Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain may be out of the race, but his 15 minutes of fame are not over yet.
Fox 5 Atlanta reported Sunday that the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO is prepared to endorse Newt Gingrich on Monday.
Gingrich is planning to hold a news conference Monday at 2 p.m. ET following a meeting with business mogul Donald Trump. It wasn’t clear if the endorsement would happen at that time.
In a speech Saturday announcing he was dropping out of the race, Cain said he had spoken to several of the candidates and would endorse in the near future.
The endorsement — if it happens — will not come as a surprise because the two men have a fondness for each other, and even participated in a Lincoln-Douglas style debate together.
Gingrich released a statement praising Cain Saturday, saying he had “elevated the dialogue.”
“I am proud to know Herman Cain and consider him a friend,” Gingrich said. “I know from having worked with him for more than a decade he will continue to be a powerful voice in the conservative movement for years to come.”
