For his support of the controversial transvaginal ultrasound bill, one Virginia Republican lawmaker received the ultimate punishment from his wife: No sex.

In a truly unorthodox moment, State Delegate David Albo (R-Fairfax Station) recounted his personal misfortune on the House of Delegates’ floor Friday afternoon. Albo playfully requested an apology from Democrat David Englin (D-Alexandria) for their intense debate before describing what happened at his home.

The GOP delegate tried to get his wife into an intimate mood with some red wine, random erotic music, and turning their television to a channel she enjoys watching, the NFL’s Washington Redskins Channel.

But while flipping through channels, Albo’s TV landed on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. Maddow was discussing Albo’s support of the ultrasound bill and followed with video of Englin strongly chastising Republicans for being anti-female.

When the show ended, Albo then shared his wife’s reaction with his fellow colleagues. “And she looks at me, and she goes, ‘I’ve got to go to bed.’”

With everyone laughing in the back, Albo again facetiously asked for Englin’s apology.

“So if the gentleman’s plan was to make sure there was one less Republican in this world, he did,” Albo said. “So I expect an apology from you later, in person, on the House floor, thank you Mr. Speaker.”

Virginia’s House of Delegates approved of a major watered down version of the bill Wednesday evening. Instead of requiring an ultrasound probing a woman’s vagina, the bill now requires only non-intrusive abdominal ultrasounds.
