A crowd of around 500 protesters added the caption “I’m the Tea Party’s wallet” to the name plate of David H. Koch Theatre in New York during a so-called “guerrilla drive-in” on Wednesday night.

Those who attended the “guerrilla drive-in” watched a short film about the Koch brothers, which was projected on the outside wall of the theater, before parading around the building and eventually “rebranding” it.

David and Charles Koch are owners of the energy company Koch Industries. The brothers were principle financiers of Wisconsin’s Republican Governor Scott Walker and the tea party movement. They are also supporters of free market groups like Americans for Prosperity, the Cato Institute, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and the Reason Foundation.

The New York State Theatre at the Lincoln Center was renamed the David H. Koch Theater after receiving a $100 million dollar donation from David Koch in 2008.

The “guerrilla drive-in” was organized by Brave New Foundation’s “Koch Brothers Exposed” project, headed by documentary filmmaker Robert Greenwald. It also featured performances by the radical marching band Rude Mechanical Orchestra and a sermon by Rev. Billy of the Church of Earthalujah, formerly known as the Church of Stop Shopping.

“We’re here because we love the Earth and we love our city,” Rev. Billy shouted into his microphone, according to Kristen Gwynne of AlterNet. “This must stop!”

“We realize the Koch brothers spend a lot of money to put their names on buildings but not other places they give their money – the Tea Party and union busting,” Political Director of Brave New Foundation Tenene Allison said.

The event lasted until around 9pm, when police arrived and the crowd dispersed. Rev. Billy was reportedly the only individual arrested.
