The Definitely Not Coordinating With Stephen Colbert Super PAC has released a new TV ad in South Carolina that urges people to vote for Herman Cain in the upcoming Republican primary.
The 30-second ad states that the people of South Carolina are frustrated with the current selection of Republican candidates.
“Thankfully, there is one name that stands for true Americanimity, Herman Cain,” it adds, showing a picture of Colbert.
Colbert announced the formation of his exploratory committee to run for President of the United States of South Carolina last week, and handed his political action committee over to Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
“Tragic new reports show that South Carolinians can sometimes go for several minutes at a stretch without seeing a single political ad,” Stewart said in a statement on Monday night.
Colbert has been using his satirical candidacy to bash the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The court held that political spending was free speech. It allowed corporations and other groups to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections, so long as their actions were not directly coordinated with a candidate’s campaign.
“Money equals speech,” Colbert told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos Sunday. “Therefore the more money you have, the more you can speak. That just stands to reason.”
