it, he’s obviously not doing it for the bucks (he walked away from a four to seven million dollars a year MSNBC contract and certainly would of made much more at contract renewal time)!

KO is a great thinking man’s progressive (watch out lying, jealous regressives) KO dry razor sharp wit, that I sincerely miss – Hurry up Keith!
