Actor Mel Gibson has reportedly negotiated a plea deal with L.A. prosecutors to avoid jail time in his domestic violence case. Gibson’s lawyers say he plans to plead guilty on Wednesday to battery charges, admitting that he hit Oksana Grigorieva, his one-time girlfriend and the mother of his youngest child.

Gibson’s lawyers say that he’s currently in Guatemala working on a project to help save the rain forest, but will return in time for Thursday’s hearing.
