Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) is holding a National Day of Prayer at Reliant Stadium in Houston Saturday. Some see the controversial event as an attempt to claim some limelight ahead of declaring a bid for the GOP’s 2012 nomination for the presidency.

Progressive groups have called the event “inappropriate.” The ACLU is holding a counter-event Saturday, and one group attempted to sue Perry to stop him from holding the event.

The roster of religious extremists slated to attend the event has also stirred controversy.
