
Films by Canadian director David Cronenberg, Briton Ken Loachand Austrian Michael Haneke will compete for gold at the 65thCannes Film Festival, organisers said Thursday.
Cronenberg was tipped for his film “Cosmopolis”, starring Robert Pattinson as a billionaire asset manager, Loach for “The Angel’s Share” about an ex-offender on the mend and Haneke for “Amour” about a woman hit by a stroke.
Also among the 22 films selected from about 1,700 submissions were films by American directors Wes Andersen and Lee Daniels, as wells as by Frenchman Jacques Audiard.
A-listers Nicole Kidman and Brad Pitt are among actors in the race for Cannes gold, as are French actress Marion Cotillard and American Jessica Chastain.
