MSNBC host Ed Schultz cited an Associated Press report on Monday that stated Congressional Republicans wanted to raise taxes on nearly 50 percent of Americans. Although Republicans fought hard to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, they said they do not approve of extending the payroll tax break.

Schultz’s guest, Reuters columnist and economist David Cay Johnson, agreed that this was the most clear cut position by Republicans that they favored the rich.

“This is the third time in a year Republicans have made it clear what they’re real view of the economy is: The rich do not have enough and the way to get more for the rich is to take from those who have less,” Johnson added.
