The Newspaper Guild, a journalists’ union with more than 34,000 members, has launched a letter writing campaign calling on Arianna Huffington, the co-founder of the Huffington Post, to share her fortune with the unpaid writers who made her successful.

“As we look to the future, we look to you, Arianna Huffington, as a leader in web-based news coverage, to demonstrate your commitment to the value of journalism, and to help prevent independent journalists from having to settle for third-world wages,” the letter to Ms. Huffington stated.

Writers for ArtScene and Visual Art Source also announced Monday that they were going on strike against the Huffington Post until the publication proposed a pay schedule and stopped placing promotional material alongside editorial content.

“It is unethical to expect trained and qualified professionals to contribute quality content for nothing,” Bill Lasarow, publisher and co-editor of Visual Art Source, said in a statement.

“It is unethical to cannibalize the investment of other organizations who bear the cost of compensation and other overhead without payment for the usage of their content. It is extremely unethical to not merely blur but eradicate the distinction between the independent and informed voice of news and opinion and the voice of a shill.”

Mario Ruiz, the Senior Vice President of Media Relations at the Huffington Post, defended the online publication in a letter to Guild president Bernie Lunzer, noting that the Huffington Post employs 143 editors, writers, and reporters.

“While we pay our editors and reporters, we don’t pay for the opinion pieces submitted by our thousands of bloggers,” Ruiz explained. “The vast majority of our bloggers understand the value of having a platform that reaches a very large audience. People blog on HuffPost for free for the same reason they go on cable TV shows every night for free – because they are passionate about their ideas, want them to be heard by the largest possible audience, and understand the value that that kind of visibility can bring.”

“Our bloggers can choose to write for HuffPost – or not write for HuffPost,” he continued. “They can write as often as like they like or as little as they like. It’s both wrong and offensive to insist that HuffPost is exploiting journalists.”

In response, Lunzer said he had “great concerns about the HuffPost model and its long-term effect on journalism.”

The Huffington Post has faced a slew criticism from liberals and progressives after it was sold to AOL for $315 million.

“Any business owner who uses largely unpaid labor, with a handful of underpaid, nonunion employees, to build a company that is sold for a few hundred million dollars, no matter how he or she is introduced to you on the television screen, is not a liberal or a progressive,” American journalist, author and war correspondent Chris Hedges wrote at TruthDig last week.

“If Huffington has a conscience, she will sit down when the AOL check arrives and make sure every cent of it is paid out to those who worked free or at minimal wages for her over the last six years.”

Hahhaha, sit down, and shut up….serfs.

This is how all capitalism works. Seriously, I challenge you to think about business, and find one for-profit company that is not run like a pyramid scheme.

Ive been boycotting HuffPost after years of blogging and thousands of comments. The most important issue for them is censoring any comments that question the ‘official’ 911 theory…you know, the one 6 of the 10 commissioners said is a lie. And they allow community moderating by other users and this has been hijacked by conservatives and even paid groups of establishment disinformation units. There are plenty of people who have come forward and said they were paid to do this and now as Glenn Greenwald, Bradblog, Rawstory and ComputerWorld have reported, the US military is using software that generates hundreds of fake personas to blog on HuffPost and Facebook while shuffling their IP addresses so the targets cant tell they are all coming from one computer. We have been outsmarted again. We shouldve been doing this to FOX. There are even trolls here Im sure.

Its their over-reaching censorship of Progressive voices that pisses me off more than the money they made. They even block al comments suggesting JFK was killed in a conspiracy. We have 500,000 people in prison on conspiracy charges alone in this country but they would have you believe they dont exist and ant be proved in a court of law. THIS is the biggest hypocrisy of those pretending to be Liberal…they end up simply defending and becoming the opposite….they are apologists and excusers for the far right in true Vichey fashion.

Arianna and AOL appear to be a good match, since they’ve both built their empires with the benefit of volunteer labor.

I love the line, “I don’t believe in conspiracy theories”– spoken by people who, for some reason, by God, must convince you of their complete and unwavering sanity. If all conspiracies have theories deduced by those who recognize the possibility a conspiracy exists, i.e., ‘how in the fuck did THREE buildings collapse exactly like commercial demolitions?’, then to “not believe in conspiracy theories” is to not believe in conspiracies themselves, because when a conspiracy indeed exists, it’s possible someone has come up with a “conspiracy theory”, which turns out to be correct.

So, to not believe in conspiracies is to say that no one ever conspires, which is utter nonsense. People driven to saying patently insane things by the devotion to their own sanity. And they’re the majority.

The bloggers and “journalists” on Huffington Post are somewhat biased. Not all posts are posted if the poster does not speak favorably about specific politicians and issues. They are very touchy about what they will publish. Huffington writers are also stingy with the truth. They tend to slant the news to fit the own ideology. All the articles tend to favor Republicans.

What the hell is up with the insane word-filter/censorship at HuffPo? You can’t even type “Sarah Palin” without your comment being flagged review.

Huff post has a collection of the stupidest readers ever, why the heck anyone goes there I don’t know, its just as twisted as MSM in many cases..just like Red State is on the right.

  • Anonymous

Yeah… Huff first sold out by moving to the center… then she sold out by selling out to a conservative news sorce – though technically she became conservative in news. Now she needs to share that $315 million with those who put her there.

But I’m betting the bitch won’t!

Having known Arianna back in her New York days, I was always very leery of her site……..it has always been, will always be all about Arianna…..she is a famewhore who is all about promoting herself and all of her appearances on TV. Those on television would be wise to steer clear of her.

That she chose not to pay her bloggers is classic Arianna…….I’m sure everyone “yessed” her to death and she has given them NOTHING. This is so typical of her.

She is not to be trusted under any circumstances and I fully support a boycott of her site. I can get all that I need here at Raw Story, Truth Dig, the BBC, and the Guardian UK for news. I don’t need her nonsensical site for what passes as news.

She is also very close to Gingrich and Breitbart and I just don’t trust her.

Good thread. HuffPost censors as much as Bush ever did. There number ONE priority is making sure no one has a forum to question the ‘official’ BS story about 911. I boycott them now and they are going the way of Myspace as far as Im concerned.

I’ve never been part of a union. How does one join one? Do you need a degree in Journalism to join the union mentioned above or would there be a required years of service? I wonder who they use to get their material? Is that possible? Freebies from the comments section? So many posts, just have to figure out what is quality? We live in the age of electronic media. Who is getting used, really? How many aspire to be writers? Will this help established writers elbow them out. Sure the colleges have something to do with it, they crank out the degrees, to the good boys and girls who play the game right, get to class, don’t miss, do all your homework little darlings. Those are the dues and when a union finally accepts you, you’ll have to pay more dues.

  • Derek Spisak

Nothing like a goal of $84 per story (per AOL’s “plan”).

  • CattyNineTails

HuffPo’s comment moderators always seemed schizophrenic — like, my post would get nix’d while a half dozen others which clearly violated posting regs would remain — and in the months leading up to the AOL merger it got MUCH worse.

But the final straw was back in in January when Arianna got into that minor airline scrape … ? (She refused to turn off her Blackberry after the “electronic devices off” announcement and wound up talking with police after her flight landed.)

A few days later, Gawker reported that a “HIGH PRIORITY ALERT” had been posted on HuffPo’s internal message board for moderators which read:

“Please make sure not to allow any comments about the airline incident involving AH this past weekend. It is off-topic on any article.”

Proof that AH still means “asshole.”

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FONW6K3ZWV4BU4ZTCDCSZHHH6E Mick Jagger

Their ‘community’ moderators main job is to stamp out questions about 911 and the ensuing Police State as well as TSA and government surveillance. They refuse to comment on the recent story about corporations and military creating fake blogging units with multiple fake profiles.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FONW6K3ZWV4BU4ZTCDCSZHHH6E Mick Jagger

Or Michael Chertoff when it comes to TSA crimes.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FONW6K3ZWV4BU4ZTCDCSZHHH6E Mick Jagger

At this point the fascism is a joint venture between government, military and corporations. They CAN pull it off. They had some loose ends but people are too stubborn, dumb and afraid to call them out.

That’s what they want you to think, that all these thigs are just ‘mistakes’ and ‘stupidity’. Like Viet Nam and WMDs. Trust me the government can do HUGE things successfully, when it wants, especially the hidden government, or those who operate behind the scenes can pull this stuff off. Think about it. Manhattan Project, arming for WW2, Moon landings (or fake moon landing), I mean there are plenty of things. Insofar as the nefarious activiries, they can be accomplished because the agencies and individuals involved operate on a NEED TO KNOW basis (plus they fucking kill people). Ulimatley though it is the EVIDENCE that dictates; not what you would like to believe is true or some maxim that sounds nice but may or may not apply.

I had a feeling this ZsaZsa Huffington was a plant as soon as she ‘switched’ her political leanings.

  • GunTotingLib

Everyone that writes for HuffPo does so on their own free will. Why volunteer to write for free, go get a real job. Unless I see chains at the desks of the free content writers then it is all about their own personal EGO. They think they have something important to say and that people must hear it. Really guys, take your scary , in demand talent and move on if you don’t like it

  • http://thepoliticalbandit.com/ William Cormier

The Huffington Post is a unique publication that some claim to be left-leaning. I won’t disagree that it might have been left-leaning at one time, but for the past few months there is a definite effort to move closer to the center which I believe will prove to be a mistake. I think that a mediocre bill is far worse off for the city and we need to rescind their approval. For the Huff. Post the proof will be in the pudding. I never pick fights or in any way allow myself to disparage a client or company that doesn’t deserve it. I also felt like she sold out, but again, that’s why all of us have opinions.

In all honesty I’ve never been that big a fan of Huffington, who always struck me as more a social climber than an activist. I will never forget how she was always talking about hanging out with Gingrich until his fall from grace…

I visited HuffPost from Day 1 back in 1995, but quit recently because of its half-assed censorship. Criticism of the Obama administration or the Democratic Party is simply not permitted anymore, even by bloggers and commenters trying to criticize constructively. And the content has become disgustingly commercial, desperately pandering to the ignorant and complacent “center” — actually the de facto right. Dating advice, diet tips and blog after blog of saccharine religious musings dominate the site. It’s really a shame. HuffPost was a great idea while it lasted, but it got devoured by the capitalist monster, just as almost everything in the Western world gets devoured by the capitalist monster sooner or later.

  • lilyannerose

“It’s both wrong and offensive to insist that HuffPost is exploiting journalists.”

Well, well, Mario Ruiz, I expect that most of us think it’s wrong to receive $100Million in cash for one’s solitary bank account, especially when the root of that money is unpaid labor by others. The first headline HuffPo should have displayed following this sale was “The Checks To Our Wonderful Writers Are Being Cut and Will be in the Mail within 24-hours, Ariana and Her Bank Account Thank Each and Everyone of You.”

Ariana has certainly proved herself to be the best of the best when it comes to getting something for nothing!

What do you mean by “government”? Who do you think runs the FBi, Pentagon, the CIA?
Do you think all these agencies are incompetent? How on earth did government manage to develop the nuclear weapons and missiles without engulfing us all in a nuclear armageddon?
There are private agencies that do the bidding of powerful politicians and industrialists that are capable of all kinds of operations with a high degree of competence and secrecy. These same agencies have operational links to CIA and FBI and are used to perform actions “off the books” All governments of all countries have them.

    History never lies.

How quickly America was willing to forget that Arianna was a hardcore right-wing conservative fundraising activist a decade or two ago.

How willing everyone is to believe that hardcore rightwingers who like media attention aren’t willing to exploit political beliefs in order to profit, whether consciously or not.

Huffington Post is drival and celebrity worship. For years they tricked people into giving them free content by playing to their beliefs, and then they sold out to advertising completely. How many people could look at full page ads, pop-ups, links, adbars, sidebars, and dozens of porn news stories, and actually think there was some integrity involved?

These days, there’s a sucker born every second. And everyone “journalist” who gave HP their work for free even once should retract their statement. They ignorantly chose to ignore the signs that they were being exploited, and begging for money now is just sad. You killed journalism, not Arianna. She just convinced you to do it for free.

I canceled my account at HP the day after the sale to AOL was announced. 5+ years of comments gone in a puff of virtual smoke but what the hell … the comment censorship had become intolerable and the front page had devolved into misleading headlines and trash articles but the last straw was the thought of Arianna Huffington walking away with millions thanks to all of the bloggers who had never received a dime for all of their efforts. I visit HP from time to time and I’m amazed to see most of the same people still writing there — I would have expected a full-blown boycott by now. At least the Newspaper Guild is finally making some noise but if they think Arianna Huffington has a conscience I think they’re in for a rude awakening. Forget about the Huffington Post. Just think about it. How could it ever be truthful, given the fact, that it would never publish any opinion or be biased about news if it would have a negative effect on the AOL-Time Warner stock portfolio? Same deal with MSNBC (Microsoft National Broadcasting Company) , which would not publish or censor news, if it would hurt the Microsoft stock portfolio. You CANNOT get fair and balanced news from corporation owned stations and sites!

I quit my account at HP after the AOL deal, too, and I have wondered how many did the same. There are a lot of posters there with very low “fan” numbers (newbies) and the trolls seem to have infiltrated to the point that they are taking over. I really miss my favorite posters but when you have to start spelling in code and figuring out how to get around the mods to make a statement that in no way crosses their guidelines…..it was like writing letters from the USSR.

It’s because, if the truth would prevail, many heads would roll, and it would certainly reshape the geopolitical landscape and domestic policy within days. We would need a new Nuremberg trials set up, but this time not about the Germans, but the American Nazis.

Well I am glad you anarchists got it all figured out. Nice and simple easy thought processes. I suppose despite the successes of presidents like LBJ and FDR we should condemn to hell as well for the horrors they allowed to go on in World War II and the imprisonment of American Japanese (because that’s what it was) and the escalation of the Vietnam War. In fact, you could probably find something to piss on every person that has been president of the U.S.

The fact is, every great progressive movement that has happened in the United States has been the American people pushing the president. All you anarchists are good at is pissing on people. Life that miserable for you? A wise man once said “Don’t make judgments in anger for 80% of time it is going to be the wrong decision.” Now if you can’t find anything good about President Obama that is your opinion and nothing more and your entitled to it. But if you think you got it all figured with your simple easy processing… you are an idiot. And it is YOU, anarchist, that empowers the hard right. Because there is a big difference if you have been paying attention at all since the midterm elections. You actually remind me a lot of how the tea baggers rationally think as they foolishly follow their oligarchs in anger. Just remember fool, your kind is good business for places like Rense and Prison Planet.

You don’t have a lock on the misery that this planet goes and gone through. Your misguided anger does not solve problems but keeps it going. You should be critical of your president but don’t lose site of our true enemies. You should take a lesson from the protesters in Wisconsin. Ok now you can proceed to tell me to fuck off and all that… whatever… you can’t teach me nothing.

C’mon folks, this is the new America! The “little people” work for minimum wage or no wage just to be near greatness, while the owners reap huge rewards. Get over it. This is the “I got mine, now buzz off” society at work. Go marry a wealthy man, divorce him, take his money and start your own popular blog. You know, the Huffington Method of self-enrichment.

BYE BYE huffpo, GREED got to Arianna. Arianna how much money do you need? When the people can’t fend for themselves, how do those that have, expect those that don’t, will do their bidding? They’ll be uneducated, OMG like a third world country. Vote for dictatorship? Could you see the right try to pick a dictator? They all love themselves.

I remember being the first commentator on a particular thread. When I returned a few hours later there were four other comments but mine wasn’t one of them. I suspected for quite a while that there was something very fishy about those Huffington Post’s quote-unquote ‘moderators’ and your contribution has confirmed my suspicions.

    Thanks for the information.

I would say it’s not government itself but the fact that this government is essentially a cover for what is basically a gangster state at the service of predatory capitalists, that is an important distinction. There actually are governments that do operate based on ‘promoting the general welfare’. And they work.

Ariana is a typical Greek political animal. In Greece reputations are made by attacking anyone who is in power whatever their policies so as to discredit them in order to bring them down and capture power yourself. A left wing variety of this was Andreas Papandreou who as a minister in his father’s government politically sabotaged him and brought down his government. Then started a socialist political party named after himself. Ariana who is at heart a right winger wants to become a king maker by destroying first Republicans and then Democrats clearing the way for a ‘non-partisan’ Ariana party of the popular front, fascist kind.

Gun Toting Lib? Guns have murdered billions of living things on this planet yet not a single gun-toter has ever done anything for the planet or its other inhabitants. How many living things will be shot to death today simply because the human male is the most murderous animal that ever set foot on any planet, in any universe?

One of my posts commenting on Ariana and her fortune off of the backs of unpaid writers hasn’t made it past the censors on HuffPo. Seems like since the AOL merger more and more comment threads are being censored before posting. I posted on her “date” with Bill Maher re the Oscars and how awesome it was for the poor little rich girl.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, think maybe I went a little too far?

    Pied piper.

It’s a time honored strategy and one used quite effectively and regularly by plutocrats who are smarter than you. Huffington set up the progressives who willingly, naively “trusted” her and took her words at face value. She’s always been a reptile whose loyalty is to her class and her elite tier of serf wranglers. Most “progressives” you see in the mainstream press are not progressive at all. If you’re getting your information from mass media, you deserve to be lead to your doom.

You built the slaughterhouse with your own hands, then you got turned into sausage. Surprise.

If you’re not fighting as a union, together with your brothers and sisters against the Huffingtons of this world, you deserve your fate. Class warfare? The upper class has successfully been waging war on you for decades. You’re just too stupid to know it.

She won’t pay them because she is a greedy parasite.

In terms of what she stands for, she shares more with Murdoch and the Kochs than she does with the people who’ve worked for her for free all these years. Oh, and she plays the gender card whenever possible, which is often.

She stands for TWO things: (1) pushing Arianna as a “serious” journalistic presence (no, I am NOT making this up), and (2) $$$.

The HP has been a reliable place to find (1) articles that other sites posted hours or days before and (2) articles about fashion, breast implants, and plastic surgery (items seemingly of special interest to Arianna).

Glad I quit that joint. The Huff Po is now just another tool in the Corporatista’s tool box. It was fun while it lasted, but the fun is done. Dump ‘em.

  • http://bestvpnforyou.com/ user4574

Survival of the fittest is by it’s very nature exploitation. Even in the animal kingdom, they still don’t exploit to the extent of taking much more than they need or can possibly use. Beyond that it’s greed, which quickly gets corrected in the animal world. That’s all based on scarcity though. With industrialization and technology, survival of the fittest isn’t necessary for humans. There are plenty of resources to go around.

The thing about exploitation is it isn’t always forced. It can also be done through luring, lies, and misrepresentation of intentions. HuffPo’s very foundation was built on an anti-corporate media premise and criticism of unnecessary greed. Sure people volunteered, and many did so for self promotion, but they also did it with the assurance that the foundational mindset would continue long term, which affects their decision to volunteer. With AOL’s buyout, all future value in that respect is effectively destroyed, and the writers’ previous contributions are now devalued. If she had just sold it to another private party that could maintain the ongoing value, it might be a different reaction since the writers’ time and energy expenditure would still be worth something.

With Arianna though, it’s also about hypocrisy. By selling to AOL, she’s turned Huffington Post into an even worse pile of shit than it already was. It’s bad for the readers, the contributors, and bad for AOL. The only one walking away with something positive is Arianna, and that’s probably the biggest thing pissing people off, especially given how critical she is of other people and entities doing the same.

Demand for payment after the fact? Are these whiners suggesting Oprah has to pay everyone who appeared on her show or spoke up from the studio audience? It was Arianna that created the value that AOL was interested in, synthesizing the paid and voluntary journalism into a high trafficked revenue producing model. Any contributor could have done the same and some have. Marquee writers simply cross post at HuffPo to cover more ground. The exchange for exposure is totally fair.

Don’t try to attach strings afterwards. You can leave HuffPo anytime and never were promised anything beyond traffic and exposure. The HuffPo has also been way ahead of the msm in covering whitewashed stories. Sorry if they don’t do truther cut n’paste jobs or JFK, UFO etc but that’s what Fortean Times is for, right?

“the successes of presidents like LBJ and FDR ”

I wouldn’t want to live through truly revolutionary times. Generally speaking, there are a few too many dead women and children for my liking.

    That being said…..

FDR saved capitalism. Without the reforms passed in the 30′s/40′s, things would have come to a head….At the time, the US population was not a country of Fox News sycophants – It was a nation of Little Red Songbooks.

Impossible to know how things would have turned out, but….. Worth remembering.

Perhaps reforms are the best that can be hoped for until material conditions finally force people to see the yoke of capitalism around their friggin’ necks. Perhaps not. I dunno.

As for Obama….. He governs like the center-right man he is. No surprise. He’s certainly – empirically – maintained most of the worst of bush/cheneys Constitutional abuses.

    Said he wouldn’t. Did.

That’s not an endorsement of friggin’ palin, so spare me that canard, plz. He is, quite obviously, not a progressive by any definition. Better than cheney, but the line gets blurry when so many objectives/perspectives are shared on a practical level.

    As for this:

“And it is YOU, anarchist, that empowers the hard right.”

    That’s just silly.

    Silly.

If you actually believe that…..Well, i don’t know what to say if you meant that literally. Regardless, it’s a laughable assertion.

Not that you were talking to me…

    Sheer genius.

    Gotta love it.

  • H.P. Loathecraft

Let’s start with “anarchists”, which I neither profess to be nor do you know the meaning of the word.
Anarchy is a opolitical system and is nothing at all like you apparently think it is.
If you want to know more about it, I suggest you start here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Civil_War

“The fact is, every great progressive movement that has happened in the United States has been the American people pushing the president.”
I am fully cognizant of that fact. Obama is not receptive to the notion of progressive political action. When one of your acquaintances disappears into the national security detention system one day in the near future, it will suddenly dawn on you.
“Now if you can’t find anything good about President Obama that is your opinion and nothing more and your entitled to it.”
Who said that? He’s a family man. He hasn’t got a criminal record. I hear he plays a decent game of hoops. Let’s see, I’m sure I missed something.
“You should be critical of your president but don’t lose site of our true enemies.”
I have a pretty good idea who my true enemies are and their party affiliation couldn’t be any less relevant.
However, I don’t disagree that Republicans are more openly fascist than democrats are by and large. But Obama is not only not even a little progressive, he is a corporatist from the ankles up and he always has been.
I can tell you’re not from Chicago. Progressive democrats from Chicago have a rather dim view of Obama because they know him and they will tell you he has always campaigned as a fake progressive and governed as a Republican. Oh, and Chicago community organizers will tell you he has never been a “community organizer. Ever.

“Ok now you can proceed to tell me to fuck off and all that… whatever… you can’t teach me nothing.”
Yes I can™. The phrase should be “you can’t teach me anything”.

PS-I wouldn’t think of telling you to fuck off for your personal POV.

  • Walt

No surprise of Obama governing let of center (considering the center has long left the center). However a man that knew where the center was (like a Dennis Kicunich) was unelectable… for the unfortunate reasons that the American people allowed to happen. However…

You are naively neglecting the context of the tremendous importance and magnitude within, not only our U.S. history, but our role in the world, with the American people electing a dark skin President with a Muslim last name. I do not believe it is lost on the events that has been happening across these Northern African Nations that have been under a true Fascist regime of oppression and intolerance that we cannot relate to… seriously… this is still “Freedom of Speech” right here.

But the white racist (and I am a WASP who is not a racist but have been angered to be a bigot at times), the greedy corporatist, and the religious right who have morphed into one scary and powerful monster are quite disenchanted with this Obama getting elected as the President of “We the People.” By the way, when I say, a powerful monster I mean they are very fearful people with a lot of money.

The reality is, Obama is wanted dead, and he has a very fine line to walk on to succeed which includes the world’s stage. Obama said it himself he needs, “We the people,” fighting the good fight, and pushing him because it is the most difficult job in the world. I think he has it far worse than FDR who knew he couldn’t succeed without the majority will of the people. Letting our anger get the best of us to justify throwing Obama under the bus is a win for the “South.”

Look what happened at the midterm elections because angry liberals “was going to show Obama.” Look what the true American Fascists are doing now because they believe they have been empowered by the midterm elections and there media machine. They need you to direct your anger at Obama and encourage his downfall.

I will still support Obama and equally criticize him. I will also still acknowledge he is a good man and a very smart man. And I am a proud liberal. And I will still try to reach out to those brainwashed fools, who really are not that different from you or I, who have been seduced by these charismatic, shallow minded, and even sociopath fear provocateurs.

I thank you for your feedback. And I will continue to be critical of us liberals when you TAKE YOUR EYE OFF THE BALL. Do not underestimate the power of the opposition that has been built up over a 30 year period (most notably during the Bush II regime). We are and have been at war with this American Fascism that has always excited. Support and encourage those as more and more are figuring it out. That’s all.

If Julian Assange is not sent to prison, he most probably will be assassinated. If this occurs, who would say that CIA did not conspire to kill him, like they have so many others deemed enemies of the government.

There has always been a massive campaign by the government to mock those who believe in conspiracies, make them seem like fools. But that can easily be explained: our government is run by conspiracy. Is there anyone that actually believes that we are told what is really going on? Ask Julian Assange. While he is still around.

I think there are some social democracies in Europe and, well Canada as well, that do a much better job of functioning to promote the general welfare, not so much, as is the US gov, an organization that promotes and privatizes corporate profit and socializes corporate loses. For that matter in Japan too, I have been there as well many times, and never see the more abject poverty and people living in the streets like I do here.
I wasn’t disagreeing with you, at all, I was just kind of putting out my slant on what you said.

Sorry, I didn’t answer back sooner. I just ran out of time. I still hold onto the Democratic values I was raised on and always will. But I am also pragmatic and realize the world is never going to be perfect. I acknowledge that the Democratic Party has lost its way and that I would like to see a good number of Democratic politicians voted out of power. But I am also fully aware that there a lot of principled Democratic politicians on all government levels who wants to put the party back on the right track. And I support them. And I fully understand there is a big difference between the two parties despite those who would disagree with me as obviously commented by a lot of people here at Raw Story.

But here is the truth, in my opinion. We are and have been in a bloodless civil war that created by the sociopathy of the far right that is so heavily steeped in fear and self serving greed. And there is a lot of anger out there. Righteously so. But we can’t allow ourselves to get trapped in this fear and anger that the other side as done so well fermenting in their followers allowing themselves to become trapped in their weakness that they see as a strength.

Listen, I had the fortune to literally sail around the world when I was in the Navy. And it was quite an education in its own self. I came to the conclusion, despite race, religion, culture, most people want the same thing. I don’t think we are all that different from others.

Back to the other side. Look what happened at the midterm elections and take a look at what is going on in Wisconsin. That is ground zero for what, I deem, the true American Fascist agenda. There intentions is not to help the American people. It is to destroy the government, on all levels, from within. And then they leave and get a cushy job with these Corporatist billionaires. It is nothing more than an attempt of a corporate takeover. It is these fascists on the right that has been trying to convince us all that government is evil because they made it that way. But history as shown they are fucking wrong. Don’t take my word for it. There are a lot of good history books out there and the best and funnest way to learn is to take a trip to Washington D.C. An incredible place I recommned every American make at least once in their lifetime (of course you can’t see it all in one visit).

Getting back to Wisconsin, there is a movement growing, and those 14 Democratic Congress people, who is fighting the tyranny of this dictator in a governor’s suit are heroes in my eyes. It is easy to let your anger get the best of you and just piss on people who don’t see it your way. I know because I have been one of those people. But it doesn’t get me anywhere. I have to try and look at it with the cup half full instead of half empty… for the sake of my family and myself. We all need to stay focused on the true enemy and understand this battle is not going to be one in an election cycle. Moving that dial back to the center is going to take time and perseverance. We must continue to try and reach out to others instead of piss them off. It is “we the people” that can only save our Democracy. That much as been written many times. If I can reach one person today and get them to grasp what is at stake… I feel pretty good. And that is how the movement grows. But don’t underestimate the power of the opposition.

  • Walt

I tell you what you can keep reading my comments over and over and correct my grammar. I tend to not spend enough time proof reading. So please do. By the way… I am not your enemy.

A conspiracy after the fact, is not what I recognize as a conspiracy worthy of one of those vaunted ‘conspiracy theories’ :p
governments are great at coverups, but terrible at creating plans. It is also the plans one must worry about, coverups rarely lead to more plans, but plans themselves tend to lead to more coverups.

I’m 100% supporter of unions and even led a Newspaper Guild drive once. Unfortunately, the Guild has been inept for years as newspapers – an industry whose history has been closely aligned with unions (writers don’t create capital for one reason) – have lost their unions. In this case, the problem rests with those willing to work for free. They cheapen themselves and they cheapen their profession.
