Stephen Colbert described Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) much-criticized budget as following the guidelines of Christianity in the Republican way.
Colbert was fully behind the congressman, whose budget would keep tax cuts for America’s wealthiest citizens while inducing painful cuts for the country’s middle class and poor. And Colbert defended Ryan from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops criticism of his budget.
“Sadly Catholicism is full of these people who think they have a monopoly on interpreting the social teachings, they’re called bishops.” Colbert said. “So forget all of this talk about Paul Ryan being vice president. I say we make him vice pope.”
