A new video from an anti-abortion group begins with this tagline: “Imagine the government giving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars every year to a company that does this.”

A nurse then plops a cute bunny into a blender, and the screen fades to black as the blender ostensibly churchs the bunny up.

This sensational video is from the American Life League, an anti-abortion advocacy group that’s taken aim on government funding for Planned Parenthood, via the Title X program.

What do cute bunnies have to do with Title X, a 40-year-old family planning program created by Republicans, which ensures that low-income women have access to family planning and health care?

While some conservative bloggers have predicted this video will “make pro-abortionists see red,” this bizarre scenario has left some pro-choice activists more confused.

Title X does not only fund Planned Parenthood but also public health centers across the country to allow low-income women access to breast exams, Pap tests, STI checks, and birth control.

As a result, Title X actually prevents the need for women to have abortions.

If Title X has nothing to do with abortion, except that it provides care to prevent abortions, it is unclear why the Tea Party and the American Life League would oppose it.

Amie Newman, a reproductive rights advocate and contributor to RH Reality Check, told Raw Story what she thinks the American Life League was trying to accomplish with their video:

“All they needed was a blender and a bunny, and they’ve created a lie and a smokescreen,” she said.

“They’re not fighting against an evil abortion empire. They’re looking to do away with a necessary, compassionate safety net program which helps pay for health care for millions of Americans because they do not believe that any women in this country should be allowed to use birth control or access annual exams, Pap tests and STI checks with taxpayer funding.”

“They should just be honest about it,” she concluded.

This video is from the American Life League, an anti-abortion advocacy organization.

So… how can a group consider itself pro-life if it blends a bunny?

  • Anonymous

SO what else would a group do that prays to a long dead illegitimate middle easterner while worshipping at the foot of the instrument of death death? Crazy does as crazy is!

  • FieryLocks

The bunny is not in a uterus so the fetus worshipers don’t care. Same thing applies to kids outside of the uterus…they could care less.

  • Anonymous

I think the money would be better spent building a bigger blender and putting all of the wacko pro-lifers in it.

Problem is, where do you dump all the crap that’s gonna come out?

  • dk504

So these pro-life psychos better watch out for the ASPCA. They will come down on them like a ton of fucking bricks. Endangering animals lives is something The Humane Society’s take VERY seriously. And I give alot of money to as many groups all over the country because of fuck sticks like this.
What makes these people any different from Michael Vick? Love to a cease and desist order immediately. PIGS.

  • Anonymous

“pro-life” groups in particular and the gop in general have declared war on women everywhere. I wonder what their mothers would say?

  • Mein Furor

Pro-life groups are to life as the Patriot Act is to patriotism; they both have benevolent names, but in fact are distracting decoys hiding malevolent deeds.

  • kiboshki

So is the bunny a metaphor for freedom? Because “grinding up the rights of American citizens” seems to be what the reichwing is telling me they support with this ad.

  • Irish Stewart

Guys…they don’t really blend up the bunny. Seriously.

“…the screen fades to black as the blender ostensibly churchs (sic) the bunny up.”

ostensibly means ‘outwardly appearing as such; professed; pretended’

They’re just trying to invoke an emotional response.

That’s sick. There is absolutely no parallel. Really, the Bunny represents a Christian mind, the blender, their church. The Christian mind plays funny tricks on them.

  • H.P. Loathecraft

Same place they put radioactive waste.

I swear, it get worse every day. Insanity rules this country. The inmates are loose and elect each other to public offices while the sane just gawk in disbelief.

  • Anonymous

I dislike these people a whole lot less than I dislike the organization PETA. That’s a hard thing to comprehend, because PETA tends toward serious insanity as well.

  • Anonymous

nothing. they are walking ten paces behind in burka and only speak when spoken to.

  • Anonymous

Anti abortionist don’t make sense with their bunny/mixer dog and pony show, but then their whole issue doesn’t make sense. Especially when you realize their concern ends when the child is born. They have no concerns for any of the child’s siblings or mother and their living conditions. The anti abortionists are just senseless! Once again I am forced to tell the smug arrogant idiots NO UTERUS NO OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • H.P. Loathecraft

They *ostensibly* ostensibly ground up the bunny, you mean. We weren’t there.
Perhaps the crew wrapped up the shoot with a scrumptious bunny fondue with kitten skewers. We. Just. Don’t. Know.

  • Anonymous

I used to raise rabbits. the one in the blender would be about 12 weeks old. Let them use a three month old person in the blender ad and i might pay more attention to it.

  • Anonymous

Your going to need a Vita-Mix for that job. Rabbit pate could be good.

  • H.P. Loathecraft

At least PETA actually is pro-life as they claim, as opposed to pro-zygote/anti-woman.

  • Guest

I am believing more and more on a daily basis that the human race is insane! ’nuff said….

Given the traditional dislike that many Republicans harbor towards minorities, you’d think they would welcome the chance to reduce their populations via birth control, abortions, etc.

But now it seems they are more interested in increasing the numbers within those populations, courtesy of eliminating Federal funding for those programs.

Methinks Republicans are anticipating a return of slavery, perhaps?

  • http://twitter.com/honorablelordk Karim Walker

American Life League…what a misnomer is ever there was one.

  • http://www.ameridane.org/ thingwarbler

Uh, no, we figured that out all by ourselves. The severely screwed-up imagery (and the gag reflex) remains, however, and that’s what we’re trying to understand: who does the bunny represent? What is the blender? Who is pushing the button? Who is supposed to drink that smoothie? Did they really think this would convince anyone that the uterus police are the good guys? Just like most of the rhetoric from the forced birther crowd, the video makes no sense at all, so at least there’s that bit of consistency.

Babies in blenders! What a wonderful way to make abortion more affordable!

  • Anonymous

    Make them all fertilizer.

  • Scuby

    Fish food!!!

  • Ignatzfattis

I always thought that was a little odd -so will future worshippers of Abraham Lincoln wear little silver Derringers around their necks, and followers of Elvis pray to a big Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich?

  • MsBJns

What in the Hell is this all about? Planned Parenthood covers abortions on Rabbits? This is beyond stupid and pointless. Much like Republicans.

  • Anonymous

Isn’t an act like this a pre-cursor to the mindset of a serial killer?

    {alarm sound} {red flags shooting up}

    {Fade in: Scene from Fatal Attraction….}

  • Anonymous

They’re against birth control because, bottom line, they don’t want anyone to enjoy their sexuality. They want the proposition of sex to have so many drawbacks and terrible repercussions that people will come to hate the thought of sex and thus become just like these twisted people.

  • Anonymous

    What A-holes.

  • Anonymous

    They’re not “pro-life”. They’re anti-choice.

  • Anonymous

And any thrift store used blender will do, making it even more affordable!

  • Anonymous

I guess George Carlin was right, the sanctity of life is, at best, highly selective.

  • Anonymous

These “pro-life” people are pro-war and pro-death penalty. Their hypocrisy knows no limits. They should have an advertisement featuring an un-retouched photograph of blown up Pakistani and Iraqi babies and women and voice over saying imagine the government giving 700 billion tax dollars to an organization that has killed over a hundred thousand woman and children in the past ten years. They do. It’s called the Pentagon.

As a mother & prolifer I am against abortion! Abortion kills an innocent human being! No bunnies was hurt in the making of that video, but everyday over 3,600 helpless human beings are killed through abortion. Declared war on women? How about the MILLIONS of women who arent here because they were murdered through abortion? NOT just a blob of cells This movie clip ~ Beating Heart in Slow Motion: 4 1/2 Weeks Pregnant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0WNRR-epPI comes from the BEST window into the womb DVD~ The Biology of Prenatal Development http://bit.ly/fA0dW1

  • morty62

They better not have hurt that bunny!

  • http://twitter.com/RealAmberDawn Amber Dawn

WE MUST STOP PLANNED PARENTHOOD! …from putting bunnies in blenders.

  • Anonymous

Shannon, come on and give us some credit. Do you seriously believe anyone here is a Tea Bagger or Repuke who would believe they really churned up a bunny?

  • My3Cats

This is perverse. Those who thought this ad up and those who participated in making it are psychopathic. I doubt they put a bunny in a blender, but the idea of alluding to this act of cruelty to make a point about the sanctity of life is insane.

  • Anonymous

It simply boggles my mind that so many get totally bent out of shape and irate over the idea of killing an innocent ANIMAL, but are totally ok with killing an innocent HUMAN BEING. So, if there’s a chance it may be born into less than ideal circumstances, it’s acceptable to kill it? I’m ‘Pro Choice’…choosing if you are ready for the responsibility of having a child BEFORE you engage in the act, not AFTER you enjoyed the pleasure, then deciding you don’t want, or can’t handle, the consequences.

  • http://twitter.com/RooForLife RooForLife

anti abortion because abortion isnt the only choice.

  • Anonymous

Blah blah blah, I have an unrealistic worldview. Blah blah blah, I am only capable of rudimentary thought and logic. Blah blah, nuance is totally lost on me. Blah, my ideology trumps yours because… well just because.

Sorry to be flippant about such a serious subject, but I am so over “you people”. What is your stance on wars of aggression, the death penalty, the dismantling of social safety nets like Title X? Are you a one a one trick pony, outraged by other peoples personal choices?

  • Irish Stewart

Not necessarily teabaggers or RWNJs but, considering some earlier comments about PETA being upset, I think a couple of people didn’t actually read the article.

  • AnzaSummer

I think that’s their ultimate goal. I’m looking forward to seeing the faces of Clarence Thomas and Michael Steel as they’re hauled from their nice little white collar lives by their republican bretheran and be placed at some grubby labor job to earn their $3.00/day. Screaming all the way “but we’re just like you!” In the eyes of the racist republicans (I know it’s redundant) only lily white, protestant men are their equals. Anyone else might be seen as a useful tool, but once we have the new world order, all those “token” people are gonna learn that they did everything they could to assist an enemy that would end up laughing and mocking them.

If you’re REALLY “pro-life”, then prove it by doing the following.

Offer to carry the zygote/fetus of a pregnant woman who would undergo an abortion otherwise.

Have this done at your financial cost, not hers.

Sign a legally binding agreement offering to take care of ALL the zygote/fetus/child’s expenses until the age of 18.

Agree to this funding even if the original biological mother decides to take the zygote/fetus/child back from you at any time before the 18th birthday.

Only when you do all the above can you logically call yourself “pro-life”.

  • Anonymous

Your headline writer needs some maturing.

As far as reality is concerned, half of those aborted babies are women. What about their health?

Do Raw readers really care more about bunnies than babies? Come on! Really? You’d rather see a 7-pound nearborn baby girl in that blender than a bunny? How SICK can you be?

Wow, your writers need work. Maybe your readers do too. Think about that baby in the womb, because you were there once, every one of you.

    Good grief.

  • AnzaSummer

Your own holy book in the chapter of judges, values an unborn glop the same as an oxen. If you’re against abortion, by all means, don’t have one. Get your hands off my body.

  • http://twitter.com/RealAmberDawn Amber Dawn

but what if the fetus, or as you like to call it, child…is gay???

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L3CO7EDEIVXRO47OAWUBUUBJXA Textynn Textynn

When I was a young woman I got pregnant before I was a tenured teacher. I lost my job because of it. My husband left me because we lost all that income basically. Our life spiraled into financial disaster because we had moved across country for that job and incurred heavy debt. I then had no health care and tried to get doctors to see me until I figured out what was next. They wouldn’t even see me for a check up without full payment of the delivery up front which was many thousands of dollars. I found out this was SOP in two states. I ended up homeless and pregnant for a while. I looked for a job pregnant. That was a joke. This society is brutal on pregnant women. And that is less than half the story. Sure I could have been smarter but I was young and had no idea what a can of worms I was getting into.

If these people really cared about the unborn they would declare war against all the horrible unfair problems young women deal with when pregnant. It’s a freaking nightmare

  • http://twitter.com/RealAmberDawn Amber Dawn

The headline writer, like myself, probably doesn’t consider a fetus to be male or female. Really, it’s just a collection of alien-like looking cells until it’s born.
