By passing the stiffest anti-immigration laws in the country, Alabama has crippled its agricultural sector by driving away the only source of labor for farms. Hispanic immigrants, both legal and illegal, have fled the state in droves ahead of the law, which makes it a crime to even rent property to illegal immigrants.

Crops are rotting in the fields because Alabama farmers can’t find workers to harvest them. Colbert warned that this would happen in Congressional testimony last year, and has made a giant banner to remind us all of that. He says that some people might see this as a case of Alabama reaping what it’s sown, except of course that there are no farm laborers left to reap it.
