Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) appeared on CNN Wednesday to expand on why he did not vote to support the plan to raise the debt ceiling and cut spending.

“This legislation does deficit reduction on the backs of the elderly, the sick, the children and some of the most vulnerable people in our country,” Sanders told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “It is extremely unfair.”

Sanders insisted that President Barack Obama didn’t have his back against the wall to accept the deal, and that jobs would be lost as a result of the legislation.

“I think everybody understands, who studies this issue, that this is a huge win for right-wing Republicans,” he said.
