Several hundred University of California students dressed in black and lay down on the concrete in a silent protest of an “inherently racist” bake sale hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans.

The student group intentionally sold baked goods at different prices based on race and gender to oppose a bill allowing California public schools to consider race, ethnicity and gender in admissions as long as no preference is given.

The Republican student group hosted the “Increase the Diversity” bake sale, with pastries being sold for white men for $2, Asian men for $1.50, Latino men for $1, black men for $0.75 and Native American men for $0.25. All women will get $0.25 off those prices.
