After seeing GOP presidential candidate after candidate decline to attend, Donald Trump withdrew himself from moderating the December 27th Newsmax debate, according to published reports on Fox News and CNN Tuesday afternoon.

Only Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum had indicated they would be at the debate engineered by The Apprentice host. This past weekend, Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) added herself to a list of Mitt Romney, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), and Jon Huntsman refusing to take part.

The news may come as a surprise to Newsmax, whose founder and CEO Christopher Ruddy promised Monday that the debate would still go on.

“It will be a debate, conversational style,” Ruddy said in an e-mail to Reuters .
