Alex Trebek, the 71-year-old host of popular quiz show “Jeopardy” injured himself chasing down an intruder who broke into his hotel room early Wednesday morning, according to the CNN Marquee Blog.

At 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Trebek was awakened when a female intruder broke into his room and attempted to make off with jewelry and cash. The TV host chased the 56-year-old suspect down the hotel corridor but fell, injuring one leg and tearing the Achilles tendon in the other. Hotel security was alerted and the alleged thief, identified as Lucinda Moyers, was apprehended before she could leave the building.

Trebek appeared on crutches later in the duty when hosting the National Geographic World Championship, but assured viewers and participants that he would be fine. He is scheduled to have surgery to repair the torn tendon on Friday.
