Wisconsin lawmakers approved a rule change on Wednesday that would allow them to close the State Capitol building over the weekend and eject the protesters who have been camping there for the last week.

The new restrictions on items and sleeping areas within the Capitol were to go into effect at 4 PM on Friday, and the protesters were to be removed from state offices and hearing rooms after business hours on Saturday.

The head of Wisconsin’s Professional Police Association, however, not only opposes the plan but has called on police to join the sleep-in. According to a posting at Dane101, a Madison area blog network, WPPA Executive Director Jim Palmer has asked Governor Scott Walker to keep the building open and allow the protesters to remain.

“The law enforcement officers from across the state that have been working at the Capitol and have been very impressed with how peaceful everyone has been,” Palmer stated. “As has been reported in the media, the protesters are cleaning up after themselves and have not caused any problems. The fact of that matter is that Wisconsin’s law enforcement community opposes Governor Walker’s effort to eliminate most union activity in this state, and we implore him to not do anything to increase the risk to officers and the public.”

Palmer also announced that the WPPA is asking its members from across the state to join the protests, explaining, “Law enforcement officers know the difference between right and wrong, and Governor Walker’s attempt to eliminate the collective voice of Wisconsin’s devoted public employees is wrong. That is why we have stood with our fellow employees each day and why we will be sleeping among them tonight.”

Palmer also noted that many police officers have already been participating in the protests in civilian clothes after providing security in their official function. “We may not have a big group but we’re going to try to have a presence just the same,” he stated. “Who knows, maybe I’ll be there by myself.”

The Wisconsin Police are my Heroes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good for Jim Palmer! Maybe he should run for Governor!!! He seems to be an honorable man who understands and supports unions and the middle class. Walker on the other hand doesn’t seem to understand the very basics of this country! America runs on the backs of the middle class! The Unions have given the country the American Dream! Walker has aligned himself with the wrong group and the promises of power and money has blinded him. He obviously has lost the ability to think logically and is guided by his inflated ego and his greed!

Is this sounding more and more like Egypt? First the People, then the “authorities” joining in. When will Walker realize he is now Hosni Mubarack and it’s only a matter of time.. What does he want, the Nat’l Guard to turn on him too? Then the United States will impose sanctions and block all trade with Wisconsin… (boycott by the Citizens, like Arizona)

Since the Packers are owned by common people with stock, I would send out a press release that they will not play next season: FUCK YOU. You goddamned NFL freaks will be worse off than heroin addicts, “waiting for the man, with twenty dollars in your hand” , not getting their fix. Maslow’s Triangle tells you the damn tickets for football are way up the triangle. At near bottom you have unemployed 99er’s. At the bottom you have “Smokey-The-Bear” telling you that if you toss a lit butt out your window it will take out the forest. For example, milk and bread cannot be expensive for people who have nothing. If it is, the people coming out into the streets are not coming out to kill, they are coming out to be killed. And they have nothing to lose..as wrote about in the book “Regulating The Poor: The Functions of Public Welfare”, by Pixen/Cloward.

Over night this rat bastard, basically, has thrown thousands of lit “butts” out the window and just how many will blow out and how many will ignite we will soon know.

Sorry I am a union member and the company i work for is worldwide and based here in the states, they make a profit every year only managers are not union. The company always offer raises every time plus a pension plan and bonus. When the union counter offers its funny how in 26 years I have been there we never had a strike, and I only pay $18.00 a week for a very very nice health care vision and dental plan. $20.00 co-pay $10.00 for RX.

To the people who think that unions have destroyed this country, think again, and pull your heads out of your asses, you got it backwards…The corporations, since the late 70′s have been slowly destroying the living wage by destroying unions, think, NAFTA. It is to the credit of the unions that people who work in the private sector are able, sometimes to receive a living wage. I think our American society needs a refresher course on unions since you can be sure that the last generation or so knows so little about it because they are not taught about it.

  • Guest

Yo…Taxedtodeath! STFU! Your programming that unions are bad is showing. Can’t help it you work at Walmart or somewhere similar and don’t have the nuts to organize. Jealousy is an ugly color on you.

  • Anonymous

Do you want to eliminate military pensions too? Do you want to label our vets drawing a pension a bunch of crooks too? Do you think our vets are overpaid? Are you angry they get “free” health care? They retire earlier than most working people too. And teachers are NOT overpaid – but they do have their hands tied by right wing conservative idiots controlling state school boards.

If you enjoy anything like a 40 hour, 5 day work week, with benefits like paid holidays and sick leave, decent working conditions, you need to get down on your hands and knees and thank unions. I am fed up with you right wingers trashing honest workers trying to make a decent living in this country. All you conservatives do is whine about how “oppressed” rich people are. “Oh, we can’t raise taxes on the wealthy or on corporations, they create jobs.” BULLSHIT! Jobs are created when there is a demand from goods and services, and that demand comes from the middle class – which includes union workers!

  • Anonymous

So that’s the fault of the people who still have jobs and are in unions? How stupid are you? Look at your screen name. “Taxed to death”, my ass. Americans are among the least taxed on earth and unless you’re making over $50,000 a year you’re not paying ANY taxes at all other than FICA and Medicare. As to the rate you’re paying, it’s still very, very low. People are out of jobs because even though there has been an economic turnaround and businesses are beginning to flourish again they’re requiring their workers to do the work of two or three people rather than hire anyone. Many are openly flouting overtime regs. People who have jobs are being worked to death at much lower salaries and since they are being paid salaries and not wages (another little trick of the companies) they are not entitled to overtime. Other people are being hired at 35 hours per week and the companies’ rules won’t let them have any benefits unless they’re “full time”, which if they work 35 hours then they’re technically not – therefore, no bennies.

Do you know how much the federal government collected in revenues in recent years from corporations in this country? Thirteen percent. They contribute only 13% of the revenue stream. Back in the 60s it was more like 40%.

Who the hell are you? Are you rich? Or are you one of these delusional Tea Partiers who thinks that he should be grateful to get his little pittance and proudly acknowledges the fact that he’ll have to work till he dies because he’s got no pension and his piddly-ass 401K went south when the economy imploded?

  • tehamawhiteneck

Serving the public, not the right wing. Good Job.

  • Ed Dominguez

Sorry as a teamster my contact with the company does not cost one cent to the state or federal budget. So it might affect you return on stock but you still get a return, and I get my raise, pension. The unions got you time and a half on 8 plus hrs. I can have sick days to wait for the repair man with out the fear of being fired.

No the unions didn’t destroy America, big business did. Look around at all the closed factories that once employed well paid middle class workers. Where have these people gone? To the unemployment lines or just given up. Profit beyond all else is no way to run a country. With out the unions, big business had no reason to share the wealth and you are now seeing the sad results. The 2% is fat, warm, and happy while they watch us commoners struggle.

  • Anonymous

I’m gettin’ all misty thinking about those poor, poor, corporations. Mercy.

  • Anonymous

So much for honoring the sanctity of the contract. It’s too bad you right wingers want to renege on contracts – you should be ashamed of yourselves. What is going on in WI isn’t about deficits – if those Republicans hadn’t passed a bunch of tax cuts for businesses, they wouldn’t have the shortfall they are trying to piggyback this onto. What is going on in WI is an attempt to bust unions and drive down wages. You guys won’t be happy until you’ve turned the U.S.A. into a Third World country. It’s disgusting.

Before you start spewing your crap you should know [obvious you are completely ignorant] that people fought and died organizing the unions. The manufacturing moguls weren’t to keen on sharing their profits. The Unions fought and got child labor laws, a living wage and job security, health benefits, vacations and vacation pay, maternity leave, safety regulations the list goes on and if you don’t work in a union shop you still benefited. The unions are what gave this country the American Dream. This country runs on the backs of the middle class NOT the rich. So instead of listening to faux news and the anti union rhetoric spewed by them turn off your TV and read. You are a freaking moron and your lack of knowledge and boorish mentality proves it.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_V5XKDORJ6HIVIZ6V5OTK76KTEY Immortal

Blaming unions is like blaming the chicken because you got salmonella poisoning from eating uncooked chicken. You got salmonella because the cook was incompetent, not because the chicken didn’t take a bath before dying. The union worker, for the most part, is just trying to do a good job and get some kind of compensation for doing that job. If compensation for doing a good job is wrong, then profit (up to five hundred times more per annum compared to the “average annual salary”) for doing nothing more than pushing a pencil, if even that, is not only wrong, it is immoral. Immorality is suffered by history, sometimes for long periods, but quenching the thirst for morality often is a brutish and nasty process, so don’t claim surprise when it happens.

  • grandpatimbo

Viva La Revolution! Is common sense and reality returning to the country at last?
Are we going to finally see working people standing together against the forces of corporate tyranny? Praise God that the Wisconsin Police have realized that we are all in this together.

If the tax payers are broke perhaps we shouldn’t have extended the damn bush tax cuts to the wealthy. Maybe we should end the wars that bush said would be good for our economy! I was a government worker and I paid into my pension just like everyone else. I worked hard for my pay and I resent you saying because a person works for the government they get a free ride! I think your jealous, a jerk and a faithful faux news watcher and limbaugh worshipper. Go away.

  • Anonymous

    Your an idiot.

  • grandpatimbo

you really are a simpleminded fuck. Apparently you flunked social studies 101 and don’t have a freaking clue who keeps things running. Without unions and their sacrifices for working people, you would still be working a 7 day 90 hour or so work week with no benefits or job safety. Would you like doing that? Keep destroying unions and that opportunity will rise again for you. I usually don’t wish anyone ill but in your case, whatever misfortunes happen to befall you are deserved. BTW, I am retired, pay taxes and have been financially independent since age 50 but will never cross a picket line and attempt to always buy Union Made. Somehow I have managed to prosper and am now enjoying the RV lifestyle 6 months or so of each year in a luxury 40 ft motorhome, own a nice home in Washington State and another on the Oregon Coast. I collect social security but donate it back to charities and UNION CAUSES. Unions made the middle class in this country and anyone who fails to realize that has nothing but shit for brains.

  • grandpatimbo

That is absolute crap!!! You lame ass republican actually believe this crap!!!!! Big business has been chipping away at the unions since the 70′s! It isn’t the wages that have the corporations moving their companies overseas it’s freakin greed by the ceo’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They wanted more and more and more! They didn’t want to have to pay a living wage or be bothered with all those pesky regulations and environmental laws. You think the union workers are draining our country? NOT FIGHTING/STANDING UP TO EVIL IS THE ABANDONMENT OF GOOD

There are only radical and MORE radical APPEARING Republicon leaders.

The purpose of the existence of the MORE radical teabaggers, the Glenn Becks, the Michelle Bachmanns, the Steve Kings and the Scott Walkers is to make the radical Republicon neocons; the Bill O’Reillys, the Mitt Romneys, the Tom Coburns, the Mike Huckabees and the Rick Perrys APPEAR to be REASONABLE by COMPARISON, when they are in FACT Republicon radicals to their very cores. As a result, compromising with Republicons pushes inept/weak/non-confrontational Democrats like Obama further and further to the RIGHT…so much so that liberals and progressives stayed home during the 2010 midterm elections because Obama ALLOWED himself to be PUSHED to the RIGHT in the name of PRAGMATISM!?

Abandoning and or compromising away liberal/progressive/Democratic values/principles is not progress; it’s getting in bed with/validating evil.

When the choices are compromising with “pure evil” or with “mostly evil”, the principled choice should be not to compromise at all because any compromise with evil is the abandonment of good. And not fighting/standing up to evil IS the abandonment of good. Every seemingly “small” compromise with today’s Republicons is an insidious movement from the light to the dark side of morality….and Obama isn’t opposing it; he’s facilitating it.

Just one question: If you were taxed to death, how is it that you are still posting here?

    Hyperbole much?

    Liar!

You just said you and the people in your county are “awesome” so “the rest of the population is [absolutely not] either broke or out of a job” or you have been lying about how “awesome” you and your neighbors are doing. It can’t be both, which is it?

And one other thing, the CEOs and Wall Street types have gotten huge bonuses this year for turning more free government money into free profits. I don’t hear you complaining about them ripping you off, and I don’t read of you even mentioning them in all you posts here. I guess they don’t count in your world of middle class scapegoats, but they have all had huge raises and none of them are out of a job.

Gov. Koch understands exactly what he and the other Repub governors are doing. They are crushing state employee unions because their on-the-ground GOTV efforts cost them dearly in the last election and they can’t afford to lose in 2012. You don’t like unions? Find a free country that doesn’t have them.

That’s simply the most ridiculous statement I’ve heard in a long, long time: the unions destroyed this country. I can’t believe anyone could say such a dumb thing out loud. How, pray tell, did unions destroy America. I mean even if you’re dumb one would think that slavery destroyed America or genocide destroyed America or the South destroyed America, or Republicans, or the Bushes or Reagan or, as I already said, all Republicans, and now more recently Democrats, or Rehnquist, Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, Alito, illegal wars of aggression, US military control over foreign and domestic policy, wealth inequities, hatred, violence, bigotry, crime, wall street, criminals, corporations or NAFTA destroyed America, but you cling to the notion that unions have destroyed America. You probably make a lot of money and are dumb as Lawrence Kudlow.

Because, like most Tea Partiers, while you pay lip service to the Constitution, the only thing you actually like about it is the 2nd Amendment. And you couldn’t even quote that correctly without a copy in front of you.

The REST of that document is anathema to you and your ilk. It goes against virtually everything you really believe. Freedom — of speech, expression, the press, from harassment by government, the right to due process…

If people like you actually got the world you think you want, you’d be crying in your beds for your mothers by sundown of the first day of that New World Order. Because, whether you realise it or not (and of course, you don’t, your myopia competes with your palpable ignorance, that much is clear), that world would be a dystopic nightmare that could compete any day with the fictions created by imaginations of any ideological stripe.

Teachers are not greedy. Many teachers have to work a part time job just to make ends meet. I agree we should go after corporations, but I don’t understand how teachers, police, and fire fighters are stealing from you. Most teachers give every ounce of energy to their kids, and it does take a lot of work. We are confronted with kids that have a lot more on their plate than being prepared for the working world. They come from all walks of life with every issue you can imagine.
Iowa has proposed that teachers will not have a two year salary freeze, an increase in health care payments, I now pay $525.00 dollars per month. It has also been proposed that with the lay off of teachers coming, teachers will have no say in how these lay off’s will take place. In other words teachers will have no voice in any part of their job. With out any pay raises and the cost of living on the rise, I will in effect, being taking a pay cut. How is that greedy? I have to apply for a new license every five years and I have paid thousands of dollars to do that out of pocket. How am I a scum bag and a greedy person?

If current fiscal policy is destroying the American working class, YOU DON”T ASK FOR MORE OF THE SAME. Breaking whats left of the unions isn’t going to help the rest of this country’s workers, it will allow the bar to sink even lower.

You are terribly naive if you think the problems with the fed and state economies have anything to do with how much government workers get paid. Get a clue, dude. The only reason their incomes have even been brought to the table is to avoid having to fix the REAL problems…catering to special intrests and corporations. Gov’t employee wages and pensions is a microscopic problem compared what is really going on. You have misplaced your hatred and anger toward average everyday middle class Americans.

You get what you pay for. If our officers did not receive excellent compensation, professional training, good equipment, etc, then they would not be nearly as professional as they are. Let’s look at a police force like the one you envision- how about Mexico? Down there, the police force is underpaid, poorly trained and dressed like rag-bags (in comparison). And corrupt as hell. If you get pulled over by an officer in Mexico, you’d better have a twenty to slip him- or you risk spending time in Mexican prison. Or kidnapped for a drug cartel. Or just beat up.

Not that public workers have it as great as you are making it out to be, but the reason they have all those benefits is because governments agreed to give it to them.

Say I’m a private employer who offers you a job. We negotiate a contract that says you work for me 20 years after which you get a pension for life. You accept, work 20 years, retire, and start collecting on that pension. But I’ve done a lousy job managing my finances, and while your pension won’t sink me, I could do a whole lot better if I didn’t have to pay it.

Would it be fair of me to say that by taking the pension, that you are “stealing” from me?

Of course not. You worked 20 years and upheld your part of the deal. You are entitled to that pension.

So, rather than beat upon the people who only took what they negotiated and worked their end of the deal, why not direct your anger at the state governments who made those deals, which they might be able to afford if they hadn’t thrown away billions of dollars through wasteful spending and slashing taxes.

No, I don’t think it is about raises. This bill is 177 pages long and includes all kinds of benefits for the koch bros. and the rich. It is an effort to break the unions which, in the last election, the unions were the top 4 contributors to the Democratic party. Weaken or break the union weakens the democrats. The bill allows no bid contracts for power plants that the koch bros. are so sure they are going to get they have already placed ads for hiring their employees at said plants. If passed this bill will impact the states medicaid and myriad of other social programs as well as more benefits for that dynamic duo the koch bros. It isn’t about the raises it’s a step further in destroying the middle class and closer to a complete dictatorship. The republicans hate America And Americans. There is a poster on this thread. That poster is going by the name of Taxedtodeath1.

The poster is claming that union is the cause of our current economic problems. The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission has released their findings. There is no mention of unions causing this problem.

What Raw Readers should be careful of is this. The Republicans won last election on distortions of the issues and they are not about to stop distorting the facts.

Wisconsin is nothing more than a test ground to distort the facts. This distortion of facts is to rewrite the Bush Jr Republican controlled government years into a big lie that Unions caused the economic meltdown. That is a lie if there ever was one.

All over the world in the developed countries the government is asking those who did NOT cause the meltdown to sacrifice. Austerity policies is being pushed to make those who did not cause the crash to pay the price. Does anyone remember how John Boehner and the U.S Chamber of Commerce suggested that the U.S tax payers pay for the Gulf Oil Crisis? Well that is how Republicans sees it. The rich creates a world economic catastrophe but pays no price for it, only the little people have to pay the price.

This study I mentioned, the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, has anyone noticed the media never mentioned it. Why is that? It’s not a good time to mention it when a union busting effort is being pushed is it?

You can download the report right here: http://www.fcic.gov/report

Taxedtodeath1 is not a trusted source. Read the report. The real reason for our mess in the country is. deregulations, toxic loans, derivatives scams, to big to fail, the list goes on. The reasons are all there and none of those reasons mentions Unions.

The Republican bullshit machine is conning everyone again, as long as the bullshit works there is no incentive for the Republicans to stop the bullshit.

  • ComradeRutherford

TaxedToDeath is a great example of the last 35 years of intentional misinformation by our media, at the direction of the American ruling class.

Back in the 1950s private employers used to have similar employment plans as today’s civic employees. Income taxes on the obscenely wealthy were a respectable 90% and income taxes on corporations were a mere 38%. Capital gains taxes were 50%. America was at it’s most powerful.

Since then the greed of the ruling class has been engaged in a low level class war against the America people to the point that they have transferred the profits to only themselves instead of sharing with the employees that actually DO the work.

CEOs used to have modest incomes, now they are grossly out of proportion. All that extra money is money that used to go to their employees. Companies used to have modest profits, now anything less than 300% growth every quarter is considered a failure.

What has happened is cost shifting. It would not cost more for a company to pay a living wage to their employees, it just means the CEOs would have a little less. This is simply greed on the part of the CEOs.

Today, our civic employees have what the private sector used to have pre-Reagan, but have no longer after the success of the class war went into high gear in 1981.

Instead of striving to fight the class war of the CEOs against We, The People, the propagandists in America have re-trained some citizens to nurse their jealousy and seek to tear down those employees that still do have what every American worker deserve to and should have: a decent living.

Hence we have TaxedToDeath1 attacking the last few middle class Americans that have what he also should have. The big question is how to get propagandized Americans to fight FOR the Middle Class instead of for the CEOs, as Taxed To Death is doing here.

(Footnote: TaxedToDeath does say in posts below that they are happy to fight CEO greed, but they are conflating private/public sectors as two completely distinct entities, when in fact they are closely linked. What this commenter is missing is that the message is: restore what the civic employees have back to the private sector, not to tear down the public sector as well. TaxedToDeath is doing the work of the Koch brothers: fighting the class war against the Middle Class on the side of the obscenely wealthy, instead of fighting for the very existence of a middle class. If you are NOT on the Koch brother’s side you should be out today at the nationwide labor demonstrations!)

Agree with you about Taxedtodeath1 and your comments.

Here is something buried in the bill that should have every taxpayer protesting Walker and his financers.

    (thanks to GINANDTACOS.COM)
The lion’s share of attention regarding Scott Walker’s legislative proposal has been paid to the effort to revoke Wisconsin public employees’ collective bargaining rights, but the 144-page bill (more reliable link here) is a far more exhaustive and inclusive list of the fundamentals of Republican politics in the 21st Century. Not many people have the time to plow through the whole bill but those who do will be rewarded with plenty of gems like this:

16.896 Sale or contractual operation of state−owned heating, cooling, and power plants. (1) Notwithstanding ss. 13.48 (14) (am) and 16.705 (1), the department may sell any state−owned heating, cooling, and power plant or may contract with a private entity for the operation of any such plant, with or without solicitation of bids, for any amount that the department determines to be in the best interest of the state. Notwithstanding ss. 196.49 and 196.80, no approval or certification of the public service commission is necessary for a public utility to purchase, or contract for the operation of, such a plant, and any such purchase is considered to be in the public interest and to comply with the criteria for certification of a project under s. 196.49 (3) (b).

If this isn’t the best summary of the goals of modern conservatism, I don’t know what is. It’s like a highlight reel of all of the high-flying slam dunks of neo-Gilded Age corporatism: privatization, no-bid contracts, deregulation, and naked cronyism. Extra bonus points for the explicit effort to legally redefine the term “public interest” as “whatever the energy industry lobbyists we appoint to these unelected bureaucratic positions say it is.”

Our economic decay closly mirrors the decline of unions over the last 50 years as well as our ever increasing military budget and the influence of money in our govement. Time for fair elections and reversing the supreme court decision on corporations having the same rights as people.

See here my little friend, I will not be lectured by someone who has never served his country as to what you think “I deserve.” I feel grateful for my retirement, but I don’t certainly feel as if I deserve it. Parts of my career were very dangerous, but most of it was much safer than what most police and firefighters face on a daily basis.

You have no basis from which to even make this assessment, since you have no experience in this arena.

A true patriot serves his/her country in some capacity…whether it’s at the local level as a teacher, police officer, firefighter, etc, or at the Federal level as I did.

What kind of life is it working for minimum wage with no health insurance or
other benefits? Lincoln freed the slaves 150 years ago and you fuckbrains
want a return to those days? I am not stealing anyone’s money but I would
love to steal any that you claim to have. Odds are that you are a Walmart
flumky who will never amount to shit and adopt some fantasy personna on
here. Just what exactly did you do to be able to retire at 26? That whole
thing sounds like bullshit to me. Great idea, retire at 26 and contribute
nothing to the economy that you claim to have allowed you to retire. There
is something intrinsicaly deficient in someone who does not want to work and
contribute at that age. My bet is that if you were able to do that, you were
a drug dealer or running some other type of scam really ripping people off.
BTW, I pay far more out in taxes each year than I collect in either SS or
Medicare benefits, paid for advanced college education for my hard working
three children and have substantial education accounts established for my
six grandchildren, donate heavily to my church and other worthwhile causes
and do volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity. So what have you done for
    anyone else shithead?.

I really don’t think you should be sharing your opinions here you closed minded twat. If you knew anything about our tax system you wouldn’t be saying any of this made up bs. I highly doubt that your town has little crime due to all the gun toting red necks; actually, time and again, it has been proven that more weapons equates to more violence. And the fact that you’re okay with just shooting someone dead who robs you is disgusting. You have no respect for life. The law is supposed to handle the punishment of criminals.

Unions do not rob the tax payer. It’s corporations that are robbing tax payers. The top 10% pay little taxes as opposed to those in the middle and lower tax brackets because they can write off their 2nd and 3rd houses, their private education for their children, their business expenses, etc. There are so many loopholes it’s ridiculous. On top of that, Corporations have gotten away with paying less than 30% of what they should owe. And! Even worse, the majority of taxes you pay don’t go to unions. No they go to the Military Industrial Complex, and the emptied SS account that our Govt has dipped in to to pay off these wars, etc.

You are probably one of the most selfish people on this planet. You think you’re entitled to anything? That’s complete bullshit. The point of CIVILIZED society is to bolster each other up not blame people for putting their hands in your pockets. The pathetic thing is, instead of helping the people who actually need this like union workers, you’re protecting the people who DON’T need it like Corporate employees who are working HARD to rip apart the middle class and turn America into a Feudalist society. Just wait until that happens to you dick wad.

By the way, if you’re so anti-union. Think about this. Hitler quickly dismantled unions after he became leader, which turned Germany into a Fascist state. Looks like YOU are a Fascist.

UPS is a corporation. UPS corporate office takes your money not those working for the company. Unless you mean USPS, which is a government run entity. And actually those people are getting laid off left and right; post offices are closing everywhere; and they are not overpaid, they are in danger of losing their livelihood.

The economy has already tanked you moron. You actually think this is getting better? We’re in a Depression and no one wants to admit it! People are losing their jobs, they are losing their homes, they are losing everything and the REASON you ignorant piece of dung is because of Corporations praying on people and taking advantage of them. Unions didn’t make this economy what it is now; Corporate influence has. And your friend Bush shares a big part of that responsibility.

  • Anonymous

You just said Govt workers steal tax payer money so shouldn’t that include our representatives?

By the way, you’re retired and almost ready for SS which means you will be taking from tax payers. We’ve been working longer than you and you’ll sit on your fat ass and take money from hard workers who deserve it more than you.

Of course unions in the private sector have been going down for years
because if a corporation can pay someone in China $2.00 a day instead of
paying an american a living wage, where do you think the corporation is
going to do business, this as a result of destructive government policies?
Corporations are the greedy ones and getting greedier by the day. Right
now they have the backing of Washington via lobbyists which pressure for for
all the policies to support their demanded by their stockholders profit
margins, it’s all about numbers, which would explain how shabbily
corporations treat their employees these days. The “people” have unions.
Everybody needs representation in a so called representational democracy,
unfortunately, representation is tilted much more in favor of corporations.
I think you might want to look a little deeper than the sounds bites
    supplied by mainstream media.

If unions didn’t fight for people’s labor rights in this country, you too
would be working for $2.00 a day and at the rate we’re going, with
corporations sitting on 1.5 trillion dollars and refusing to hire american
workers and at the same time driving the living wage down, you just may get
    your wish.

The union does not own the rental car company but they staff it. So do most 5 star hotels are union staffed. By the way the union unloads all the ships in every port so how do you get you goods on ebay you can thank a union person to unload that ship. And the railroads that ship that package so you do a damm good job avoiding doing any thing that the union takes part of. You get mail right federal union job. so keep avoiding the union on those paved streets on our tax dollars.

“I still look at RE all the time, between the school taxes here, the cops, firemen and the rest of the gov workers here most cities and towns are broke or holding off broke, lol.”

    Clearly NOT a Christian.

Civic employees are NOT the reason property taxes are so high. Property taxes are high because the CEO class no longer pays income taxes. The wealthy have stopped paying their fair share of the cost of having a First World nation. The class war has succeeded in shifting the cost of society from the obscenely wealthy that can easily afford it to YOU. They are making you pay for their share of having a civilization at all.

Your anger is misplaced. Focus on getting the obscenely wealthy to return to paying what they owe to America and watch your property taxes go down.

  • ComradeRutherford

States have $3.5T in unfunded pension debt because RICH PEOPLE NO LONGER PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF INCOME TAXES! Because over the last 40 years Republicans and corrupt Democrats have made deals with the wealthy to let them get out of their obligations to America, shifting the cost of having a civilization onto YOUR shoulders!

You come here and take the side of the Koch brothers in attacking the middle class, by repeating the lies of the Republican leaders, lies that are patently false on their face, and you call US dumb?

  • grandpatimbo

Gee I belonged to a union for years but took a management job the last 10 years or so of employment. When I retired, I was paid for my unused vacation (3 months salary – 60 days of unused sick leave – 3 more months salary) plus drawing my pension and my 401K and income from real estate and other investments, picking up a buck or three writing newsletters for various folks and currently remodeling a couple of old houses to either rent out or sell when the market is right. You must lead a really boring life and have so little understanding of the world of work that I fail to see how you made enough to retire at 26 and live the rest of your life without a massive influx of cash, either illegal or inherited. P.S.:

“The Wisconsin Lie Exposed – Taxpayers Actually Contribute Nothing To Public Employee Pensions

“Gov. Scott Walker says he wants state workers covered by collective bargaining agreements to “contribute more” to their pension and health insurance plans. Accepting Gov. Walker’ s assertions as fact, and failing to check, creates the impression that somehow the workers are getting something extra, a gift from taxpayers. They are not. Out of every dollar that funds Wisconsin’ s pension and health insurance plans for state workers, 100 cents comes from the state workers.

    “How can this be possible?

“Simple. The pension plan is the direct result of deferred compensation- money that employees would have been paid as cash salary but choose, instead, to have placed in the state operated pension fund where the money can be professionally invested (at a lower cost of management) for the future.”

I can only discuss the teaching situation in Iowa. My school year began this
year on 8/23 and will end 5/ 28. My salary is paid out over a 12 month
period, but I get paid for 192 days of teaching not 365. Days not teaching
are with out pay. I pay 525.00 a month for health insurance. There is at
this time no optical insurance and dental is for cleaning every six months,
there is no coverage for treatment beyond that. We do not get every
government holiday off and there are no vacation pay days. We get a week off
for Christmas break, the day after Thanks Giving, Labour Day, and Memorial
Day.We get a three day Spring break. These are not part of the 192 paid
days. Our summers off are usually around 10 and a half weeks.
I do get sick days, 15 a year. In the five years I have been in my current
position, I have used four days, zero this current school year. I pay into
IPERS and yes, the government, your tax dollars, match, more or less what I
pay in. There is no early retirement, and for me to retire with full
benefits I will be 71.5 years old. I would then have been teaching for about
48 years. My health care would then be Medicare, which I pay in to. This is
not early retirement, nor free health care. My adjusted income, take home
pay, is 34, 700 dollars. My contribution to my health care is over 5 grand,
not free. Of course I pay into FICA and Medicare.
I don’t know of any school districts in Iowa that have five months out of
school. Every three years I go back to school and earn six hours of masters
level university credits. The last time I recertified this cost me 1200
dollars out of my pocket. I have done this 9 times in my career so this has
    cost several thousands of dollars.
Currently the Iowa legislature is proposing a two year wage freeze, no
increase for income, and no negotiation in any lay off or benifets.
Typically this is based on seniority, but it won’t be if this bill passes.
Veteran teachers will lose their jobs, so that less experienced teachers can
be hired at lower salary. Teachers start at around 25 grand. Many teachers
won’t be replaced and classroom size will rise, in some cases to over thirty
students per class. Research shows that 15 students per class is ideal.
I guess year round school would be an option. Students lose a lot when they
are off all summer. The plan does not increase the number of teaching days,
or teacher pay, it would spread it out over the year, with the same number
of off days, but not so many in a row.
This sums things up the best I can. I don’t think that I am a greedy scum
bag. I send my kids to public schools and they are not damaged.

We have one of the lowest tax rates in the industrialized world.

The fact that the private sector can make a middle class living look extravagant to people like you is an indictment of their effectiveness. 90% of the people are fighting over less than 50% of the money. How long do you think that will work? The banksters broke the bank, remember..or is your memory that short?

  • ComradeRutherford

Completely ignore what I said, you troll:

TaxedToDeath is doing the work of the Koch brothers: fighting the class war against the Middle Class on the side of the obscenely wealthy, instead of fighting for the very existence of a middle class. • ComradeRutherford

You are the most clueless person I have ever come across: you believe everything the GOP tells you without question, without looking around at the reality around you.

Throughout this entire thread you attack what little of the middle class there is left in America, demanding that the remainder of the middle class have their God-given rights taken away by the Republicans so the Koch brothers can eliminate the middle class forever and go back to the 1800s when there was no middle class.

And then you claim that once the middle class has been crushed entirely, once the political machine is firmly in the hands of the Republicans, once the Democratic Party has no power at all to fight the greed of the CEOs, ONLY then will you join the good fight.

Dude, by then it’s too late.

And once again, RAISE TAXES ON THE WEALTHY! THAT WILL SOLVE ALL AMERICA’S PROBLEMS!

We need to RESTORE Unions to the private sector, not eliminate them from the public sector.

There is PLENTY of money to pay the union’s pensions and health care, but the RICH REFUSE to pay their fair share!

But instead you attack people that actually WORKed for a living instead of sitting on their fat asses collecting Capital Gains!

Damn, dude, you are the most dense person I’ve ever seen here.

UNIONS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM! Unions are the ONLY reason America ever even had a Middle Class!

You are on the Koch Brother’s side by attacking the reason we even had a middle class!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_C6KHNF5Z33F4OIPCGPNISVTBPE Ron

If they are making that much then maybe you should be in favor of making them pay more in taxes. I doubt if any sizable number are making that much but if you believe that most of them are making that then your outrage is understandable but misinformed. The town I live in it is more like 30 or 40 thousand. That is the real world I live in.

  • ComradeRutherford

TaxedToDeath keeps lying brazenly, openly and refutably.

Forbes magazine, a hotbed of liberal unionism if there ever was one, has the latest article that points out how wrong TaxedToDeath is:

“Taxpayers Actually Contribute Nothing To Public Employee Pensions”

    http://blogs.forbes.com/rickungar/2011/02/25/the-wisconsin-lie-exposed-taxpayers-actually-contribute-nothing-to-public-employee-pensions/

  • ComradeRutherford

TaxedToDeath’s hero, the corrupt Governor of FL:

“Scott already plans to pursue an agenda of corporate tax cuts paired with destructive spending reductions that will hurt low-income Floridians, gut the state’s health care system, and cause the loss of tens of thousands of jobs.

“Florida would be better off if public employees couldn’t form unions and that it’s unfair to taxpayers that state workers don’t contribute to their pensions. While Florida’s constitution grants state workers the right to unionize and bargain for workplace rights, Scott said, “It’d be great to be able to change it.”

“Our state workers don’t pay for anything into their pension plan. And we can’t afford that — it’s not fair to taxpayers,” Scott said. “If you didn’t have collective bargaining, would it be better for the state? Absolutely.”
    http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2011/02/25/scott-bargain-flip/

My other link below points out how Scott, and TaxedToDeath, are brazenly lying. Employee benefits are actually salaries that have been shifted to benefits. The state governments are intentionally mismanaging those funds, spending that money on things other than the worker’s benefits, and then raising the property taxes to make it up.

But does TaxedToDeath attack the people responsible for the intentional mismanagement? Hells no!

TaxedToDeath joins the Obscenely Wealthy, and the corrupt Gov Scott of Florida, in attacking what little middle class there is left in America.

Meanwhile TaxedToDeath ignores everything I posted regarding the long-term class war by the wealthy against himself.

TaxedToDeath is firmly on the side of the Koch Brothers. By fighting against unionism, TaxedToDeath is fighting for the end of the 8-hour work day, TaxedToDeath is fighting for the end of weekends off. TaxedToDeath is fighting for the end of child-labor laws. TaxedToDeath is fighting to transform America into a one-party state where the people that actually WORK for a living have no rights, no income and no retirement.

    you are backwards and hopeless

  • grandpatimbo

If that is a true story – you have done well. I am thinking that you do not
have a lot of understanding for the world of work and the services that
public employees provide. It that were all privatized ( sounds good on the
surface), but take a good look at the California penal system for example.
Any time something is taken from the public domain, the main, objective of
the private group, as you well know, is profit, and costs will eventlually
rise to levels comparable to publicly operated systems. Police and fire
protection is better left in the hands of professionals, especially in urban
areas with the high crime rates and other social problems due to
unemployment, or underemployed people working for substandard wages and
still trying to live. The abuses of power by Wall Street, the banks and
insurance companies nearly bankrupted the country. Without the socialistic
bailout, the US economy would have gone under and taken the rest of the
world with it and your real estate and holdings would have been worth
nothing. The GM bailout was a successful program as GM made over $4 billion
in net profit last year and is on track for better earnings this year, which
will provide a nice return on our government investment with the added
benefit of 200,000 people remaining employed, paying into the system and not
drawing welfare or unemployment, buying houses, cars and the necessities of
    life.

Labor unions enabled the rise of the American middle class by leveling the
playing field with employers as well as creating an excellent revenue source
to help maintain the country. At present tax levels (far less than under
your hero Reagan) the richest people in the country tell us that the wealthy
are not paying their share to support the economy that make all that wealth
possible. Without a solid middle class, the country will degenerate into a
true third world economy with a wide split between the very wealthy and
everyone else (including you) It is a two edged sword but what you need to
keep in mind is that when the balance of power and wealth gets too far out
of kilter, that situation has a nasty way of correcting intself and it is
usually not to the benefit of those on top of the economic heap. Think about
the violent a bloody French, Russian, Cuban and Chinese revolutions for
examples of what could happen here if this union busting trend continues.

Florida local Governments and the State Government obtain revenue through a sales tax, through ad valorem taxes [Real estate taxes], and through fees charged for services and or certifications, licences, permits etc It also has taxes on corporations and used to have a tax on stock portfolios. Those revenues have suffered tremendously not because of Union workers but because of the declining tax revenues from a recession caused by Wall Street and corporate tax cuts and tax cuts for wealthy investors.
There are certainly some reforms needed particularly using overtime as a way of boosting earnings to prime a large retirement payoff. Having said that I have to say the demonization of union workers and the blaming unions for the evils created by the Wall Street/Corporate Suite created economic debacle is despicable and cynical.
