In an interview aired Monday evening, ABC News’ Diana Sawyer visited Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and her husband Mark Kelly to discuss the congresswoman’s recovery for the first time from her near death experience in last January’s deadly shooting.

When Sawyer asked for a word that would describe her husband, the resilient congresswman said, “Brave.”

“That’s what I think of when I think of you too,” Kelly responded. “Tough as nails.”

Giffords and Kelly are releasing a new book titled “Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope” about their relationship in the aftermath of the shooting incidents. Giffords is also planning to run for re-election and will decide by the May 2012 deadline.

Correction: A prior version of this post said Giffords described herself as brave. She was describing her husband.
