Political blogger Craig Crawford said Wednesday that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich should drop out of the presidential race because he appears to be running out of money and has fallen behind Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.

After failing to win the Mississippi and Alabama primaries on Tuesday, some conservatives called for Gingrich to drop out.

“They gotta be careful at trying to push him too hard, he said on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, noting Gingrich’s long career as a prominent Republican.

“But at the same time, it is time for him to get out and have some dignity left.”

Gingrich’s campaign has been largely funded by billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, but Crawford remarked that Adelson seems to have stopped writing checks.

Despite failing to gain any momentum in the Republican nomination process, Gingrich has vowed to stay in the race.
