Stewart likens SOPA to ‘filling penises with cement’

On Wednesday night’s The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart sought to unravel the mysteries of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

His first stop was WikiPedia, which, like many websites including this one, went dark yesterday to protest the pending legislation. Jon then attempted to explain exactly what the proposed laws do, but found himself completely at a loss trying to find a metaphor that didn’t use of some form of copyrighted material.

SOPA, he explained, gives the government the right to shut down any website that is making use of any previously copyrighted materials. The websites are not taken off the web entirely, but made inaccessible to users, a move that Stewart likens to preventing teenage pregnancy by “filling penises with cement.” They’re still there, Stewart said — just completely inaccessible.
