Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert applauded Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain for making the difficult daily choice not to be gay.

“To think that gay is a choice, I don’t know how to respond to that,” The View co-host Joy Behar told Cain Tuesday. “I mean, don’t think anybody in this world wants to be gay considering all the vilification that is brought upon someone who is gay. Why would you choose that?”

“Well, you show me the science that it’s not and I could be persuaded,” Cain replied. “Right now it’s my opinion against the opinions of others who feel differently. That’s just a difference of opinions.”

“That is a huge gaffe for Cain: a Republican candidate acknowledging science,” Colbert joked.

“I happen to remember the exact moment that I chose to be a straight, right-handed, Caucasian male… If skin color isn’t a choice, how do you explain John Boehner?”

He added: “Herman Cain is telling us with this statement, that every day he gets up and chooses not to be gay. Who knows what will happen tomorrow? Because there is one guy out there that Herman Cain seems to have a crush on. It’s Herman Cain.”
