A man shot dead five members of the same family who had gathered in a Lebanon cemetery on Tuesday to mark the end of Ramadan, a security official said, adding that it was over a land dispute.

The family had gone to the cemetery at a village in the east of the country to mark the first day of the feast of Eid al-Fitr at the end of the holy fasting Muslim month, when relatives traditionally visit family graves.

The security official said suspect Fayez Issa went to the burial ground at Al-Khraybeh in the Bekaa valley area where members of the Kanaan family had gathered to pay their respects.

He said Issa then allegedly shot dead five people, among them a woman and a child, and wounded three more, one seriously.

The gunman then fled before security forces arrived on the scene.
