Stray cats are common throughout New York City. But the same certainly can’t be said for stray wolves.

According to the New York Daily News, an illegal wolf was found walking the streets of Brooklyn Tuesday evening. It was an unusual occurrence as cops located the animal, which was wearing a collar and a chain.

In New York, wolf-dog hybrids are illegal to own, as they are considered wild animals.

New York Animal Care and Control spokesman Richard Gentles says finding one is rare and added that no one has claimed her.

“She’s in an unfamiliar environment so she’s nervous and shy, but otherwise she’s in good condition,” he said.

Gentles also said that the wolf, “Lady” as folks have called her, will be sent to an unwanted wolf dog sanctuary.
