Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich’s campaign will be getting a boost from Alaska’s former “first dude.”

ABC News reported on Monday that Todd Palin, husband of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will endorse the former House Speaker.

Todd Palin told ABC News that he respects Gingrich due to the criticism he faced as Speaker of the House during the 1990s.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, had not yet decided “who is best able to go up against Barack Obama,” her husband said.

Gingrich recently said that he would consider the former Alaska governor for a cabinet position or even vice president. Republican presidential nominee John McCain lost in 2008 after selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate.

McCain has already endorsed Gingrich rival Mitt Romney.
