It hasn’t been the most hospitable week on the campaign trail in Iowa for Newt Gingrich.

A day after being a called a “fucking asshole” by a man at a grocery store, the former House Speaker’s press conference at the Iowa Statehouse was hijacked by “Occupy” protesters Wednesday morning.

While receiving an endorsement from Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen (R), Gingrich was suddenly bombarded with a shout of “mic check” from a man rushing towards him.

“We’re taking over this press conference,” the individual said, before security grabbed and removed him from the room.

Other protesters began shouting, “Put people first,” before they were also taken away by security.

Gingrich has repeatedly been “mic checked” by protesters on the campaign trail. Last week he received one at the University of Iowa, and was also interrupted by the chant at Harvard University in November.

Gingrich also encountered a gay voter Tuesday afternoon, telling him that if gay marriage is his top issue in 2012, he should vote for President Barack Obama instead.
