A Russian newsreader has been fired after she “flipped the bird” to the camera after mentioning President Barack Obama, according to the Telegraph.

Tatyana Limanova, an award-winning newsreader, was talking about Russian President Dmitry Medvedev assuming the chairmanship of the Asia Pacific Cooperation organization. When she mentioned the post was previously “held by Barack Obama,” Limanova raised her arm and extended her middle finger.

REN TV announced her firing on Thursday after the video went viral, calling her actions “unacceptable” and “unprofessional”.

“On 14 November during the ‘News 24′ programme the presenter Limanova made an unacceptable gesture that was a synonym for an offensive expression,” it said in a statement.

The channel claimed the newsreader intended to give the finger to her colleagues in the studio, not Obama.

“It had no subtext and was not linked with the news that Limanova was reading at that moment,” the channel said.
