So much for toning down the violent political rhetoric in Washington.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) used gun imagery Sunday while discussing public workers’ collective bargaining rights.

“In some of these states you’ve got collective bargaining laws that are so weighted in favor of the public employees that there’s almost no bargaining,” he told CBN’s David Brody.

“We’ve given them a machine gun and put it right at the heads of the local officials and they really have their hands tied.”

Republican governors in some states have moved to force unions to pay more for benefits, and to strip them of collective bargaining rights. Thousands have recently protested union-busting bills in Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana.

“I think what you’re seeing in these states is they’re trying to bring some balance to these negotiations that when you look at the pay of public employees today and you look at their retirement benefits they are way out of line with many other working Americans,” Boehner added.

In the wake of a mass shooting in Arizona that left six dead and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in the hospital, Boehner did temporarily moderate his word choice.

After the shooting, the House Speaker chose to refer to President Obama’s signature health care law as “job destroying” instead of “job killing.”

The Ohio Republican may be testing the waters for more violent words in the future.

Earlier this year, Rep. Mike Lee (R-UT) said that toning down the rhetoric means “the shooter wins.”

“What happened to Boehner here is a symptom a lot of politicians are noticing,” Talking Points Memo’s Brian Beutler noted. “As the weeks tick away since the Arizona shooting, they’re slipping back into modes of rhetoric they’d grown comfortable with over the last years. Of course, they’ll continually readjust and correct themselves for the next long interim, but they’re on the slow slide back to the status quo ante.”

Just goes to show you some of those public workers are gun toting repuggs, and I thought Boehner was all for machinegun rights.

Wow, old pic. How do we get it out to the majority of Americans, who don’t follow politics, that he’s is destroying jobs?

Isn’t it ironic that rich government employee’s want to take away the right’s of the middle class government employee’s!

  • Gimmie Shelter

What an asshole Boehner is to even draw such a picture. He sure forgot his roots real quick from the days of the family bar. Maybe his weepyness is caused by the legacy remnants of the conscience he once had.

The GOP is handing America over to the corps, for what may turn out to be it’s last and most spectacular no bid contract, after which this country can not return from, for it’s soul.

I’m a tax payer and the thing I hate the worst is this f’ker trying to pit the me against the public worker. I pay my taxes so they can have a decent wage and I hate the mf ‘er that thinks I’m jealous of what they make. I have the right to join a union and bygod I’m not gonna say they should not have the same rights that I have.

  • camille01

Haven’t the billionaires had machine guns pointed at the middle class worker? They have to pay more into their pension, more into healthcare in return for the right to not fall into poverty wages. Believe me, a billionaire, such as what the Repblicans represent has a much larger machine gun than a middle class worker. Please Mr. Boehner, no tears for the billionaires.

Our “machine guns” are one another, our union brothers and sisters, whose voices raised together demand rule of, by, and FOR the people. Boehner is hostile to democracy itself, which befits a tool of oligarchy.

Mr. Speaker, you’ll have to pry my union card from my cold, dead hands. And millions of my brethren stand ready to stop you.

Let’s see who gets machine gunned first the unions or the goons and their lackeys like Boehner.History doesn’t support his contention. History is replete with union busting goons and even the military gunning down strikers and their families. But those aren’t the stories you hear playing golf at the country club.

“”I think what you’re seeing in these states is they’re trying to bring some balance to these negotiations that when you look at the pay of public employees today and you look at their retirement benefits they are way out of line with many other working Americans,” Boehner added.”

“they are way out of line with many other working Americans,”

    1) that’s a lie.

    2) it’s becoming true only because “other working Americans” are being abused more and more as their Unions dissolve and their jobs move overseas.

    3) why is it a bad thing that the public have the power to defend themselves against the occasional dictator like Walker when they slip into office?

Right-wingers.. proving over and over that they hate Democracy and the idea that “the little people” have any control of their own lives.

Until we decide to strip the top 2% of the means of production and turn over the key parts of our society to the public, we’ll continue to be assaulted by those looking to enslave us all. …. and Yes, I’m advocating a REAL Socialism in America to save America and restore Democracy. Energy, health, food, transportation, utilities (water, etc).. these things should not be in the hands of abusive profit-mongers, they should be in the hands of the public.

In the past, the Owners didn’t just talk about machine guns, they used them on the workers. Mr. Bo-ner is the modern day mouthpiece of the descendants of the Owners who never got over being forced to bargain with what they once openly thought of as their literal wage-slaves.

Boehner is displaying his ignorance of American History. He wouldn’t say something so stupid if he were aware of the violent history of labor relations in the U.S. Then again, maybe he was drunk.

    Violent rhetoric?

Once again, the right-wing is directing the country’s talking points. The focus in on unions instead of killer corporations.

It is America’s killer corporations that are the problem. They kill livelihoods, they kill competition, they kill pensions, they slaughtered our economy, they’re leaving our government in a bloody mess, they kidnapped and raped our election process.

We need the death penalty for the tax-dodging killer corporations. They’re getting away with murder.

Most of the news attention has been on Wisconsin but similar activity is going on in Ohio where the legislature just voted against collective bargaining for unions. Boehner’s buddy, former Congressman John Kasich, who is now the Ohio governor, was the man behind the Ohio’s investment in Lehman Brothers’ mortgage backed securities. Governor John Kasich, is the same John Kasich who when he worked at Lehman convinced the legislature in Ohio to invest in the mortgage-backed securities that drove their pension fund directly into the ground. And of course, in gratitude for this work, the voters of Ohio elected him governor, who else could solve the problem that he created than the man who created it. And how will Kasich do this, by blaming the problem he directly created on the government workers and other middle class workers in Ohio and screwing the workers of Ohio yet again.

This is Republican politics as we have come to know and appreciate it!

Though I lean very liberal, there’s some merit in what Walker is trying to do. Unions are not a good idea for public servants. Even FDR said that. You don’t want union bosses robbing the public coffers and they’ve been doing it for years. Remember, government employees produce nothing. It’s all service work and there should be no cradle to grave benefits just because someone worked in a cush gov’t job. And, they none have a harsh work environment. It’s not like they’re coal miners, textile workers or even retail workers. Busting the unions may be a good idea.

I’m tired of these RepubliKlanners, these Teabaggers, these assholes, running around using violent imagery, and sometimes straight up violence, against PEACEFUL AMERICANS.

And they do it because they WANT violence. If they can provoke one of their own psychos into going “2nd Amendment” on liberals, they win because they can distance themselves from the crazy and maybe a few libs die in the process. If they can provoke a *liberal* into violence, for them that’s a win x 10 because then every conservatard and every corporate whore media ape will be out there pant-hooting about it, and the left would *truly* have lost the argument, and the upper ground.

I really, really wish I could simply dismiss this story with a simple “John WHO?” because of the fact that he’s just another Attention Whore, but unfortunately, he’s in a position of power, and to ignore him would be a mistake.

  • Anonymous

    “Though I’m very liberal”

Take it from me, you’re not. Your brimming ignorance, and callused dismissive attitude toward government workers in your community, can only be sustained inside the vacuous brain of a Glen Beck worshiping, knuckle dragging, right winger.

If you disdain government workers so much, then by god don’t take advantage of their “service work”.

Live by your principle, and take only roads that you and your right wing freak friends have built, dig your own septic tank, call the police and firefighters that if you get robbed or your house burns down to not come to your address, don’t you dare visit any public park of any kind, dig your own well and purify your own water, haul all of your trash yourself, if you do go against your principles and go to a public beach, at least have the decency to tell the lifeguard that the lazy son of a bitch shouldn’t save you if you start to drown.

Shop for food that isn’t inspected by the FDA, and I hope you get sick. Find restaurants or road side food stands that aren’t rated by a public servant, with an A rating. And if you come up with an invention, don’t you dare make use of the intellectual property rights enforcement of our court system. If your mother gets shot by some right wing gun nut at a Democratic rally, don’t expect any services from the local DA’s office, or expect a pathology report, and make damn sure you bury her in your back yard, and not a local cemetery whose grounds are kept up by those unworthy government workers.

I’ve got some problems with some government workers, don’t get me wrong. Like the ones who run our shadow government, spy on our private lives, and lie us into war. I despise the government workers, in both parties, who conspire to shovel tons of cash from our “public coffers” in corporate welfare to lazy jerks on Wall Street who “produce nothing”.

So get busy, you’ve got a lot of work to do living on your island of principled resistance against lowly “public servants”.

No, it was FDR. He said “”All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service.” He definitely was against government employees organizing. Read all else he said. He was flat against it. In the public sector he was very much for it, and I am, too.

  • Guest

God help US, the American people. I started reading down the posts here and had to just fucking STOP!

What is so hard to grasp. For everyone here blasting the repubs let me ask you a question…

What did you think of the dems when obama said he wanted to move forward and not prosecute bush and his crooks. How did you feel about the dems when that filthy woman pelosi said, while trying to control her shaking… “impeachment is off the table.” And how did you feel when obama voted for immunity for the telecomms. I won’t go on because the list is so fucking long and boring and irritating.

I mean what is it going to take to get people to stop focusing on idiotic groups like the teabaggers. Why don’t we hear about other groups that threaten the spirit of this country. You know, there are many!

I’ll tell you why. Because everyone who spews their shit about groups like the teabaggers is choking down what the ptb’s msm wants you to. If it were the kkk or some other group “in the news” everyone would just open their pie holes and suck down the filth until they choked and puked it back up but that wouldn’t matter cause their mouths are wide open for another round of subterfuge and another choking session.

We are being entertained while the duopoly we supposedly elect thieve away our God given rights via the msm.

I don’t know what to do to change anything at this point (I’m sure it will come down to revolution). But I am sure I know what NOT to do.

What’s the flavor of the day? Charlie Sheen. Look in the mirror and see the infant you are being made into.

This is long, I know, but please forgive.

Thank you for saying what I was wanting to post, but you beat me to it. (Cursing like a Pastafarian Pirate here who has lost its mind, and I think that is a good thing. Someone has to do it. he he he….)

But to add a few things by way of asking few questions of Mr. Boehner, regarding his statement, “We’ve given them a machine gun and put it right at the heads of the local officials and they really have their hands tied.”

    Let’s dissect his statement.

What exactly do you mean, Mr. Boehner? Are you panicking and covering, or performing a georgeW-ism?

I would like to know who gave the said machine gun to whom, who put the said machine gun at the local officials’ heads, and who has their hands tied?

I read your statement, Mr. Boehner, as if you gave them (who are “them”?) a machine gun (for whatever reason) and the missing noun or pronoun put it at the heads of local officials.

Did you mean you gave a machine gun to people who demand fair pay and fair benefits for fair work, and that the fairly paid workers put said machine gun to local officials heads, and the local officials have their hands tied?

Or did you mean you gave said machine gun to “them” (again whoever they are) who are not workers to point at local officials’ heads?

And while I am at it, why would a ‘slaver’ give a gun to a ‘slave’, sir?

And since when have unions really have much to do with “local officials”? I have always thought and remembered that unions/workers had to argue with the local steel mills or coal mines (private interests running everything locally…check out the Ludlow Massacre) for fair treatment for fair work. Losing said argument, they strike, and after striking, they lose again usually getting the shit beat out of them by scabs and hired goons such as the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency or the Pinkertons with machine guns paid for by the Rockefellers, Carnegies, Vanderbilts, Morgans, and Mellons, and the like all of whom paid for or were supported by the local state militia or even by the Federal government.

The unions ultimately managed to go to the Courts for a decision in their favor. So much for the said machine gun that you implied is held at the local officials head when Federal Courts made the final decisions regarding labor/pay disputes in the past!

And who really has their hands tied?

Did you mean the Uber-Rich who have no interest for anyone or anything other than their own special interests?

Did you mean the local apparatchiks who by their bureaucracy usually don’t solve anything…they, who only obfuscate and/or postpone or tax a decision in order to maintain revenue for their position that we pay for?

Or did you mean the People who have who have their hands tied by SOS, such as yourself, who try to meet the ridiculously sky-rocketing costs of living and restricted freedoms?

Enquiring minds wanna know now, so, please sir, answer the questions put before you.

    Hopefully not Signed as,

    Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin,

    otherwise read as,

    A baited banker thus desponds,
From his own hand foresees his fall,
    They have his soul, who have his bonds;
‘Tis like the writing on the wall.

P.S. Check out Tuxedomoon’s 1978 “No Tears” …for the creatures of the night, my eyes are dry, bye bye. no tears, uh uh, no no, bye bye, MY EYES ARE DRY!

Youtube has a good post of the mentioned song.

Democracy itself is like a WMD to Republicans. They are scared because uncertainty exists in a democracy because people who have different views from them share power. This is why Republicans want total control over our democracy (in which case it would not be a democracy). They want to eliminate any uncertainty by eliminating the other side.

Machine guns don’t kill people. Politicians on the take kill people.

Another gun analogy from a fucking right wing loser.

It’s not right wing rhetoric. Read what FDR said, he was right on. Taxpayer money shouldn’t pay union dues. I pay taxes and don’t want the unions getting them. Collective bargaining against the taxpayer should be quelled.

Beck is an antagonist and representative of no one. Accepting government services in no way obligates one morally to back government employee unions.

I’m for the firemen but against them being unionized. I can do that can’t I? Unions belong only in the private sector.

Your comments about drones and other things serves only to widen the argument. We’re talking only about unions.

Boehner again stiffens and spews. What a tragedy of leadership and joke before the nation and world.

more class warfare and this time these boners are trying to divide working people! The Weeper of the House should admit that corporations have supressed wages in the private sector while an open government and the fact that later administrations could uncover the plotting against unions while corporation meet safely in their closet to plot against working Americans!

Wow an insult. On a comment board. You must be a genius.

Could you please give me even one example of liberals at that level of government using that kind of speech, particularly under the current circumstances?

    Thought not.

I wasn’t saying conservative politics is wrong or bad, just that the people that practice them make the most disgusting comments towards human beings imaginable. Liberal politicians do not constantly tell people that their personal lives are wrong, nor do they create laws to punish women, the poor and minorities while making sure that the wealthy don’t lose a penny.

Corruption is a detestable facet of all sides of politics, but the public hatred and punishment of the lower and middle classes belongs to one group alone.

Didn’t mean to insult you, that’s why I wrote with all due respect.

It could be said the repubs and dems represent a dysfunctional abusive relationship. The repubs are the alcoholics and the dems are the enablers. A pathetic relationship that gets very little done. And for people to think that their party is out to do all they can for the working men and women of this country is naive.

unions have machine guns pointed at local officials? well then someone should pull the trigger!

  • overdoneputaforkinit

I can see for profit police raiding your house, planting 1/4 ounce of marijuana and “finding” it, so they can steal all your stuff under forfeiture laws.

Houses mysteriously catching on fire, and one of the local for profit fire departments just happens to be nearby and can put it out before the other fire companies will arrive. If you pay them $5000 on the spot.

Corporate “persons” paying your for-profit school to teach only creationism and having mandatory Bible class. And political class which teaches the benefits of conservatism and liberals are communist bastards responsible for all bad events.

And privatize social security, so the Wall Street banks can bet your retirement on mortgage derivative securities.
