Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes feared being bombed by ‘those gays’

Roger Ailes, the President of the Fox News Channel, had bomb-proof glass installed in his office because of fears he would be attacked by gay activists, according to a former colleague.

Dan Cooper, a former managing editor at Fox News, told Rolling Stone that Ailes insisted on having bomb-proof glass installed in his second story office windows in Manhattan.

“They’ll be down there protesting,” Ailes allegedly said. “Those gays.”

Ailes worked as a media consultant for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush before being hired by Rupert Murdoch in 1996 to create the Fox News Channel.

The June 8 issue of Rolling Stone will feature an article by Tim Dickinson about how Ailes created the Fox News “fear factory.”

In another lengthy article about Ailes published online Sunday, the New York Magazine cited a “Republican close to Ailes” who claimed that Ailes though former Alaska governor Sarah Palin was “stupid,” “an idiot” and did nothing to “elevate the conservative movement.”

An executive of Fox News quickly disputed the claim, saying that Ailes thought highly of Palin.
