Salvatore Purpura, the treasurer of Stephen Colbert’s Super PAC — called Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow — has resigned from his position to join Texas Governor Rick Perry’s presidential committee, according to Politico.

“We’re not surprised,” Colbert said in an email to Politico. “Sal is the best in the business. That’s why we went with him.”

“We’re happy for Sal and we are even happier that Governor Parry has sent the clear signal of which super PAC he trusts to receive all that unlimited money waiting to pour in on his behalf. Loud and clear, sir. Unofficially, loud and clear.”

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) gave Colbert permission to set up his so-called Super PAC in June, allowing him to use unlimited donations from corporations and individuals on independent expenditures to support or oppose candidates.

The first TV ad produced by Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow urged Iowans to write-in “Rick Parry” at the Ames Straw Poll.

“On August 13, write-in Rick Parry. That’s Parry, with an ‘A’ — for America.”

The group’s second TV ad criticized “outside groups like Jobs for Iowa” for using “cheap cornography” to promote the presidential candidacy of Gov. Perry.
