Greg Mortenson, co-author of the bestseller Three Cups of Tea has been hospitalized for heart surgery and has canceled a major speaking engagement in Massachusetts. Mortenson was scheduled to address the Massachusetts Conference United Church of Christ, but had to back out in order to undergo surgical repair of a hole in his heart.

Recently, a “60 Minutes” report raised questions about the veracity of Mortenson’s memoir. Also, Montana’s attorney general has launched an inquiry into possible financial irregularities involving Mortenson’s charity. Allegedly, proceeds raised by the charity were used to charter private jets and purchase equipment and materials to promote Mortenson’s books. The funds were ostensibly to go to the construction of schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Mortenson denies any wrongdoing.
