First lady Michelle Obama slipped out and took a half-hour incognito shopping trip at Target in Alexandria, Virginia Thursday evening.

AP photographer Charles Dharapak captured an image of Obama in the store, pushing her cart and wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap pulled low. He declined to say whether he had been tipped off about the shopping trip by the White House, or if he had found Obama on his own.

Secret Service was present in the store, and Obama shopped with an assistant. Only her cashier recognized her.

“It is not uncommon for the First Lady to slip out to run an errand, eat at a local restaurant or otherwise enjoy the city outside the White House gates,” Kristina Schake, communications director for the First Lady, told CBS News.
