A Twitter account impersonating Fox News host Greg Gutfeld tweeted out a homophobic slur on Sunday and the story was picked up by the LGBT news site Back2Stonewall.

The hoax account tweeted “SHUDDUP FAGGOT” to a Twitter user he was arguing with and someone then sent a cropped screenshot of the message to Back2Stonewall.

The fake Twitter account used an uppercase “I” instead of an “l” in Gutfeld’s last name. In response to the story, the Fox News host identified the fake account, noting that the hoax account had a drastically different amount of followers and number of tweets.

The tweet originating from the fake account comes a week after Gutfeld taunted Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine via Twitter.

“Dear Fox News, don’t play our music on your evil fucking channel ever again. Thank you,” the singer, an advocate for LGBT rights, wrote after the network used one of his band’s songs.

Gutfeld responded by saying that “Maroon 5 is just bad music.”

“Why did Maroon 5 cross the road? because crappy music is legal there!” he tweeted.

CORRECTION: Previous version of this story incorrectly stated it was Greg Gutfeld who sent the homophobic message. The tweet was sent out by a fake Twitter account, not the actual account used by Gutfeld. The author apologizes for the error. Back2Stonewall has also retracted and apologized for the mistake.
