Lieutenant Colonel Tammy Duckworth said Monday that the residents of Illinois’ 8th congressional district had “buyers remorse” because they didn’t realize Republican Rep. Joe Walsh was going to be a “cheerleader for the tea party.”
“They thought they were voting for someone who would go and represent them, which is what a congressperson is supposed to be doing — not be a megaphone for the tea party, which is what Joe Walsh says is his whole purpose of being in Washington,” Duckworth said during an appearance on MSNBC.
“They’re tired of that, and they’re ready to elect someone who’s actually going to represent their interests.”
Duckworth, who lost both of her legs while serving as a Army helicopter pilot in the Iraq war, is hoping to unseat Walsh in the upcoming 2012 elections. Her Democratic primary opponent, Raja Krishnamoorthi, is hoping to do the same.
“I think in my district there is a lot of buyer’s remorse because they’re seeing that nothing has gotten done and they’re ready for us to get to work again,” Duckworth added. “This absolute continuous obstructionist policy is just not going to take place any more.”
