UPDATE: 3:57 a.m. ET — Boston Globe reporters clarify what happened in Boston early Tuesday morning:

About 10 minutes later, the first officers entered the park and surrounded the group. Evans [the police superintendent], using a loudspeaker, gave one more warning and then each protester was individually put on his or her stomach, cable-tied, and dragged off as others tore down tents and arrested and detained people on the fringe of the park.

UPDATE: 3:26 a.m. ET — We’ve seen several reports on Twitter now that the situation has calmed down in Seattle, Dallas, Atlanta and St. Louis. ‘Occupy Boston’ protesters were not as lucky (see below).

UPDATE: 3:11 a.m. ET — @OccupySeattle just tweeted:

No arrests tonight. Mayor’s Office has come down to let everyone know that, but they “can’t say the same for tomorrow night.”

UPDATE: 3:08 a.m. ET — According to hundreds of reports on Twitter, several ‘Occupy’ sites in several major U.S. cites are being threatened by local police. We’ll bring you more info as soon as we can.

UPDATE: 2:50 a.m. ET — Protesters onsite at ‘Occupy Seattle’ fear arrest tonight:

Despite what the Mayor’s office said the police are NOT backing down and will arrest people tonight according to the Lieutenant on site.

Reports are coming in that Occupy Boston protesters are being surrounded by the police.
