Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) apparently disagrees with his own memory.
The House Oversight Committee Chairman indicated in the past that he trusts News Corp, saying he “personally knows Rupert Murdoch.”
But when asked Tuesday morning on C-SPAN if his conflict of interest led to him declining an investigation into News Corp’s alleged phone hacking, Issa suddenly changed his tune.
“Well, first of all, I don’t believe I said that,” Issa said. “I don’t know Rupert Murdoch. I believe I’ve met him on one occasion.”
Issa, who announced that he would investigate the Obama Administration over bankrupted company Solyndra and Lightsquared, said in 2010, “I know Rupert Murdoch” when Think Progress asked him about a potential probe into a Saudi Arabian prince’s ownership stake in News Corp.
