New Jersey Governor Chris Christe was unapologetic Monday afternoon for calling a Navy SEAL an “idiot” last week, according to The New Jersey Star-Ledger.
At a press conference in Bordentown, New Jersey, Christie was asked about his his encounter with Iraq war vet and law student William Brown, who asked Christie why Rutgers Camden would merge with Rowan University.
“Just because he was a Navy SEAL doesn’t give him the right to be a jerk,” Christie said. “It just doesn’t. I honor his service. I honor his service in Afghanistan. I honor his service in Iraq and to our military. But, it doesn’t give you the right when you come home from that service to be an idiot.”
Christie accused Brown of an ulterior motive in getting into an argument with him.
“This was a guy with a political agenda who came in and wanted to try and make me look bad and not let me answer the question,” he said. “He can cry his crocodile tears all he wants. He came in there to try to accomplish something. He didn’t accomplish it. And so that’s the way it goes.”
