Mitt Romney’s campaign released a new web video on Wednesday highlighting Rick Perry’s poor debate performance, only to pull the video offline later that day.
The ad showed clips of Perry getting tongue-tied, rambling and stumbling over his words during the recent Republican presidential debates. The clips of Perry were interspersed with pundits commenting on his poor performance, including Fox News’ Brit Hume saying, “Perry did really throw up all over himself in the debate.”
The ad ended with the text, “Rick Perry: Ready to lead?”
Romney and Perry, both considered frontrunners, have exchanged strong words at nearly every presidential debate this year. During the CNN debate in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, Perry accused Romney of being hypocritical for hiring undocumented workers.
“And Mitt, you lose all of your standing from my perspective because you hired illegals in your home and you knew about it for a year,” Perry said.
“And the idea that you stand here before us and talk about that you’re strong on immigration is on its face, the height of hypocrisy.”
Both candidates then tried to talk over each other. Eventually, Romney was able to speak.
“This is been a tough couple of debates for Rick and I understand that,” Romney shot back. “So you’re going to get testy… I suggest if you want to be president of the United States then you got to let both people speak. So, let me speak.”
