On Friday afternoon, a Navy fighter jet crashed into an apartment complex in Virginia Beach, Virginia during a training mission.

Fortunately, there have been no reported deaths due to the crash, which damaged at least 40 apartments.

Navy officials said the F-18 fighter jet experienced a “catastrophic mechanical malfunction” shortly after taking off. The two pilots ejected before the jet crashed into Mayfair Mews Apartments and burst into flames.

All residents in the complex have been accounted for.

Residents in the area were surprised to find the jet pilots in their backyards. The pilots were “conscious, but barely conscious,” one resident said. One pilot apologized to residents for “destroying their house.” They are both being treated for their injuries.
