Journalist and author Chris Mooney explained his new book Tuesday on MSNBC, which examines the psychological reasons behind the clash between conservatives and modern science.

America is extraordinarily divided today over reality and what’s factually true in a left, right way,” he explained.

“I show evidence suggesting that liberals tend to be right. So why is that? if you look beneath the surface of our politics, you find out we differ by psychological traits. Politics is personality. that gives a great win.”

Mooney said that liberals tended to be more comfortable with uncertainty, and therefore “science and liberalism really seem to get along.” Conservatives, on the other had, tend to me more decisive and loyal, and less comfortable with uncertainty.

“Liberals and conservatives just process things differently,” he added.
