LOS ANGELES – Police said Tuesday they have identified eight more women they believe may have been murdered by a serial killer who terrorized Los Angeles for years known as the “Grim Sleeper.”

Los Angeles police department sources said that chief Charlie Beck on Tuesday would release photos of new potential victims of Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57.

Franklin already is accused of killing 10 women in south Los Angeles over more than 20 years, most of them prostitutes. Franklin, who was arrested in his home in Los Angeles on July 7, 2007 has pleaded not guilty in the killings of the 10 women.

The eight additional suspected victims are connected to the suspect by “strong circumstantial evidence recovered at Franklin’s residence,” police said.

Neighbors have described Franklin as pleasant; police dubbed him the “Grim Sleeper” because apparently he put a hold on his killings between 1988 and 2002.

Franklin is believed to have sexually assaulted his alleged victims before or after killing them.
