A rare magnitude 4.7 earthquake shook the central US state of Oklahoma early Saturday, the US Geological Survey reported.

The epicenter of the tremor, which occurred at 2:12 am (0712 GMT), was located nine kilometers (six miles) north of the town of Prague, the agency said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The reading was based on the open-ended Moment Magnitude scale, now used by US seismologists, which measures the area of the fault that ruptured and the total energy released.
