On Wednesday, Newt Gingrich suspended his campaign after a long and grueling primary slog. On Thursday night’s edition of “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert took a look back at the now-suspended campaign and brought us some of the highlights of Gingrich’s very direct and personal style of bare-knuckled political brawling.
At various points in the campaign, Gingrich has accused former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) of being an enemy of religious freedom, a ruthless, job-destroying venture capitalist and an out-and-out liar. Colbert rolled clips of Gingrich blasting away at Romney, then wryly observed that for these two, “healing will be a process.”
