Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (R) signed into law a bill on Friday that would cut Planned Parenthood’s access to taxpayer founds for non-abortion services, according to the Associated Press.
Arizona already does not provide tax dollars for abortion, but supporters of the law want to make sure that money is not given indirectly to Planned Parenthood and similar organizations.
“By signing this measure into law I stand with the majority of Americans who oppose the use of taxpayer funds for abortion,” Brewer said in a statement.
Planned Parenthood Arizona will challenge the Republican led legislature’s law, saying it would interrupt its preventive health care and family planning services for nearly 20,000 women.
A federal appeals judge prevented Texas from defunding Planned Parenthood on Friday.
