Virginia GOP Senate candidate George Allen may want to make sure he turns off the camera the next time he chats with voters.

In what could amount to a costly mistake in his race against Tim Kaine (D) next year, Allen accidentally filmed himself referring to a chat with voters as “tortuous.”

While his campaign told him that voters were having problems with the livestream, Allen jokingly said, “reindeers in the server, elves?”

“Oh God, tortuous,” he added.

Coming into Wednesday, Allen held a slight lead over Kaine in the latest Quinnipiac poll. Both men were former governors of Virginia.

Allen lost his Senate seat in 2006 to current Senator Jim Webb (D), seeing his numbers plunge during that campaign after he called an Indian-American man “macaca” during a public event.
